Requesting Character Load for a week

I know this is my third post about this, but it is kind of stupid when ZOS says they will contact me ASAP and I get nothing. From what other players have posted, here is what I have tried to fix it:
  1. Restart computer
  2. Use my other 2 characters
  3. Turn off antivirus
  4. Something about a VPN which I wouldn't even know where to begin for setting one up, so that obviously isn't the problem
  5. Create a new character-created fine, but wouldn't load in
  6. Change language in launcher and leave last guild I joined when I get in
  • Changed to German and finally logged in without problems. Skeptically left last guild joined and switched back to English, which didn't work.
  • Changed language to French to try again and logged in right away, but froze in a different loading screen shortly after
  • I was only able to sign in once using each language

If there are any more suggestions on what I could try I would love to hear them, but I don't think this is on my end as every other program and game on my computer works perfectly.

I looked up "requesting character load" in the forum search and there are over 100 pages of posts about it. Most of them are from March and April though, so did all of those people just quit the game or was there some patch that fixed it?

Have you turned off the Windows Firewall?

If you have a hardware firewall or router, have you tried opening the ports for this game with Port Triggering (sometimes called Port Forwarding, depends on the router, mine has both and I use Triggering)

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Let me first say that I am not a computer expert nor have I experienced the problem you are having so my suggestion should be read with that in front of your mind.

If @Nestor advice doesn't work maybe you should try and uninstall then re-install the game, just my 1/16 cent worth.

Are you on the PTS by any chance? If so, switch to the live server or have Customer Service move your character from Cyrodiil to a PVE zone.

What I did without any problems so far is to start eso.exe as administrator from the game folder and skip the launcher for now.

I just noticed something really weird...I don't have a repair in the launcher. I know I've repaired before, but it doesn't show up anymore.

The settings button has two tabs: options and about

My options show in this order:
    Megaserver
    Language
    Start on Boot up
    Minimize to system tray
    Show public Test Environment
    Maximum download

    About just has game consultant.

While this sounds odd, after the last major patch my partner had similar issues and on occassion was getting error numbers thrown up. He would occasionally get through log in and then hang on character load after selecting his character. After a lot of reading we found the following solution, it may or may not work for you:

Log into your account on the elderscrolls.com website
Agree to any new Terms and Conditions
Log out of the elderscrolls.com website
Lauch ESO Laucher or restart it if already open
    Log into the game

No idea how this was connected to him being able to load his characters but it worked anyway.

I've had two similar issues to this

The first being that I couldn't get past char load if shadow settings were set to anything but high - makes no sense to me, but for some reason it happened, Geforce experience had it set at high and I'd tried changing to get a bit of an fps increase.

The second being that it also wouldn't load past char select when it was set to run in D3D9 in usersettings.INI - changing to D3D11 solved this. You may even be set to opengl as others have experienced in this forum

Maybe you can give either of these a shot, for the directx part obviously change from whatever to the alternative. Give ~5mins of time on the load screen, took a while to zone in after changing settings for me

Next, have you updated any drivers just prior to having these issues? If so, worth trying a rollback

Failing these can you post some system specs - Desktop/Laptop, OS, Ram, CPU/Motherboard, PSU, GPU, what resolution your trying to play in, and driver versions where appropriate.

Take my kisses @Ra1ne. I changed all of my graphics settings to high and loaded right in.

It just occured to me... Maybe just don't optimize with Geforce Experience stuff. I always found it a bit dubious that the tool wants to optimise games... I know it is harmless in the general sense. But really...

    Shadowplay is cool though :)
