So far we have; Insightful, Agree, Awesome, LOL. As a means to express our opinion without replying.
Why would you the developers NOT add a opposition to "Agree"? Is LOL a water down response to not agreeing? A poll on that subject in these forums, when last I checked was about a 50/50 split on using LOL as the disagree/dislike option.
Now I can understand wanting the forums to remain a warm and fuzzy bundle of joyous love and comradery. But lets face it. The forums are a place for OPEN discussion, opinion, and EXPRESSION.
Adding another option to the bottom options category that allows for the complete circle of expression is not only in the spirit of true forum conversation and expression but IMO it may even cut down on a few slanderous reply posts.
I believe it would be good to have both Disagree & Dislike categories added to the bottom of each post/reply, but if trying to keep this forum with its brightest halo above its head then perhaps just the Disagree option would be good enough.
Let me know if you gals/guys agree or not!?
..oops wait you cant disagree unless you post your disagreement!

no its not so black and white. If you agree then why do you agree? You agree word for word about what the poster said? Doubt it. No excuses to say you can click agree and have no need to post but if you disagree you are "obligated" to write a small essay on why you disagree.
Just no! Clicking disagree is easier and less time consuming ..and would have more forum contributions then constantly writing why you disagree.
Currently we have a "head in the sand approach" with the LOL (which btw I do not use as a disagree) as a PC disagree.
Time to put on the big boy pants and pony up a proper "opposite" response to the Agree button! ...or just take the agree button out.
I think OP has a point. A disagree button would make this forum a nicer place. And it would accomplish that by not having so many personal insults or other derogatory posts, as user could just press a button as opposed to writing what they think witch often turns into flaming war.
I agree with @Armitas that seeing what someone disagrees with you about, is much more helpful, but in reality this often turns into an ugly two way ego fight.

But the proven reality of the disagree button is that it turns in to one-way trolling.
For example, there's a certain poster on these forums who just votes "LOL" on all my posts, because they've decided two things:
1) That I care.
2) That it negatively impacts me.
If this were a disagree button, I would actually be more inclined to care, because it would negatively impact my forum rating. As it stands, it simply makes people think that I'm really funny, and it allows that person to let off steam that apparently builds up from seeing posts they don't like.
Personal insults or derogatory posts appear regardless of whether there's a disagree button in place. But the moderators can easily deal with that. They can't deal with people trolling a button.
