So yes, I'd ALSO like to see small pets that you can "wear" maybe by putting them in the costume slot? But then that might interfere with wearing the cool costumes I HOPE they are going to eventually give us as social clothes. Ideas on how to implement "wearable" pets and what besides snakes? AoC ALSO had a spider and a scorpion...which was cool but far too much "EEK!" factor for me! LOL

yeah, I like the ineraction thing too. Thats one thing that was very good in SWTOR (star wars online), that you could interact with your followers and actually make use of them in some way (crafting there). Perhaps they could add the undounted guild hirelings as "pets" that you could hire to be able to do the forced multiplayer areas solo, and given those hirelings had some personality, that could be fun for the solo experience as well :) Only suggestions to give an option for more solo gameplay as well as group play.

I posted a few ideas on a similiar thread, and for the life of me can't be bothered to dig through my previous posts to find it.

So I'll do my best to reconstruct it from memory.

    Here goes:

Wouldn't it be nice of our vanity pets did something more than just sit there? I'm not talking about a complex command and response system for the little monster but if they had animations more than "Sit here, smell finger, stare blankly, repeat sequence"

Say they had animations that fired off if our character's sat still long enough.

    For instance:

The monkey: If your character stands still long enough, the monkey could climb up your toon and sit on their shoulder.

The mudcrab: After standing still long enough, the crab would grow impatient and start snapping at the character's feet, causing you to dance about to avoid getting pinched.

Razak's critter: Similiar to the crab, after standing still for what the creature feels is too long, it musters up an electric charge and shocks your character, causing them to jump and yelp and admonish the creature.

The Scuttler: This strange little thing could be so hyperactive that while your character stands still, it starts running figure 8's around your character - darting in and out from between their ankles until slamming into a leg and tumbling over. Then proceeding to be adorable as it tries to pick itself up with no arms.

The Pig: Could do pig things, like find a mud wallow and roll around in it. Or bring your character truffles and drop it at their feet.

The Guar: Could become bored and fall asleep at your characters feet, going from cute and curled up to lying completely on it's back, feet in the air and snoring obnoxiously.

The dog: Could chase it's own tail or activate an animation with our character where our character throws a stick and the dog "Fetches"

I think that's all the available pets.

Anyhow the things need to do something more than just sit there.

    What do you guys think?

This despite the fact that I really WANTED to try Secret World. But I didn't and I'm perversely glad I didn't. NO PEACE until they fire Craig and bring back the RP server!

Well, here's what you missed... some decent writing from the team early on that wasn't quite as smart as it thought it was, followed by handing everything over to Bylos. Bylos was in the, "I am the one true artiste" mode. And was pushing content that required you to grind the group content or group up with buddies if you wanted to clear it. With a massive push for swarm content (40+ players spamming their basic builder attacks and nothing else for 5 minutes) as "seasonal events" along with raids that allowed players to just screw off and troll while everyone else did the work. By the time I left, it had gotten to the point where the new "single player" content wasn't actually doable in solo. Such as forcing the team or "solo player" to split up and defend different sites at the same time. And, then they slapped a necessary progression system behind a paywall.

That would be very cool to interact with the pets.

It's still funny when my little piglet runs to me and grunts a lot!

But it would be more fun, if I can
    - feed my vanity pet
    - "wear" my vanity pet (if it's small)
    - make emotes to my vanity pet and it "answers"

I dont't need vanity-pet-battles à la WoW... that's too much and not really realistic.

But a little bit interaction would be very nice, as @MornaBaine said. I totally agree.

By the way: What about growing up vanity pets to mounts? Can I get a little piglet and feed it and observe it and after a few weeks/months I get a piglet-mount? THAT would be awesome :)

Am I the only one who finds those wee Bantam Guars so thoroughly cute that I often just stop what I'm doing to watch those little guys?

Yeah, yeah, I know....they couldn't keep up with you if you had them as pets, and it would be rather cruel to make them try.

As for serious pets, no scheme before or since could either match or best that of Ultima Online's for its tamers: one of online gaming's truly superlative combat and activity systems. Brilliant!

The entire point of vanity pets is to have some resource light, cosmetic thing, that some intern can probably design, they can give players. By design, they aren't supposed to have a bunch of mechanics as you are describing.

It's true, the big clue is in the name, VANITY PETS they are a vanity not a useful thing.

And yes they are kind of lame, even the few that look good (that's in any game).

I think we should have real vanity pets - like a barber. Something that can cut and style your hair for you, maybe do a mani \ pedi while you're waiting for a world boss to spawn. Maybe get a nice cucumber facial just before your big confrontation with Molag Baal. After all, if he sees lines under your eyes, he might think you were up all night worrying about that fight.

What kind of pets would YOU like and what would you like to be able to do with them as far as limited interactions go?

I don't want a Vanity pet ... I want an NPC companion (or more ... a harem would be cool and that would appeal to my VANITY immensely!), I want to have a castle or defendable estate and lots of NPC progeny.
Furthermore, Id like to be able to begin a dynasty to challenge the throne and even Molag Bal himself (eventually) ... I'd like to be able to 'awake' from my vampiric centuries of sleep to read and hear about the famous warrior Breg Magol (or Brechador), bold, handsome, as adroit with a sword and battle-axe as he was with a horse, as well as being an absolute Adonis the subject of the flirtatious daydreams of all eligible damsels in the land of Tamriel ... (hey don't judge me .. this is a GREAT way to compensate for my reality!! ;)) ... I'd like for the opportunity for Amelixia herself to hit on my toon ... and make the supreme sacrifice to assume her mortal form again just so she can cook me soup @ my hearth on cold winter nights and whisper sweet incantations in my ear so as to increase my magicka and stamina ...

Yes .. that's pretty much it. Is it possible to have all of this in the next update please. I don't mind if the justice system is put on hold for the duration, I'll be too busy with my NPC 'companions' to bother with breaking any Tamrielic laws :P.

I've just put a good word in for you at ZOS headquarters, perhaps a ferret down your trousers is in order?

Also, there is news that @ZOS_JasonLeavey‌ hair will be available in 1.6 as a vanity item. While Jason's hair may not be an animal as such, it does have a mind of it's own.

Feel free, but don't be surprised if they don't do it.

They could have had the war dogs from skyrim for sale, but haven't. It's my personal interpretation that they just want the pets to be ornamental.

Now begging them for decent outfits and racial motifs seems to work, since they have actually added those. I also believe encouraging them to create new crafted sets might work too, but be sure to suggest several so they have the magicka, stamina, etc bases covered with them.
