Hello players of ESO

So I have been an elder scrolls fan since I first played oblivion, I played oblivion for a very long time as well as skyrim. So having played said games before I know how this series works and that this game is for more or less the long term player rather than the short term player looking to rush to the end.

So when ESO came out I heard nothing but negative and horrible things about it so i had decided to hold off and wait it out. As of a week ago I decided to take the plunge and purchase the game and some gametime to get going. I however did not buy the imperial edition so I am not sure if that will hinder my gameplay experience or not. So I am currently leveling a DK on the DC alliance and just hit level 20. I do work alot so I dont get to spend as much time as I would like in game.

So I guess my concern here is do I continue to play or am I just wasting my time and money. The reason I ask is either I am way slow at leveling or leveling over all just takes awhile, but then I was looking into getting started with the crafting process until I heard that researching traits is a very long and daunting process, we are talking months and what good as a crafter are you if you dont make gear with traits? So I mean is this game at all worth the time and effort that it obviously requires?

I come from wow playing almost 10 years and as we all know this game is very different and really has nothing to compare. But I mean these updates and patches they seem to be pushing out is it making the game any better than it was before, is it worth the money every month to keep playing? Am I going to hate the game without the Imperial edition? Like what are your thoughts and suggestions for a brand new player??

I thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully I get some feedback on what you guys think!!!

The only real advantage from getting the imperial edition is you can get a horse right away for 1 gold.
Researching all of the traits will take a few months but it's easy to learn enough traits to make some good gear sets in only a few days, just do a bit of research on what type of build you are aiming for and what set will benefit you the most.

How long you play for is a matter of opinion, currently there is not a lot of 'end game' content but if you only play a few hours a day there should be enough to keep you busy for a while, plus there are new features and content added on a fairly regular basis.
I'd say keep playing with a month by month sub, if you get bored just stop playing.

I think the leveling in this game when playing 1-50 is rather balanced. The more quests you do, the faster you level. But it also depends on how much you are playing.

In regards to crafting leveling, that is based on how much you deconstruct stuff. Learning traits can be a pain in the butt but should take about 2 months +/- to learn the 8 traits on each you are looking for. This is where making friends in the game help a lot as you can trade items with traits that you need. Mind you, I do feel that taking 23days or more to learn a trait is crazy... it should take no more than a week for ANY trait. But, I guess that is the way game developers wanted it.

The question should be; Are YOU having fun playing this game? If not, then it's not the game for you.
Far too many characters to list any more.

Really appreciate the feedback and responses yes I love the game itself and I do enjoy my time on here, just wanted some feedback from players whom have been around for awhile, so again thank you and see you in game!

I also have been taking advantage of the PTS being up to play around with high lvl toons and trying diff classes/builds and messing with the crafting to really determine what I want to play on live. That way I dont waste my time on live leveling something that I am going to end up not playing in the end =)

I've been here since pre-release and I'm having a good time. One suggestion I would make (if you're not doing it already) is use add-ons. Add-ons can really improve the quality of life and speed at which you move through areas. For example, I have add-ons that show me where all the lore books are, skyshards, treasure maps, as well as a small little mini map (so I don't have to keep switching to map view) that displays all the info my main map would. Check out my sig if interested.

Getting back though to ESO in general, my highest level character, after 5 months of being a subscriber, is lvl 44. My total play time is around 6 days. Of course I am one of those, "gotta do everything" kind of players ... I know people who claimed to hit lvl 50 in a matters of days or less.

The question is, "what do YOU want out of ESO"? Personally, end-game stuff doesn't look super exciting as it stands now... However, after the Justice System and Champion System are in place, I think that will change.

I would suggest taking your time with the game, enjoy PvE, enjoy PvP, play with the PTS, enjoy the game on YOUR terms. Then decide for yourself if you want to stay. You can't get a refund for the game you already bought or sub time your purchased anyhow.

If you do the quests for the zones, do the dolmens and the world bosses, you will level up just fine. Running around attacking mobs, you will never get anywhere unless you hit some of the grind spots on the map.

As for researching traits, the reason you do that is more to make Crafted Sets than to have Traited armor and weapons (although the traits are good too). However, the good news is some of the best Crafted Sets only require 2 to 4 traits to be researched. You can do that in a little over a week to two weeks (depending on what Research Passives you have. There are VR14 folks running around with Ashen Grip, and that is a 2 Trait Set, Seducer, one of the best sets for a Mage is only 3 Traits to learn.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I also don't get much time since the little one.

Probably only an hour or two a day if I'm lucky and I still think this game is worth the little amount of time and large amounts of money spent on it.

Especially if you're an elder scrolls fan.

Don't waste your time. see if you can get a refund asap.

lvls 1-50 are the best. but thats all there is. This game is so plagued with bugs, desyncs, crashes, lag, broken skills and wtf moments that I question if its being run by a gaggle of silver back mountain chimps.

fan bois will tell you how they don't have any of these problems and it must be on your side but thats simply not true. Wanna see? just comb back in these forums and see the multiple issues that have not been fixed since launch and only get worse patch after patch.

my advice......run. get your money back and run.

*and yes you can get a refund if ask for it before you log in to much game time.*

I think this game has a really awesome leveling system. My first character took about 3 months, maybe a bit more to get to VR14. My second character took about a week. If you want to grind you can. There are guides online that will tell you the best places. But if you want a more TES experience it can easily take months.

I liked the Imperial edition because it allows you to be any race in any alliance. The horse is cool in the beginning, but once you get some gold you'll definitely want to invest in a better one, especially if you want to pvp.

Overall the game is amazing. It's different, but a lot of the time it really feels like a TES game. The landscapes are beautiful, the quests are intriguing (the first time through at least), and it's not hard to find a challenge.

It does have it's problems, but the good outweighs the bad. So far. For now. I still have hope. Apprehensive hope.
