Stop Breaking My Heart

Among those things that I find to be extraordinarily endearing about ESO are the npc voice-overs.

I believe they're very well scripted and superbly performed by the folks who do the speaking.

My sole criticism might be that there are actually too few of these very talented people doing the voices of far too many npcs (as I believe was the case with Skyrim) - but that isn't the point of this post. (I'm sorry - I digress.)

In no other online game that I've played do the npcs say things that are as clever, as down-right funny, as insightful, as inspiring - or as sad - as those in Elder Scrolls Online.

To put it the best way I know how: it's heart wrenching for me to encounter so many poor people, displaced victims, and homeless refugees, etc - all over Tamriel, it seems (or just about everywhere I've been so far, anyway) - who are knelt down by the side of some roadway or city street (or in some marketplace, encampment, or shipyard), begging for "a few coppers" (saying things like "I'm not asking for much..." or "Please help me..."), and for me to be unable to even speak to them (no interaction is possible), or toss them a coin or three.

I'm aware of certain randomly occurring encounters that take place in various overland locations (as well as a man and woman who seem to be permanently located in Davon's Watch), where it is possible for players to interact with (speak to) npcs who are asking for a handout, and then to choose a response - but these aren't the ones I'm referring to (and they seem to be far outnumbered by all the 'statically' located characters that I encounter in the places I mentioned).

Please make a way for me (and others) to help these folks out (or not?), and then maybe have them wander off (or de-spawn) for a game day or so.

It just feels horrible to pass by someone who is (very convincingly) begging/pleading for help, and knowing that there's no way I can help or even interact with them (I stop anyway, almost always, and try to click on them - just to make sure. I know: I'm a sap.)

Thank you.

I feel this way especially about the poor Dunmer beggar in Davon's Watch, who is always being harassed by that guard. I wish I could do something to help, anything!

:( Yes, please. I too would like to be able to help them.
;) I kept the three guys in FO 3 alive with Purified water, then had to load back because the new water killed them :s
Hopefully the justice system won't make it stealing for us to collect our provisioning mats from the barrels?
I hope it is really clear what is acceptable looting, and what is stealing.

I've SO wanted to give that guard a piece of my mind a time or two. (Heh - and I actually have, come to think of it - it's too bad he couldn't hear me though.)

Now, whenever I travel to Davon's Watch, I make it a point to take the long way around - it's easier on my nerves to just stop and hand Mr and Mrs 20 gold on my way past. :p

Some beggars you can give gold to but they seem few and far between.

As for the voice acting I think it is excellent. I agree it would be nice to have a little more variety for the simple fact that some of voices are quite distinct in tone and accent and it can be just a little immersion breaking when you hear the same voice on multiple NPC's. This is no reflection on the talent of the voice actors or the script writers though. Beautiful content and well excecuted.

Maybe the fact that you can't interact them is a good thing, in that it won't give you the satisfaction of helping people out. Instead you'll have to turn to the real thing.

    Or not. *shrug*

What i do is : /give money or
    /give change
... when I stand in front of some poor soul begging. It doesn't trigger an appropiate reaction in the NPC, but it helps me a bit.

I wouldn't mind if a few coins are substracted by this action, but this doesn't seem to work (even if one types : /give 5 gold no gold is substracted from one's own purse)

Thoses scum beggars are annoying and a disgrace in the nice city.
We need the possibility to crush them under our boots like little cockraoch.

... well crushing seems a bit harsh ... but maybe chase them away (for a while) if that suits your immersion could be the answer. (?)
