Horse attributes and their visual effects

Hello there guys,

I've read so much about this topic and am not even sure what is true and what's wrong. Can we please once and forever shed some light into this?

Which attributes give you which visual effect? Up to now I'm pretty sure that capacity gives you the little bags, and speed gives you the leather bands. Now someone ingame told me that stamina gives you the head armor, which is weird, because I'm damn sure I saw someone horse with bags, leather bands, and head armor. Which can't be right, because as far as I know, you need 20 points in an attributes to gain their visual effect.

Now, someone that actually knows it, and I mean really actually knows it, please tell us. What is what? How exactly does it work?

    You can "feed" your horse up to 49 times. It takes 20 feedings in one attribute to level it.

    A little outdated but still close, I'm sure: http://tamrieljournal.com/eso-mounts-overview/

    You have it right.
    Capacity = Bags
    Speed = Leather bands
    Stamina = Head armor

    That person bought a horse that was more expensive and already had better base stats. The cheap horses can only get 2 of the 3. The expensive horses can get all three visual effects.

    You have to feed it 20 times of "x" and then it shows up. The starting amount doesn't matter.

    So for example, you can feed it 20 oats (bag) and 20 hay (armor/stam) and have both visuals of armor and side bags.

    Yeah after 20 feed it shows up, no matter the starting number. If it's 15 so it'll appear at 35. And if it's 25 (like rapid horse) it'll appear at 45.

    I just started playing (Level 14 and loving it so far) I'm saving up for the light horse right now, the brown one with the black tail/mouth/legs. Is there a "better stats" version of that horse? Because I really want to have all three visuals, and preferably the colors of the light horse.

    How do you get all three visuals when it takes 20 feedings per visual and you have a total of 49 feedings possible?

    I think what he meant is, once you have 20 Bags, you get the Saddle bags, some horses start with 10. So, with 50 feedings you can get all three.

    One thing to note, your final feeding will give you 1 extra point in all three categories. So, what I did on my first two horses was upgrade the bag space to 20, because that was all I wanted, and then the rest to Speed. Well, on the final feedings, my bag space was 21. Now I have character bag space of 131 (character bags maxed). This extra one kind of bugs me, probably does not bug others, but it does me. So, my third characters horse I stopped the bag space upgrade at 19. Then the final feeding put one extra bag on the horse, and I had 20 bags, so that character has 130 spaces.

    Note, I got the Saddle Bags with the final feeding, so you don't miss out.

    And, I am not sure the Stamina upgrade is all that worth it, most of the time, your horse is going to be depleted of Stamina Reserves, so your going to get knocked off. Sure, you can do the normal run speed, but the reason to get on a horse, for me anyway, is to gallop, so my horse stamina is always depeleted after a bit.

    Although, last night I was able to sprint past a mob that took a shot at me and I stayed on, but the horse just started galloping. That was the first time it ever worked for me.

    Um no. I can't speak about the horse you buy for cash, or the imperial horse. But I recently bought the Draft horse, the one which starts with ten bags, I only got the saddle bags after I fed it twenty lots of oats.

    Which means you can only get two of the effects.

    But that's definitely not the case.

    Your horse starts with a base speed, and you still need to feed it apples 20 times before it gets the straps.

    OK. I have only bought the 1G Imperial Horse. I would not pay for one of the in game horses. I have only gotten two of the visual upgrades, but I put nothing into stamina either.

    I bought a new horse for my main a while ago (the Light Horse, 25% speed), then I thought I'll feed it for half speed, half bags since it's fast enough for me already and I still need more bag slots^^
    But I wonder how this will turn out when it's at level 50? Leader bands AND bags? Does anyone know this?

    Edit: sorry, I've read it too late, apparently there WILL be both, awesome^^

    Yeah you can have only 2 appearance changes by feeding no matter the starting stats. And you have a third one when the horse reach lvl 50, cloth under the saddle.

    Yep, you get both of them. The combo looks quite nice too.

    I don't know what you get for 20 Stamina, is it a Bridle or Armor?

    That's pretty cool :) All my other horses were a full bag slots horse, so I never knew^^ I never fed for stamina, though, since I always jump off the horse when I smell upcoming combat ;)

    To further complicate things, you can get two different visual effects from the same type of food. My speed horse ate apples all the way to 50, he got the straps on his back as his first upgrade then when I maxed him out he got a horse blanket that goes under the saddle.

    Not sure if you get the same blanket at 50 for the other two food types, my Stamina horse just now got leveled enough to get the head armor. I hope they have armor for the body too at 50, but I doubt it since I have never seen anyone with a fully armored horse.

    The saddle blanket is just for getting the horse up to 50. There's only one visual effect per trait.

    It's surprising how many people don't know how the horse visuals work. There's an old thread where we discovered this stuff:
    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/82775/horse-armor-first-stage/p1

    To save you time wading through the speculation, this is how it works.
    Feed 20 applies = straps
    Feed 20 hay = head armor
    Feed 20 oats = bags

    Level your horse to 50 in any way and you gat a blanket under the saddle. The blanket is in the color of your faction, unless it's an Imperial horse, in which case the blanket will be red and gold regardless of faction.

    There is a limit of 49 possible feedings, so reardless of starting stats you can only ever get at most 2 of the visual upgrades plus the blanket. Also note that on your last feeding you get a bonus stat across the board. So 49 feedings actually results in 52 total stat increases. Hope that helps.
