Late Game gets too difficult

First let me say I am posting this from a position of love. Elder Scrolls has bee n a part of my life since I bought daggerfall when it first came out (it was taken away for years and I got grounded for two weeks when I accidentally took my characters armor off infront of my mommy) This is not a hatefilled rant. Just a topic I'd like to discuss.

So I was wondering if anyone has mentioned on here how ill prepared the first 1-45 levels prepare you for what's beyond. I'm struggling with trying to complete the quests that give skill points and not being 6-7 levels ahead of everything. The game is extremely gated, you go where the game makes u go. All zones are setup like a path you follow in specific order. So to get the quests that give skill points I usually end up doing all of them trying to find them. My characters are all way to high level for the stuff around them but I feel I will screw up my quest progression and miss out on vital skill points if I skip ahead

whats advice do you experienced players have for people that want to get a feel for how much harder the game is past level 45-50 ? I dont want to be completely unable to group in dungeons cause I sucks big time

Only the faction storyline quest gives skillpoints. These quests are sequenced. So once you start one, it basically leads you to another quest.

Questing has never compared to the difficulty of doing the group dungeons. I have always been a few levels ahead of the quests that I'm currently doing. Right now, I am VR4 in the VR2 zone. This is only because I do every available quest. I have never gone around grinding for levels in a group. The group searching tool allows you to do the dungeons at the correct level, no matter where you are in questing. Once you get to VR though, the level doesn't matter that much. All VR levels get you is better gear and more skill points (assuming you quest, not grind), which most people don't need more of because their main focus is already maxed out.

I always try to stay a lvl or 2 ahead of the quest because I mainly like to solo but if I need help I just ask in chat and start a group to finish the quest I am on. In my opinion ESO wants you to interact with other players in groups and stuff so I think that's why some of these quests are difficult to beat. I have heard the main quest gets very difficult and you cannot group for them so maybe they should address those.

Try to keep your gear up to date, it helps. You also need to find a set of skills that works well together depending on your class and type of build. Each campaign got quest easier to complete depending on the type of build you have it's normal.

I meant to say I struggle with staying below the level of my quests. Everything is super easy but when I get higher level stuff gets hard cause Ive never had any quests higher then my level. I just wish I could skip some quest without missing.

I was thinking of doing dungeons at the lowest levels I can stand and learning that way.

Also how can you tell which quests are vital to getting your skill points and which are just gold and exp.

    thx for the replies.

The area main quests are the ones that usually have skill point given, they are usually the ones that point you on to the next area, rather than the 'local' ones that you find between them.

Someone did put together a list of all the quests with skill points so google may help :)

Game gets much easier if you focus your equipment on max'ing out spell damage and/or weapon damage...try that.

Game got a lot easier when i discovered the volcanic rune morph from the mages guild skill line and the destructive clench morph from the flame staff.
If timed well i can solo almost every world boss, sometimes even two world bosses at the same time, doesn't matter if they are higher level or not. This is because they are on their backsides and stunned for 4 seconds a lot of the time. So make sure you look into those.

Yeah first thing I'd suggest is getting a gear set or two with bonuses that work for you. I usually shoot for a 5 piece set and a 3 or 4 piece setup.

Next thing is you need to be more aware of what the bad guys are doing. Notice if they're trying to do moves that require blocking or dodging. Higher level mobs use these type of skills much more often than their lower-level counterparts.

Lastly know who you're fighting. If there's a healer kill that ASAP.

    It's to easy.

My first play through to vet 12 was ridiculous. My alts (after nerf to all vet content) steamrolled it. Like others have said.. Prioritize your gear/attributes/enchants.

TIP: Hyrbrid builds dont work. You are either stamina, or magicka.

    is this advice? lol

Make sure you have done every World Boss, Dolmen, Delve, and Group dungeon. Also each public group dungeon has a Group Challenge that yields a skill point, so go back and get those skill points you are missing - you'll get xp also of course.

As far as later in the game, my advice is STAT FOOD. Everyone told me how important it was but I never really used it until my second Veteran character and I have to say it makes a big difference.

The solo quests do not prepare you for any of the group content or pvp. They never did and they never will.Doing pvp and group content is the only thing that prepares you for that. The solo pve is there to give you a story.

    1. stick to one type of resource either mag/stam/health as hybrid builds don't work as well come endgame.

    2. Make sure you gear is up to date. doesn't have to be purple or yellow but make sure its your lvl. Also get into a set or two that jive with your chosen resource.

    3. Use a set of skills that combine a cc with AoE. Have a single target dps skill for backup. Skills can make a big difference so look for ones that increase spell damage/crit (i.e. inner light from mages guild) or weapon damage/crit as well. Anything with reduced damage taken or a heal is good to.

    4. Learn when to use block, break cc, and roll dodge.

    5. Learn how to weave light attacks or "animation cancel". If you don't like it then at least learn when to use a complete heavy attack to return your chosen resource.

    6. Get some stat enhancing food that jives with health and whatever your chosen resource is.

    7. Pickup some repair kits for when your armor breaks in a large dungeon where porting isn't an option without losing your place.

    8. Have soul gems to keep your weapons charged.

    9. Don't stand in fire lol.

In terms of skills points I wouldn't worry about "missing out". There are enough skyshards around that there is enough skill points to go around. Plus you can always go back and collect them if you miss them. Pick up the "skyshards" addon if your worried you missed a bunch.

My best advice. "play your way" works for lvls 1-50. For vet levels you'll eventually want to follow this "formula" or risk a concussion from bashing your face with your palm repeatedly.

    9. Don't stand in fire lol.

    Easy in theory.
    Far from so in practice:

1 - many bosses seem to have unlimited magicka, and can pump out fire attacks "for ever" - dodging one fireball just puts you straight in the line of fire from the next..

2 - flamer-type enemies tend to spawn together with at least one other flamer, or an archer. Dodging the archer's op arrows puts you right in line of the caster's op fire, or vice-versa.

End result is the same - insta-death.

(Now let's see how many LoL's the l33t-crowd can mange to give this post...)

it's a 2h hybrid that focuses more on stamina
lots of crits on spells and melee

as for gear right now I am kind of confused what I should go for as far as rings and necklaces. Ive got my mana and stamina both close to cap near max so I can cast repeatedly between light attacks (still learning the ani-cancel, i hear its gonna go away that and shield block + casting).

I dont have a lot of spell dam increase and crit increasing stuff. maybe I should get that.

The linear leveling system is my biggest gripe in this game. It just gates everything off whether it be lower or higher level areas. As a result it impairs playing with others unless they are the same or close to the same level as your character.

Not sure how it could ever be changed or improved (scaled repeatable dungeons will be an improvement) but in mean time it would be good to see two things:
    • tougher bosses & mini bosses sub vet levels.
    • journal category for main alliance quest line.
I'm not sure why they didn't put in a heading for the main alliance quest line like they did fighters, mages, undaunted, and main quest lines but they need to add this.

Incorrect. There are other quests outside of the main story quests that grant 1 skill point as a reward.

    Go here: http://dulfy.net/2014/03/30/eso-quests-guide/

And thumb through the quests by zone, it'll tell you which gives only gold, only gold and items or gold, items, and a skill point.

They broke so much of the game down Barney-style.

I remember the loudest complaint on the forums at the time was the solo'ers were mad that everything was too hard for them to do alone. So it was made easier.

    the right guild.

Where are these? I've so far joined two guilds that advertised themselves as being PvE-focused, and there for helping out other players. In both cases it turned out that the "helping out" part was just a farking joke seeing as everyone were vet14 and had already completed all the quests, and therefore unable to actually help, and also that the guilds were full of elitist pricks shouting down requests for help with "l2p n00b".
Needless to say I immediately removed myself from the rosters of both guilds. Too bad I didn't think of emptying their guild banks first...

Sadly the group finding tool is garbage. It only really works for dungeons. Not for World Boss camps or public dungeons. It would be far more easier if they applied those to the zone your in to make it easier for people to find groups when doing those sorts of world events.
