Overcharging

Hi all,

Was just wondering if there is a sorcerer build or any other build for that matter where one can overcharge all the relevant magicka stats (i.e. Max mag, mag regen, spell dmg, spell crit)?

Thanks

I have seen it on some of the "Look at what I can do" videos. But, I don't know how they get there. Maybe its the PvP skills, sets and bonuses that get them there.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I doubt you can soft cap spell damage and magicka regen at the same time without sacrificing lots of spell crit. I currently run 5 warlock, 3 aether, and 3 willows. With blue food and PvP buffs I get 2500~ magicka, 136 spell damage (3 legendary enchants), 63.5% spell crit. I run crushing shock with elemental drain (sorc) and don't really run OOM during trial bosses as long as siphon spirit stays up.

Sounds like a really nice build. How do you break your sets up? For example, the warlock set, do you use the jewelry?

Ya 3/3 warlock jewelry would be only way to make it work. I managed to grab them before they disappeared in 1.4, I use warlock for head and chest since it's infused trait, 3 aether armor pieces, and 2 willows armor and willows resto and destro staffs.

    Hmmm.

yea I got a 5pc Warlock atm but no Signets. Staring down at least 200k to get those.

What about the body pieces? Aether is only a couple pieces right so that means your limited to which slots on the body can be used for Warlock?

I also noticed the Aether set can be enchanted with any of the hp/stam/mag....I'm assuming you want the ones with increase mag + divines?

All my armor pieces are magicka enchanted, because all my attribute points are in health (my health's at 2600 with food and pvp buffs, which keeps me survivable in trials and pvp). I'd focus on getting Warlock set on Head/Chest/Pants since that's where you want infused traits anway. I currently have aether on belt/gloves/boots because of the divines traits.

If you can't get warlock rings I'd suggest dropping willows path and picking up the PvP rings and Destro staff that come with a 10% spell crit set bonus. Warlock on head/chest/pants/neck/ and 1 other, and then 3 aether pieces filling in. You'll lose the magicka willow's gives for a 2piece bonus but pick up an extra 6% crit over my build.

Thanks @jluceyub17_ESO that's some real great info. Are you speaking of the "Wrath of Imperium" set?

In regards to the overcharging, I can overcharge max mag and mag regen but have a tough time getting near the softcaps for spell dmg/crit and weapon dmg crit.

Could you school me on what your build was leading up to your first trials or maybe your first impressions on what the build should be going into them?

Aether is Bind on pickup correct? Which would mean it can't be acquired unless your in a trial...

EDIT: I've been using the staples for skills.

Inner light, Critical Purge, Impulse, Frag, endless fury.....is there a specific set of skills you use to really boost spell dmg/spell crit?

Edit: Just noticed you said you run crushing shock, elemental drain...oops

I believe sustained dmg is more important than maxing spell power with a sorcerer.

The setup I'm running at the moment:
    - 5 * Seducer v14, using that set on the largest pieces: chest, legs, hat, shoes and both destro/resto staves
    - 3 * Wise Mage v12, using that set on the smallest pieces : belt, gloves, shoulders, not to lose too much stats from using v12 instead of v14). I got a v14 gold sash from the weekly, so I'm using it instead of my old v12 gold.
    - 3 * Healer's Habit Jewelry (rings v13 and neck v14). The 2 and 3 items set bonuses are decent (extra magicka and magicka restoration) and are the highest level set items I could find for jewelry.
All legendary except the jewelry. All magicka cost reduction on jewelry.

You could get more crit with the imperium set but only I prefer my setup, since it allows the use of a resto staff on the 2nd bar, doesn't have "healthy" jewelry and gives better stats overall.

    Post 1.5 setup:
    - 2 * the new Undaunted special 2 pieces sets on head and shoulders
    - 4 * Healer's Habit (3 jewelry + Boots with the divines trait)
    - 5 * Twice Born Star, all pieces with divines
    Wololo.

Thanks for the insights! Where does this set drop exactly? Another trials set?

@Gyudan - Like I said above I rarely run into magicka pool problems with magicka returns from elemental drain, siphon spirit and warlock set bonus. If someone is having resource pool problems I'd agree that sacrificing a spell damage enchant is probably the best way to go since spell damage only effects Mage's Fury and Crystal Frag (which I actually don't use to make room for Elemental Drain) in the standard Sorc/Crushing Shock Trial build. The only difference between our gear setups is you take Seducer's 8% Cost Reduction and Healer's Habit Magicka Regen instead of my build's Warlock's Magicka Flood and 4% Crit from Willows. I think Wrath of Imperium might improve your DPS since Spell Crit is so huge in DPS and you already have a lot of regen/cost reduction. You can adjust for the healthy Jewelry enchants by moving some attribute points out of health and into magicka.

Edit: I also chug spell power pots which helps with magicka, but I'd do that anyway for the better crit chance.

@Cuyler - When I started trials was running the same build as above except with 3piece Twilights Embrace instead of Wise Mage (aka Aether). Spell Critical and Magicka are the two stats you want to focus on first for single target dps, but you do want to make sure you have at least 2300 health because there's a lot of damage flying around in trials.
    - Critical Surge should softcap your weapon damage so there's no need to go after weapon damage set bonuses.
    - Spell damage is going to amp up your damage on Crystal Frag (only cast when the instant cast procs) and Mage's Fury (only when mob health below 20%).
    - The vast majority of your DPS will come from animation canceling light attacks with crushing shock while keeping critical surge and elemental drain up.
    - My current Destro Bar is : Elemental Ring (instead of Pulsar because of the DoT), Crushing shock, elemental drain (increases your groups elemental damage to the target and returns magicka to you), critical surge (boosts light attack, E. Ring, and Crushing shock damage), Inner light (dat spell crit), with Flawless Dawnbreaker (don't cast it, just keep it on the bar for the passive weapon damage boost).

This brings up some more questions...

Should I bother using Crystal Frag and/or Mages Fury? Maybe on the second bar?

Which Element are you using? Fire/Ice/Shock?

EDIT: My attributes are 0-49-0 so with the blue food im right around 2.3-2.4k hp.

@Cuyler - I keep Mage's Fury on my second bar which I switch to for execute stages. I run Fire because I'm Dunmer and I get a big racial bonus. If you use the Wrath of Imperium set use the Ice staff because it's the only one with precise trait on it. Otherwise it doesn't really matter, you won't be heavy attacking so the Tri-Focus passives don't come into play.
    - My second bar is Resto Staff: Mage's Fury, Healing Springs (ultimate charging), Spell Symmetry (quick magic regen between fights, use very sparingly during combat), Inner light, with Suppression Field or Greater Atronach depending on the boss. The final slot is for boss specific skills, Expert/Evil Hunter (Fighter's Guild) for the first two bosses in AA and first boss in HRC, Annulment (3rd AA boss), or Scalding Rune otherwise

@Gyudan, What's the strategy behind the "Twice born star" set you plan to use? Seems like it's a change from light to heavy armor for you and also a move to more health/stam...planning to make up for it with mundus stones maybe?

Twice-Born Star is the upcoming craftable 9-traits set with update 5.
I'll still use light armor for dps of course, as many pieces with divines as possible (including the large ones that I used to prefer with infused) and 2 mundus stones: thief and shadow.
This set can't be tested on the PTS right now since it's not possible to reach 9 traits research in the limited amount of time spent there. This is a theoretical build, but it should give more DPS though.
    Wololo.
