What is your favorite thing about Cyrodiil?

I'm curious why everyone else, day after day, reenters Cyrodiil.

My reasons have been ever changing. Initially, it was to gank people while they were questing at the questing hubs in Cyrodiil. I leveled to vr10 primarily in Cyrodiil questing. (This died since it's infinitely faster to level outside of Cyrodiil)

Then I began ganking players while they were running to keeps and cutting off reinforcements. (This ended because players became AP rich and forward camps are abundant)

I then moved to dueling and other small skirmishes. (This began to bore me as it was always the same players, and the community began to take a "sour" turn)

I then decided to start recruiting for my guild No Mercy, and tried to make an impact in the alliance war. (This also became fruitless, because either we stomped out the competition, like on Auriel's bow 2.0 or chillrend despite being the underdog, or we're somewhat insignificant like wabbajack/Thornblade because of massive overnight population rendering our 8 hours of primetime points/fighting pointless to the alliance war scoreboard)

I then pvp'd for the sole thrill of beating impossible odds, challenging myself to beat massive zergs (which was primarily with well placed oils).

When I heard of the oil changes, I searched to wipe zergs with my group without the use of oils, to develop newer strategies. (But after a 5v30, you want a 5v40, then 5v50, and you begin a never ending spiral of thrill seeking that is insatiable but at the same time unconquerable)

I have to be honest though, the thrill of Cyrodiil has died down. It's like I've been desensitized. If I don't kill five people 1v10, I feel as though I've failed.

I'm pretty much playing in Cyrodiil now for my family No Mercy.

Sometimes you pvp for the content, other times you pvp for your friends and family. I'm scared this game has reached the point in time where my only reason is to continue to play, is for my family.

What is your reason for pvping in Cyrodiil? What do you think your future reasons will be? Do you still get excited pvping?

    Guildies. If it wasn't for the great group of people I have met that still play then I would probably be over this game.

    Playing through late beta I found the game interesting as any new game tends to be, but the moment I entered cyrodil I was ready to click that pre-order button. Freaking huge map, castles and towers that could be ripped down and built up again, seige that really went boom (everyone at the time had out firepot trebuchets) and what at the time felt like a really fluid and interactive combat system. My mind could barely contain itself with how epic it felt during my first seige. Although its never as exciting later on I still get a kick out of a well played group manuever, or out smarting a ganker. It feels like theres alot of performance pressure now for people to pull amazing feats and be able to 1vX to be considered any good, which isnt true

    For me the biggest morale killer is just the technical issues with the game. Poopy fps in cyrodil that continues to detereorate despite investing in a high end machine before the game launched, lag and crashes whenever groups collide even on campaigns other then thornblade, and that unresponsiveness that comes and goes some days where you cant cast, use doors or swap weapons without spamming the keyboard in the hope something registers soon. It is definitely a 'unique pvp experience' as promised I suppose... :neutral_face:

    The very opposite in fact. I know it hurts my AP gain, but I am usually ungrouped. I don't even have a guild for PvP. I pretty much just determine were my alliance needs me, and I show up to help in any way I can.

    While I wouldn't call myself elite, I'm a bit better than the average player, mostly due to the fact that I have about 8 months more experience playing the game. So I can get away with playing a sub optimal build.

    Why is defending fun? Because ironically, I'm a team player, and defending keeps or resources helps my side to win. Also, I've gotten really good with siege weapons despite the camera limitations. Most importantly, defending means the fights come to you.

    Trying different builds, gear combos, etc.

    Leveling. Just hit VR12 the other night. Takes forever in Cyrodil, which is both good and bad. (Almost to PvP rank 15, and even grinded some levels in Crag.)

    I also enjoy it for the same reason I enjoy TDM in shooters. It's just fun to beat the other team. Not even on a campaign level. Just one keep siege at a time.

    Hova your post reads like burn out and there is always burn out. I change things up to avoid it or end up taking a break/focusing on something else.

    I primarily play pvp because it is more dynamic.

    I've continued to play games based solely on the people I played with, well past my interest in the game faded. And it didn't really bother me all that much. The relationships you make with other people in-game can be very strong and can trump the gameplay itself. Quite a few of these relationships have lasted well past and beyond the games as well.

    As for my motivation here, well most of the people I came to the game with slowly departed over the first four months. I ran mostly solo the following two months, then decided to join a guild and they have reinvigorated my interest in the game. Their weekly pvp night is a blast and out of that we have been slowly making small groups to run around the map with a couple other nights of the week.

    It's pretty common for people's interest in pvp to wax and wane. Changes in mechanics and classes usually get me interested again. Changes to the landscape (like when the IC launches) will often get me interested in exploring that area and seeing what kind of fights can happen there. As you mentioned, finding new challenges always helps (I moved my home to Haderus--as a DC player--last week, fortunately at at time some other folks started showing up there). Other times, taking a few days or a week off will get me interested again.

    I go into Cyroddiil for a change of pace. Instead of enemies who stand politely while you prepare to unleash your latest round of fury on them, you have enemies who will chase you down, wait in ambush, and change their tactics on you. Instead of enemies who will let you fight the same fight over and over to hone your skills, you have enemies who almost never fight the same fight in the same place.

    Lately, I PvE during the day, and PvP at night.

    To be honest, I enjoy the company of the group I play with, players that I met playing this game. We've created our own little guild and we port around Cyrodiil in small guerrilla warfare type groups (usually between 2-8 players) causing havoc and forcing our enemy to divert attention away from the main battle.

    I enjoy it and the guildies we've recruited into the guild are all quality people who we are slowly turning into great PvP'ers.

    Focusing on this has alleviated SOME of the rage I feel at ZOS for their subpar product and TERRIBLE support for the PvP community.

    My favorite thing is when skills actually work, when there is no batpulse spam, when there is no lag, when you can weapon swap, when there are no zergballs, when I don't crash, and of course playing with my guildies that have been here for 7 months now.

    Pity most of them already quit though. :(

    Fishing in Cyro is the best endgame content, bar none.

    Seriously though, I have always loved PvP because it's the most challenging part of the game. Skills are constantly changing and so is my build. I love the combat mechanics in this game (when they work properly).

    Ganking with one or two other people will always be my favorite, but playing with the awesome people I've met through this game is what keeps me coming back day after day.

    Sounds like you've just gotten a bit burned out. Cyrodil is the most fun I've had in a video game in probably a decade. Like one poster said above: when I first stepped into cyrodil, ran around, and saw the sights, I was hooked. I don't get to play as much as many of you, so I'm still experimenting with builds and learning new strategies.

    Hope you stick around -- your NM team is excellent. Love following y'all around and sharing in your exploits. (And killing the reds and yellows that inevitably chase you)

    Im sure a lot of people wont agree..and I think Cyrodiil is awesome. I'm hoping Imperial City breathes new life into PvP as we know it.

    Between you,me and everyone else, I loved PvP in RIFT. I loved the cities and taking flags and fighting for 30-45 mins to hold objectives and gather shards..I love capture the flag too with smaller team play.

    Hova sounds like you're not having fun anymore. Anyone who's ever played a game competitively runs into this wall where it starts feeling more like work and less like play. It sounds that you keep "working" for your "family."

    Roll a new class and master it, if that is what drew you in in the first place, because it sounds like whatever spark you once had for the game is dying out.

    yea Ive hit plateaus before,either where my rotations got stale or predictable or I just got tired..Ive been trying new armor sets and new weapons..and that has definitely added fumes to my gas tank.

    because despite all the crap in it, there are times where it can be extremely fun, and it makes it worth dealing with all the lag and block and spam and all that lovely stuff.

    however, those fun times will get old eventually.
