Dual Wield VS Two-Handed [Again]

rsiloliveiraub17_ESO
Sorry if I'm bringing back this discussion, but I could not find anything new about it. At least not with the information I want.

So here is the thing. I want to start a character, DPS, melee, doesn't matter the class because it won't be class based.

My initial intention was to make 1st bar DW Single Target and 2nd bar Two Handed AoE. Sounds good. But...after looking at the skills, active and passives, Im wondering if I use Two Handed on both hands.

So lets make a simulation here:

Dual Wield

Main hit will be Flurry, with Twin Slashes here and there for the bleed effect. Maybe Whirlwind for the AoE and Hidden Blade for a ranged attack.

Dual Daggers for + crit chance + passives, nice single target damage.

Attack speed is pretty good.

Two Handed

Main attack will be basic light and heavy attacks or Reverse Slash, and definetly Executioner at the end (makes a big difference on the DPS meter). Momentum for more weapon damage, straight 20% on 1.5, Cleave for AoE (same as Whirlwind), Uppercut and Critical Charge are also useful and can be used.

As for the passives, Heavy Weapons is kinda similar to Twin Blade and Blunt. Arcane Fighter and Battle Rush are not that awesome, just like Ruffian and Slaughter.

Attack speed is really slow (compared to DW daggers)

After all that, what should I use for single target? I want to use DW, because it seems fun and looks cool, but the overall usefulness of the skills on Two Handed seem better than the DW.

What do you guys think?

Arcane Fighter will be removed. I use mainly 2H for damage and 1H&S for tanking. 2H and DW are pretty similar as finisher (18% vs 20% bonus). And now a question: why 2H? Momentum buff apply only when 2H in your hands, so you don't get big passive buff. Use it as AoE - not a good idea. Only 1 AoE skill with not so big damage. Cleave is nice for generating Ult, but it will be nerfed in 1.5.
    Make sweetrolls, not nerfs!

Thats why 2H is an option.

I will be using class skills also, combined with the weapon skills. My AoE wont be just spam cleave.

2H already blows dual wield out of the water pretty much anywhere, and will get further buffed in 1.5.

If you are a stamina build, using class skills for damage is a very bad idea. In 1.5, the best layout for stamina dps is 2h primary with bow secondary for it's dots. Dual wield doesn't really have a niche right now.

If this is for PVE then it really don't matter. I just finished the storylines to 'Cadwells junk' and was only level 44. My dual wielder did it at lvl 47 (but second time around is even easier than first).

If this is for delves and dungeon groups ect, to be honest id have to say don't commit to anything now. Release 5 is just around the corner and it throws everything in the air once again.

Take the time to test on PTS (if you have a NA server toon to copy...)
Being First is not the prize, it just mean's everyone can stab you in the back.

Some people think in terms of (1) one bar for combat and one for healing (Templars especially); (2) one bar for single target and one for AoE; or (3) one bar for melee combat and one for ranged.

I tend to go with (1) for Templars and (3) for all other classes. Primary reason? In spite of the BS from ZOS, you can't switch skill bars quickly enough when there is any action in the game; that is, player inputs -- whether mouse or keyboard -- can be unreliable when you need them the most.

I currently have six characters that I'm leveling simultaneously; it's my style of play. I don't enjoy endgame activities; I enjoy alts; different classes and different skill mixes. I don't anticipate playing other alliances' zones past level 50 will be very enjoyable, so I'm playing those zones on alts.

I just came back to the game recently; the first thing I did was to delete all of my original characters from early start, other than my main (Templar). I then created five new characters using a different philosophy than I'd used originally. Why? Because "Play as you want" obviously is a bogus marketing ploy. You need to select skill lines that are much less "what you want" and much more "what you need"...

I am not a min-maxer by any stretch of that caracterization of playing styles, but with my original characters I found that (2) doesn't work well. This time around, I'm using my ultimate skill as my AoE and otherwise focusing on single-target skills.

I currently use (1) Single Target and (2) AoE/Buffs on my DK. And it works pretty well.

But that is not really my concern. Im interest in DW vs Two Handed DPS.

But it seems Two Handed is better from most opinions.

I used 2 handed from lvl 1 to 50 and have been using dual wield from V2 to V14, to be honest I probably didn't use 2 handed to the best of its ability. I like using the following on my dual wield bar: volcanic rune, rapid strikes, steel tornado, cinder storm and green dragon blood. Sometimes I switch out cinder storm for flying blade or elude.
