I see a small patch come over the launcher.
My character who had just reached VR7 is now three quarters of the way to VR5.
The guild store has [eng] in front of each category again.
All my add-ons are out of date.
There are no patch notes.
I have no more words. This is beyond Wal-Marted.

✭✭✭✭✭The Launcher can "patch" the game to repair a file that gets corrupted if say your kicked from the game for some reason.
What version number does your game say now? It should say 1.4.5
As for losing the experience and levels, that is something else.Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Logged off in Greenshade. Logged on to the bank in Davon's Watch, as the lower level character I described.
Logged on just now, back in Greenshade, level 7 again.
Were this not a client/server game and a contemporary one running what appears to be a shadow buffer to mitigate data loss, I would not be so....bewildered right now.
Sorry...I would never have raised such an alarm had the data on the server side not seemed so dreadfully off.
Took the day off for my birthday. Spent my birthday playing because my job now is far from home. Turned 62 today and been a game developer since forever. Never saw the like of this.
Now, if you will excuse me, I need to take a deep, deep breath. Strange how much these games still mean to me....16 -

I get my mules mixed up all the time. I have had to give them dramatically different clothes just to keep them straight. The names I gave them is not helping matters (as they are variations of two names....)

✭Okay, just got done with a GM and we have an answer to the mystery.
Unbeknownst to me, they occasionally copy our characters from Production to Test. This is to help us test of course, as we can't test the new stuff if we have to make fresh character on the PTS.
Somehow I loaded the test client, even though I no longer have it active on the launcher and have not logged onto the PTS in ages.
I logged into a version of myself that was.....well....you get the picture.
Proof of one thing at least. The support folks here are first rate.12 -

poodlemasterb16_ESO✭✭✭✭✭It seems to be back. What happened must have been some *** up over the PTS I had installed. It's gone now, the PTS files are deleted.
Now my PTS setup disappeared a while ago and my 8 char normal game is nothing like the 1 char PTS game I had. How they managed to get my games confused is beyond me.
It was my 8 char game that was ***, so no, I did not log on to the PTS server which is not in my launcher anyway.

How you managed to fire up a PTS game that was not in my launcher is beyond me, well not really, but is enough to make me delete all my PTS content.

Sorry Gina, you were right but I missed your post and the fellow who also nailed it who called me "dude." Just kidding...Skeletorz.
I'd been wondering why we didn't have the character copy option for the test server and almost inquired about that on this forum. I started a character there with another name entirely but realized it was futile because I'd never get to the content you were testing. I must have missed the announcement that character copy had indeed taken place.
Plus I had the PTS turned off on my launcher. In short, poodlemaster, I don't know either. And I didn't see the character I'd created on the PTS on the list of characters....yet another Dunmer who, like my current main, bears an uncanny resemblance to one of my ex-wifes but I digress.
The speed with which Gamemaster Moon sussed it out in-game will be my lingering take-away, and the helpful and good humored folks here. Well....and the odd way I received so many birthday wishes...which I truly appreciate by the way.
As does Andala, my now VR 7 yet again character....relaxing by the fire after it was all over.

poodlemasterb16_ESO✭✭✭✭✭This happened because of the policy to force updates to the PTS client. That's why I deleted the PTS crap.

✭Yes, there was a hotfix....and I was quite suspicious naturally when I saw it coming onto the launcher this morning before I left for work. But, as those fretful thoughts entered my head I remembered Mel the Vampire Slayer (Mel Adrys, the Dunmer Van Helsing) telling me to calm the f*ck down.
That's not really what he's saying in that Basil Rathbone voice of his, but he might as well be.
