This "demonstration" video shows the different user experience when questing using a "typical" MMO style of skipping dialog and simply running from point-to-point versus the "Elder Scrolls Way" of engrossing yourself in story and lore for the same quest. This is not necessarily a commentary on which style is "better" as that is a matter of personal preference. Having said that, I will say that ESO is not a rush to end game type of MMO. You should really enjoy the journey.

For this experiment we use the quest available at Leki's Blade in the Alik'r desert. I chose this quest because I knew it to be a heavy story quest that would show a sharp contrast in the user experience using two different play styles. We run through the quest using two identical characters created on PTS version 1.5.1.

The first method takes 9:13 and skips all dialog and we simply run from point-to-point as fast as possible to complete our objective. I had no idea what I had just done or why.

In the second method, we fully talk to every NPC in the area and explore most of what the town has to offer. We also find books in the town which further flesh out the history and story of the area (you will need to pause the video to fully read these books). We complete this second round in a blistering 44:13. I personally left the area fully understanding what had occurred and invested in what had just happened.

Hopefully others will find this video enlightening in some manner.

As an aside, I really cannot fight properly using a PTS character template. I really love my main on the Live server even more now.

That is a substantial difference in times. I definitely prefer taking my time. Very interesting experiment!

I always take my time questing. When my friends and I began playing ESO, I was one of the few who took time and invested myself in each quest. My friends went the traditional MMO way and skipped all dialogue. They eventually quit after a few months, but I'm still around enjoying the questing.
