I was demonstrating the power of the resto staff buffed Soul Assault to your red DK cohorts last night, with positively ludicrous results.

PROTIP - Even though a DK cant pull you off the wall with chains anymore, doesnt mean a Templar with a grudge cant snipe you and turn you to ash with 3k worth of CHARGIN MAH LAZOR, so dont stand on the edge like a smug little noob.

Wearing 5 or more pieces of heavy armor increases your spell resistance and armor by 20% and increases your soft caps by 20%.

I usually float a Dark Flare and then lazer them. The lazer should at least take most people down at least 2/3 before they can move. The dark flare should take care of the rest after it finally lands 10 seconds later when they think they are safe.

I used to wear 5 heavy 2 light, S &B DK with resto staff on off bar. I had to use cost reduction rings to compensate. Switched to 7 light, I tank better(more spell resist, more magika efficiency so more dragon bloods), take less damage, I can use more spells as they cost less, have better overall regen and I put damage enchants on the rings so I do more damage.

Heavy armor is viable, light is just better.

I actually like 5 heavy, just for the block talent....next patch it'll get a slight buff with the cost reduction on breakfree.

While I would love to go back to heavy armour, wield a hammer and start smashing heads with it like we did in Beta, is almost impossible to do it now. :(

Hence my Templar is 5LA/2MA or 7/7 LA, with resto/destro or resto/shield.

(the 2 MA because I do roll on the floor more often than many, to keep away from the insane amount of CC, since purge is bugged lately)

If we want to make this game more ESO and less Mages Online, light armour needs to receive a hell of nerf, along with Magicka based damage, remove the 300 spell & armour pen Cyrodiil buff, and make both Spell Resist and Armour Rating absorb more damage.
(possibly add bit STA bonus on heavy).

As for the bow vs light armour, I agree. :/

The NPC guards, can hit a VR12 7/7 light player for 1600+ with the bow.
Players, can do even more. Hence it requires almost always to have a shield up.
    (Harness, Immovable, BS, anything).

Light Armor is also very vulnerbale to NBs. ALL the melee NB abilities are based off of the targets armor factor (even tho they are magika abilities)

As a NB, Light Armor users are usually much easier to kill than heavy armor users. My toughest fights are against heavy Armor DKs and Templars.

Also as a NB you should not wear light armor unless you are a caster spec. Your melee NB abilities are all based off of weapon crit. Enchanting 1 ring with +magic resist will gives you the magic resist of light armor
Wow. I have so been doing it wrong. My main spec is built around Ambush, Surprise Attack, Swallow Soul, Impale, and Dark Cloak, with Incapacitating Strike as my ultimate.

I've been wearing 5/2 Light/Medium armor, and using the Apprentice Mundus Stone for the Spell Penetration boost, along with the Spell/Armor Pen weapon enchants.

Should I be running full Medium armor for this build? And what about my Mundus Stone choice? Should I be going for crit, crit damage, extra Magicka? I haven't been able to find any reliable information on how the Nightblade's melee abilities work, so any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance! :)

One of the biggest problems is that light armor people can use the heavy armor activated with 0 heavy equipped. They should change it to 5 or the very least 2/so you can't have 7 light and immovable

This should really be a thing for all of the armour skills. You should have to be wearing that type to have the active abilities work.

On topic I currently wear full Heavy Pact gear, I don't have any delusions about how bad it is but for the purpose I want it works.

Im intrested to test i on my dk aswell but as i can se it goes like heavy armor uou stay more there you do less dps, light armor you stay less there you do more dps.

Now what i am not sure of is what gives an advantege at the end along with passives and skills.

I am not sure though how viable a DK can be because it lacks alot on magica managment after so many nerfs ot has taken.(that they sould be done)

I guess at the end the only advange of it is going to be like "wow look how much damage this guy can take he is op-imbawhatever"

Mainly impression in practice may fails, no idea though i have to test it.One day lol

Problem really is that you could do everything you did there but better if you used Light :/

I've dabbled with heavy armor on my Templar too, for example trying the Nikulas set (25% to reflect while blocking) and it was kind of fun but resource management was terrible compared to light armor. Every spell costs 50% more mana.

Heavy has gotten better but still needs more help.

I'm not quite that unkillable, but this is the reason my S&B DK tank wears full heavy. It helps my playstyle - which involves a lot of charging into/through enemy groups in advance of my group. Regardless of what you think of the passives, heavy armor helps survivability.

Also, for a tank that is (hopefully) getting hit a lot and has a lot of health, the stamina/magicka regen passive works pretty well.

Everyone keeps telling me I need to pick up a resto staff and go light armor, but I'd likely quit the game before going down that (well trodden) path.

Heavy needs a serious boost, plus making Immovable require 5 pieces so you see it in the field more often.

Adding a % damage reduction per piece of heavy worn against all incoming damage it a good way to handle it. Gives you real survivability while making you want to wear more pieces.

Obviously not the same (especially since you sacrifice other possible set bonuses), but the PvP heavy armor (Bastion of the Heartland) set bonuses give a nice DR in PvP. The full 5 piece bonuses:

    (1) +135 Health (in VR12 Epic)
    (2) +4% Healing taken (With the 7% healing taken from the Rapid Mending passive this makes a big difference for a meatshield)
    (3) Reduces all damage from players by 5%
    (4) Reduces all damage from siege and from player AoE by 20%.

You certainly sacrifice damage output, but for a tank (especially one running in a group most of the time), this isn't a bad set up.

How many of those set pieces have Impen on them?

On top of that, why should anyone been limited to a single setup to pvp in to use HA?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Heavy Armor get buffed. I just don't think that it's true to say Heavy = Bad. :) Unless of course you are trying to resto staff/AoE impulse spam/DPS in heavy. ;)

As for the Bastion set, only the chest has impen. Wish we could swap the traits, but I have impen on both additional crafted armor pieces and my shield(s). That gives me 400 crit resist. Not sure I'd go higher than that if I had the option - although I would certainly drop the reinforced trait on the heavy pact legs in favor of something else.

I am all for buffing heavy armor. And as has been mentioned, there is very little Impen on dropped heavy sets, which makes it even more difficult to use in PVP. I, personally, want to see either Impen or a variation thereof added as a passive to Heavy Armor. If adding Impen as a passive to the Heavy Amor line is viewed as too much of a buff, I would really like to see a passive that reduces the magnitude of critical hits per piece of heavy armor worn (minimum 5-pieces). The latter would give a unique defensive stat to Heavy Armor that can't be achieved in any other way.
