How does healing work as far as earning AP?

I've heard that you earn AP by healing someone who gets a kill. Do you also earn AP for just healing a lot? If not, then it seems like the fastest way to earn AP would be to drop the widest, cheapest heal you have and then switch to AoE burst, since you're going to get more AP from killing than from keeping people alive.

What qualifies as a heal? Does it have to regenerate health? If not, then that means Steadfast Ward is bad for earning AP. But would that mean that Restoring Aura grants AP, since it does give regeneration but not raw HP? If the amount you heal for is irrelevant, and all that matters is that you simply heal someone who gets a kill, then Restoring Aura would be an AP farming skill, right?

If the amount you heal for matters just as much as healing someone who gets a kill, then what's to stop people from farming AP by meeting up with other alliances, agreeing not to kill each other, and just spam dots and heals for AP?

    I play Cyrodiil mostly as a pure healer with some support.

    You seem to get some AP from players who make kills while you have an active heal on them, like Regeneration. You also get some AP from pure healing. However, these don't amount to very much.

    I get most of my AP from taking or defending keeps and resources while in large groups. The highest AP comes from successfully defending a keep where the siege lasted a long time. Just remember NOT to leave the keep until after you get your AP from defending it. It can be tempting to run out and take back the resources, but wait until you get your AP (aka "Defensive Tick").

    You gain AP for restoring HP, buffs like Restoring Aura don't grant AP. It is fairly low, on a good night I get between 15-25K an hour if focused solely on healing. If you are actively healing someone while they get a kill you gain a % of the AP, i'm not aware of how this is calculated I've only observed it.

    Nothing stops groups from doing that, that's not efficient though. There are much better ways too farm, but that's an entirely different topic.

    You get AP for healing players who have recently been in combat in cyrodiil.

    It is something around a maximum of 100 AP per player every few minutes. You get no AP for example by healing people who are continuously being healed. I think it is based on the same formula that governs the AP people are worth after death. You can leech decent AP by just spamming heals on people jumping off walls to run to fight at a resource.
