Guild identification in-game

Last time I was involved in an on-line game, squadron members (it was a flight sim) had their squadron name, or an abbreviation, pre-pended to their character name. This helped identify who was with whom in game, but also in chat. It certainly helped squadrons enforce their own codes of conduct. Would something like that be of use in ESO PvP? I don't mean tabards. They're not nearly distinctive enough for this.

Ideas?

I think this all the time. I know its very tough aside form a few costume wearing guilds to tell who is who out there.

a lot of times people see 1 name and assume an entire group is that guild leaders/members group, when really its only either just 1 person or just a few.

I would think a 3rd line underneath their title would work just fine.

for instance I didnt see a problem with WoW even with long titles like "lieutenant general" or "Knight-captain" along with someones name

Guys there's an addon for this. It displays an icon next to everyone's name in chat for ppl in your guilds and an additional icon if they're on your contacts. At work atm so o don't have the addon name.

Name plates with guild identification should quite obviously have been in place since launch. Every other mmo i've played had this. It's extremely annoying trying to find your guildmates in a huge zerg in Cyrodiil. We already can't target people to heal them and this makes virtually impossible to heal your friends when they need it.

The add-on I use is SocialIndicators. Of course, it only works for YOUR guilds and contacts. Not sure if there is an addon that works for ANY guild.

There isn't one, the API doesn't let you see what guilds ppl belong to if you aren't in their guild iirc.

There's an add-on called social indicators as the above poster mentioned. There's also an add-on called Target Lookup which adds class icons and alliance flag. I turned off the default alliance icon in cyrodiil cuz it helped with lag so the icon on the target window helps.

They would have to change the 5 guilds system for that to work.

One way I can see this happening is, by allowing you to choose one "main guild", while still keeping the 4 "secondary" ones.
I think that'd also increase the feeling of "guild identity", which is sometimes lacking in a game where you can belong to 5 guilds.

Second (perhaps necessary) change would be adding nameplates, and allowing players to showcase their "main guild" below that.

There was another thread about improving the guild system in ESO where I posted my concept in more detail, in case anyone is interested :p

^^ yeah you would definitely have to select 1 guild to be represented at any given time. Would be like a clan tag from most FPS's I'd imagine. but more sophisticated would be great.

I would love to see something like this because yeah. Tabards aren't really distinctive enough. they're nice, but don't really sit well on the characters and often hard to recognize them.

Yeah that's the issue I refer to. It means guilds cannot really broadcast themselves to outsiders as a unit in PvP (or PvE for that matter). You all know the ads that come by advertising guilds "we're a laidback bunch of friendly people yadayadayada.................". Nice, but just words.

That's why most of the major PvP guilds have everyone run around in a costume. .-.

How hard would it be to have...
    Rylana Dionysis
    Aldmeri Vice

    Appear over my toon?

Not hard id reckon, almost every game I have ever played before this had the guild name right under the char name.

Linking this to the player title I'm sure would work as the guild system is account based and not character specific. Though of course I know nothing about coding within gaming so I have no idea.
