If we're going to have vanity pets...

STANDARD DISCLAIMER: I am NOT saying "ZoS do this now or I'm unsubbbing!" nor am I saying, "ZoS do this BEFORE fixing important issues XYZ!" IF ZoS were to implement any of this it would obviously be up to ZoS to determine how and when. So all posts along the lines of "NOOO! ZoS has to deal with "XYZ" that is more important first!" will be ignored. I hope the rest of you with meaningful contributions will simply ignore those (sadly inevitable) posts as well. Thank you. Now then...

In every game I have ever played I have always been disappointed in the pets because they don't do anything but follow you around. And you can never even get very close to them. I want pets we can INTERACT with. Clicking on your pet should give you at least a couple options. 1. pet (as in, yes, you can pet your pet!) 2. feed (you put down a dish of food) 3. give treat (yes I totally want a begging animation! lol). Those are just some basic "normal" pet interactions for dogs and cats but other pets could also have unique animations. I would like birds to be able to land on your outstretched arm and you should be able to pet them as well. Crows and parrots should be able to sit on your shoulder but NOT hawks! Those are birds of prey dammit and anyone who has ever been lucky enough to hunt with them KNOWS you don't put them on your shoulder! LOL It would also be nice if we could make cats hiss and dogs growl and act menacing, ditto for wolves and big cats when/if we get them as pets. If your character sits your pet should come sit beside them. There should also be a "lay down" command. These small things would seem realistic and add to immersion and make having a pet actually fun.

It would also be nice if we could feed carrots and apples to our horses as treats and pat them on the neck.

But no, I have no idea whatsoever as to possible interactions with that stupid ghost fish they've just recently foisted off on us.

What kind of pets would YOU like and what would you like to be able to do with them as far as limited interactions go?

I totally agree with you great suggestions, I hope that is something we will see in game one day.

I would also like it if you could train certain vanity pets to be able to help out on Combat even in the slightest, perhaps through finding books (like motifs)

I dont think that we need a lot of options to do with pets. But it would be nice if you could interact not with only your pet. Eg you dont have a dog, but you see someone who have it, and you come closer and play a little with this puppy, Or a ghost fish. And IMO one or two options would be enough.

Morna, you never cease to delight.

A Banekin that can dance on command, serve drinks and serve cheeseboards. The serving ones would likely never be done, I mean what if it was served with wooden items fresh from Valenwood and your character is obsessed with enforcing the green pact? Catastrophe.

Put yeah, a unique animation for every pet type would be cool.

Similar to mounts, horses for example, their unique racial is that you can hold sprint and forever maintain a faster-than-not sprinting speed with stamina depleted.

So mounts will have a unique racial each. Vanity pets could too? Dogs roll over, cats offer you a present in the form of a mouse, Banekin dance and serve cheeseboards at undead dinner parties and so on. I'm sure someone could come up with better ideas but yeah.

I like the Falcon trophy from the public dungeon in The Rift. It's so majestic, but it doesn't do much. A bird vanity pet that when idle rests on your shoulder and seemingly converses with you as your character strokes it, feeds it or whatever, would be incredible.

I will like to interact with my pets -- pet them or feed them OR interact with other player's pets for RP reasons. I will like to keep pets OUT OF COMBAT! It will add to many balancing issues and I do want to be forced to drag a pet along to do some content. Pets should be kept for looks and may be some LIMITED interaction.

I think this is a very bad idea. If we start feeding the pets, they'll simply poop all over Tamriel. Then we need pooper scooper emotes otherwise we'll be stepping in it and slipping during combat. This will also encourage griefers to overfeed their pets and not clean up after themselves. That leads to leash laws and excrement enforcement, which requires the justice system. And to top it all off, we already deal with enough cr-p from others players, why do you want more?

You raise a valid point Sir! How foolish of me not to consider the potential ramifications of my request! Most certainly there will need to be city ordinances, leash laws, public trashcans for the disposal of pet waste, and of course all of that will need to be paid for with taxes! There will have to be hefty fines for non-compliance and these will be needed for the inevitable shelters that will have to be built for neglected or abandoned pets! The potential drain on the justice system is quite frightful! What was I thinking???? ;)

I do want vanity pets at some point. rather sooner than later, thank you.

What i actually DEMAND is that normal vanity pets like dogs, cat,s frogs and what ever people would normally see as pets are something you get from game by playing a game. Pets you either need to catch from world or buy from vendor.

    ABSOLUTELY NOT REAL MONEY CRAP

All the odd pets like the late Hrothgar wraith which now sits in my bank would be welcome to real money store if one is ever implemented. Good way to keep number of odd pets small.

Later, like AION did. Add interactions like petting, leashes maybe, feeding and such to make them even more fun :)

Then they are no longer vanity pets. I'm not against the idea of having fighting pets but they should be attached to a skill line, maybe something you can get from the Undaunted and have to quest to obtain.

One of the only good things with The Secret World was how the pets would interact and harass one another.

As someone who has trained parrots, can I just add that you shouldn't put parrots on your shoulder either, very bad idea. You should interact with them when they are sitting on your hand or wrist, lower than your face.

To me a black/white wolf/dog would be more than good enough.

Pity the only one they added is a steam thing , which i therefore couldnt get. I do remember a mod saying they would add other later on , but nothing until not , like always they are being slow like hell.

If it wasn't game breaking or contributing to lag pets that fight would be OK IMO. It should take a place on the action bar as a toggle though.

I think I'd rather see traditional pet types that you could interact with. Name them, pet them, feed them and as they level the kinds of tricks they do, or value in a fight would increase. IMO there's no real reason to use even a vanity "pet" in ESO. There is no attachment to them in any way shape or form for me.

Oh and we need a pet snake! In Age of Conan my character's backstory included a small adder that was always with her and was essentially her familiar. I was delirious with joy when, out of the blue, AoC gave us a snake that remained curled about your arm and actually moved. I need that back! So yes, I'd ALSO like to see small pets that you can "wear" maybe by putting them in the costume slot? But then that might interfere with wearing the cool costumes I HOPE they are going to eventually give us as social clothes. Ideas on how to implement "wearable" pets and what besides snakes? AoC ALSO had a spider and a scorpion...which was cool but far too much "EEK!" factor for me! LOL

    I approve.

Though the first thing I would like to see is to name your pet. You already can give a name to your horse so why not to your vanity pet.
All my pets have names because they are very dear to me (and because I like to name things). Still it would be nice to give them actual names so when you point at your pet, you would see the name above him/her.
That's what a dose of reality does for you. Never touch the stuff myself.

    THIS.

ZOS, please add a display toggle switch for ALL vanity pets, and let us get these ridiculous things off our screens if we want.

I'm so very tried of seeing and hearing monkeys, pigs, rodents, freaking *icewraiths* (or whatever other flavour of the week pet they'll think up next) as they follow people around constantly. They aren't exactly great for the already struggling framerate in cities. This is not a proper Elder Scrolls feature, it's simply cartoon MMO nonsense.

If you want to drag around a deranged little mudcrab all day then fine, whatever makes you happy I guess, but you should be the only one that has to look at it.

Or simply make a side quest that lets me pin them all to trees with arrows. That would be fine also. ;)

    Cheers.

Yes, this is true, I can see people giving rude names to their pets.

And I'm kind of sad nobody can see my horse's name. My DK has a horse called "My Luck", and I really do love the idea of riding "My Luck".

Nice, my Altmer rides a horse called "High Horse" - Makes me laugh a little extra when she gets knocked off.

I do agree with you @ramasurinenpreub18_ESO; having a toggle ability would be great although I would recommend that it only toggles off other player pets on the active players screen. IE if a user is on a slower computer they can run their own pet if they so choose but not see others to help with framerate.

As for pinning them to a tree with arrows - I used to do that to Lydia in Skyrim so it seems lore allowed............
