I don't know if this has been suggested before, but what about after a couple of years, your subscription price drops by 1 or 2 dollars?

Opinions, GO!

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Not gonna happen. $15 is the standard and actually kind of cheap if you think about it. Sub based games started in the late 90s and they figured out that with the amount of players they where able to get along with how much it costs to run it they would need $15 a person to turn a profit.

Since then minimum wage has gone up 50%, the cost of living has gone up about 75%, cost of making a game has gone up about 150% yet the sub price has gone up 0%. So no the price will not drop.

Also still waiting on my Paul Sage pet.
@ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌ you know you want to help me make this happen.

Well , atleast you are an optimist since you consider this a plan for years in the future.

Assuming that i would even still be here to care about what they do years from now , i would prefer another pet/disguise... than a small reduction on my subscription.

Honestly speaking considering that these bonus are things that pile up , which means you would actually require all those years playing to get it. I dont think many would really care for this , they were already willing to pay the sub for years to get to that point lols.

Won't earn more money. If you have to be subbed for say 5 years to get a discount then lowering your price won't make more because obviously they already have your business and your not going anywhere anyway.

Lowering the initial investment would bring in more new players and would potentially make more money. That's why free trials are good. Everyone who was gonna buy the game for $60 probably already has. So do a free trial and go straight to the sub. Cut out that initial $60 and get them paying the sub and staying around. Aside from a cash shop subs make the money. Lowering a sub for people who where not planning on leaving makes less money.

Reducing the sub fee is a cool idea, but I don't think they'll ever go in that direction with the loyalty rewards. If the sub fee is to ever change (let's hope it does not), it'll likely be for other reasons.

Other things that could be future loyalty rewards:
    • More pets
    • Costumes
    • Bank space
    • Inventory space
    • Unique dyes
    • Unique crafting styles
    • Mounts and mount perks
    • Misc trophies
    • Character appearance changes

But they do leave. People leave and come back all the time. This might get then to stay, at least for a bit longer between leavings.
it will encourage people to keep their subscription going full time instead of getting a sub, leaving for a while, then coming back for a little bit and leaving again, making their income steadier. (Right?)

Not necessarily. Lets take FF14 for example. I was a legacy member meaning that I played during 1.0 when most people abandoned the game. When 2.0 came out they gave memebers like me $5 off of their subscription. But the game was no longer fun or enjoyable. I could be there spending $10 a month instead of $15 and saving $70 a year. If people don't think the game is good they won't pay or play not matter what. Just like I don't waste my time playing any of the hundreds of F2P games. They aren't fun so I don't play.

Mate , the rewards pile up.

That means when they add a reward 3 years from now , only the people that have been here since the start and are completing 3 years at that point will get it.

A player that has stayed sub that long , probably dont have a problem paying the sub.

Yes but how would that translate to non-american subscribers, and it would just mean less money to keep the game going. A better idea would be a unique item, like a mount, or a unique piece of gear, or maybe a special racial motif (akaviri please).

The cost of making a game has gone up way more than 150%, if you'd said a dev dropped $200 million on a title in 1998, we would have all laughed at you.

Of course, the number of copies that needed to sell in order for a game to be profitable has also gone through the roof. Take something like publishers whining about how Tomb Raiders x Million copies wasn't successful enough into the 90s, and you'd be met with similar derision.
