Getting into new ares. Do you have to complete the dungeon to get access?

jabcross12
I finished the coldharbour quests and three or four new areas became highlighted on the map with the only access points being the dungeons on there.

Is completing the Dungeon the only way to get access to the rest of the area or is it quest related.

If its dungeon related then my next issue is finding people to get a group when in the grouping tool, it doesn't even list the dungeons I want to do.

So for now I have no more quests to do and cant level up.

Interesting that you have gotten this far not knowing you can do other faction dungeons too just by porting to them.

You can do all 10 dungeons non-vet... you just need to finish the dungeon in your own area zone before the other 2 opens for you on the map.

On Vet all the dungeons are available which are done for vet.

EDIT: If you are still in your faction that you started with after killing molag, you need to find Cadwell. Think he was in Harborage who will give you the quest to do other factions and port you to the next faction you need to do.

No, the ne dungeons just popped up this week? I haven't been able to beat Molag Bol yet and was trying to get stronger before i tried again but its not working without getting any groups together to hit up dungeons. I miss questing!

All dungeons are optional. You can't queue for them because your level is too high (each normal dungeon corresponds to the level of its zone). You can try going in alone for the first 1-2 zones or ask in zone chat - a lot of people miss group dungeons, so you might find someone willing to go back with you. But it won't really make you stronger because exp from low level quests is pitiful. You'll be awarded skill points for completion though, so that's a little bit of help there.

So this is most likely because you hit Vet lvl and this opened all the vet dungeons for you. Even though you cannot get into the zones yet you are able to get into the vet leveled dungeons.

I read in the notes for the upcoming quests that they'll be scaling dungeons to your level. If so, then they'll get harder, but perhaps you will gain more XP from them? In that case, if XP points are the goal (not just the achievement) perhaps it would be better to wait for the patch?
Please stop making requests for game features. ZOS have enough bad ideas as it is!

This would be correct. They will scale to the lvl of the group leader. So Banished Cells instead of being like lvl 14-23 or something will become vet1 if the leader is vet1. And you will get the difficulty and loot accordingly.

My latest char I just grinded it quickly from 1 to vet1 then went the group dungeons for achievements and skillpoints.

You cannot get into the new zones until you have defeated Molag Bal.

The dungeons, as has been said above, are unrelated to this. Dungeons are unlocked one of three ways:
    • Discovering (on foot) and completing the dungeon in the zone you are in will unlock the other two other dungeons at the same level.
    • Talking to the Undaunted in each Zone Capital's tavern will unlock all three dungeons at that level. (Then you can do them in any order.)
    • Reaching Veteran Rank will unlock all previously-undiscovered dungeons.

UHHHhhhhhhh that makes sense, They did open up after i reached vet. Ok so I have to keep plugging away till i beat Molog. I wonder how long it will take me to level up by foraging for supplies ha ha I'm screwed.

P.s I swear some of you are gaming freaks! I don't know how you get so good at it. When I see someone run passed me who is vet14 i think to myself 'That will take me 3 more years.' and I wish there was a high five button out of respect... Doing a group dungeon by myself ha ha, you guys crack me up!

I'll get there, slowly. Lucky for me I like the journey of the game.

Yeah, as it is right now (before Update 5) you actually cannot level from VR1 by any other means than completing quests or killing veteran level mobs since you need Veteran Points to level rather than XP. So practically you will need to defeat Molag Bal and talk to Cadwell to progress to new quests etc.

A tip for Molag Bal = stay at range, pick up a bow or a staff for this fight and just run around a bunch. It is way, way easier to range him than melee him. That way it's really just:

    Run around
    Avoid red circles
Take a potion once in a while

He takes some time to kill compared to most encounters but as long as you avoid mistakes you should make it regardless.

  • jabcross12
Good advise, I thought it was taking so long because I wasn't strong enough so i will definitely try that next. Although staff and bow are two things i don't ever use ha ha DOH! I had better stockpile some potions...

So if the only obstacle now for you is Molag, then just finish him. If you have issues downing him. Tell us your class, armor, weapon of choise, do you have food, potions and there are plenty of people who will give tips on defeating and even food and potions if you are not having those.

There's not much to do after you have finished quests in your faction zones. You could do the group dungeons that you have not done... first 2 zones or even 3 you prolly can easily solo, after that maybe bring friend to throw you a heal every now and then.

Yes that big *** *** is the only thing that stands in my way to being able to quest again.

    I use:
    Redguard Sorcerer
    heavy armour,
level 50 in sword and shield
I have vet 1 potions with stamina, health, and magic regen and a bonus critical damage
I typically use familiars however because I cant distract Molog I ditched the helpers and placed a deflective shield in there and a crystal shard.
I took your advise and started improving my range weapons and decided on the bow which I am just killing people with until I can get some better power.

I know for a fact it is my playing style that is holding me back. Up until a couple of months ago my strategy was to press all the buttons really fast and hope for the best ha ha...I'm being serious. Before you judge, keep in mind I didn't even have computer games growing up. I'm a 32 year old mum of two and the first game I ever played was dead space 3 and I screamed my way through the whole game.

I now however I realise that gamer's are like gymnasts, you want to start them early as possible ha ha.

I have a better idea, how about one of you guys kill Molag for me! yeah that sounds like a great idea!

P.s Thankyou so much for your time and guidance, I think you have all been really lovely.

oh my god i did it!!!!!!! I KILLED HIM! Oh jez my arm is sore now after that workout I think I need a protein shake.

Thanks for your help once again. Now I can move on with the game. Following your advise and using a bow was the difference this time for sure.

Congratulations. Yes some kind of ranged might be needed but not must. Some kind of heal though is must :) Anyway you've done it, have fun in the vet zones.

And don't worry... I'm 36 not father yet but of course played games since commodore.

It isn't as hardcore as you think. Dungeon mobs are stronger than normal ones, but the first tier is still only level 12-15. They are relatively easy to solo for a VR1 character. But then again, I don't have any experience with the build you're playing (I did it with DK and NB), so it might be different for you.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear you defeated Molag Bal. :) Good luck with the rest of the game!

If you have finished the main quests, go to the Harborage and find Cadwell, he has a quest for you. Upon accepting the quest you can teleport to another alliance and after finishing the storyline you can go back to Cadwell and get another quest where you get access to another alliance.
