I Prefer to Solo, online or not...

Rawlu
Rawlu
Soul Shriven
As a 14+ year veteran of so-called 'MMO's' starting with Everquest etc.?...

I Prefer to Solo.

That does not mean I never group etc. ok? in fact I was at one point an officer in a EQ raid guild during the POP days, it doesn't get any more 'Group!' than that. but I hated it, way too time consuming & too much drama, I no longer raid, period.

The vast majority of the time I've spent in so-called 'MMO's' over the years I simply want to login go straight to work doing My thing. I have zero time standing around looking for a group & never have. I want to come & go as I please, I'm on & off line all the time. being in a group you always feel committed to stay that little wile longer? at least I always have? next thing you know you have been on much longer than you would of liked.

But probably the thing I hate most are the Troublemaking Snotnoosed Kids who all want to be in charge & who all know everything who I have zero interest in knowing let alone wanting to play with online. this BTW? gets 10X worse with Free to Play...

So this whole so-called 'MMO'/Must Group just because its Online thing has been a thorn in my side since day one I started playing EQ etc. back in 2000.

Now I love Elder Scrolls, I love the Mature rating, look & feel of the game, that is what I want as a 45 year old Adult, a Mature game in every way, not kiddie lookin WoW graphics etc.. that is why I supported EQ for so many years, it was a Mature looking game.

14 years I Soloed NP in EQ etc.. I always paid/preferred a Subscription. & I bought every expansion just to support the game even tho I didn't have to(free on test server). that, is how important the Solo Community can be to your game Zenimax/Bethesda.

Now I felt prompted to create this post because of the following YouTube video by itsZiz? who talks about his #1 Concern going forward, the Lack of Solo support. & I feel he quite eloquently? points out the never-ending foolishness/Mindset of just because its Online you Must Group/be social. just the tip of the iceberg as to why so many people may just Prefer to Solo, Online or Not...

TY.

BTW, I'm still waiting for the PS4 version, pls save me from this PC Hell!?!...

Can I ask then, in all seriousness, what draws you to an MMO? Just because it's there doesn't mean you need to play it. I understand you probably like a lot of the solo content and just want more but it is online. Why play an online game if you want to solo? I would rather play something I don't need to worry about lag for and that is geared to solo exclusively.

I'm not bashing; I am genuinely curious about what draws you to MMOs if you like to solo. Thank you.

While out questing I often saw many other adventurers, sometimes we helped each other.

ESO has 300 hours of solo questing gameplay.
It also has endless hours of solo PVP gameplay.
It has solo dungeon gameplay (solo delves, public dungeons).

It seems like you have made this post and have not actually played this game.

I like to solo too. The great majority of current game content is solo. I hear there is more coming. I am not sure I will have finished current solo content by the time that comes out at the rate that I'm going.

I like to solo, so i'll give you my reasons for playing ESO an MMO. I won't go into the loving The Elder Scrolls and playing the game series as a solo pc game, I'll try and explain why an MMO and not grouping.
I like having others around, I love the feeling of a bustling thriving living town :) . Its like going to a mall. You want to go shopping enjoy the afternoon, you walk into the Mall and its empty. You can still have fun but its more fun (sometimes) if you walk in the mall and one side is having a puppet show, there are kiosks showing off their wares by having little remote control car racing , a choir is singing and people are laughing and it feels good. I didn't have to join the choir, or drive one of the cars to enjoy the afternoon. I was a part of it by being there with others. I want a game that keeps growing and changing , without waiting for an expansion every 6mos. You get on an MMO and its a different experience every time. I like running into someone in a cave that may need some help or seeing someone show up when I do.. But I also like to do it myself. I like to kill a bunch of NPC's to reach a tower or run through a cave and beat the boss while stopping and pilfering every single barrel , sack , vase and body on the way to the Boss. I don't want to be rushed.. I like going through everything or going through nothing . I like to play without dealing with other peoples idea of fun, which are not always the same as mine. I don't mind the random pairing for a short amount of time to achieve a goal you need help with but having to group and depend on others for any achievement worth having is ridiculous. Playing solo doesn't mean playing alone. I hope this makes sense !

Perfect sense.. I could have written that myself, as it sums me up quite well..
Don't get me wrong, I do like an odd raid every now and then.. but I don't have the time or inclination to get all serious about them these days. (I used to btw).

So I like to chug along at my own pace, doing something or nothing for the most part, and casual grouping as and when it arises if I feel the urge..

Ok, I think I have a better understanding of where y'all are coming from.

I guess by these definitions I like to "solo" as well. I like doing quests by myself to take the time to immerse myself but I like to be able to contribute to something bigger than myself, such as contributing to a guild or participating in a siege. I can really understand your desire to solo, but I don't feel like this game discriminates against solo players.

I guess I have another question (again, not trying to say you're wrong, just curious about your thoughts): What would you suggest for a sustainable solo end game? Nothing story related is very sustainable; you defeat Molag Bal once, you do all the alliance quests once (per character). What sort of gameplay would you want as a solo player for end game? Thanks again!

Edit: Also, I'm not sure why commenting on this thread did not bump it back up to the top. Weird.

I am right there with you Rawlu! I love this game, but I prefer to solo most of the content. I only like to group for Public/Group dungeons like Crypt of Hearts, and for World Bosses and Dolmens when I cannot take them down on my own. Though I have tried and succeeded a few times.

I play the game because I like the Elder Scrolls lore, the look and feel of the game and the small little surprises you can find. But if ESO was a "GROUP Mandatory" game, I would definitely not be playing it. I don't PVP, haven't even been to Cyrodiil. I haven't even done anything in Craglorn because I am simply not interested in group mandatory content.

If a player comes up to mine and automatically does an invite to group without even asking me in zone chat if I want to do it, it is automatically denied.

What is the point of grouping with people if those in the group will not consider the other players with them and want to rush through everything and don't let other players catch up, then boot them out? And it happens a lot. Or, they want to grind for hours on end and frankly that is boring as all heck.

Also, there has never been any where that has stated that Massively Multiplayer means Mandatory Grouping to play. It just indicates that a lot of people can play at the same time and interact with each other if they choose to do so. Just because that is the way previous MMOs have decided to market themselves doesn't mean that they have to remain chained to that line of thinking.

All I know is, unless some serious VR11-14+ solo content is added in the next couple of months, my sub is going to be placed on hold until some is added. A lot of other solo players are most likely going to do the same thing, which means a huge loss of revenue for ZOS during that waiting time.
Far too many characters to list any more.

I would like the story to continue. There is a thousand years to play with, so why not play it ? I would like to see one big download a year where a completely new era comes into play. The entry level would be Vet 14 or whatever the highest level obtained in the battle for Cyrodiil happens to be. Maybe add a new race split the alliances into two sides , let the player create a new character if they want so they can pick a side, like they can now. Or, have us on the same team but battling the evil from different areas. Once the player acheives what they can, throw them over into the other area to continue the battle (like now but we won't be fighting for the enemy). When both or all three or four or however many areas we have to do are completed there would be a boss (like Molag Bal ) to defeat. Have this go to lvl 28 or higher then continue the story .. The difference is everyone starts at a higher level and the story and interactions should show this. I think people want the story to continue, they want to play Elder Scrolls a living story. I know I do. I don't want to do trials and dungeons forever... I want to play the game.

Fix what is already broken first & foremost IMO.

Another thing I've noticed over the years & only too well in EQ for example? is constantly adding new content that everyone is screaming for? wile ignoring what is in-game already & needs to be fixed.

Years bugs etc. would go unaddressed, maybe just small things? but a lot of small things? add up to a big thing that degrades the overall exp of the game.

So please ZMO? fix what's already their ASAP & get it over with? the sooner you do the better off the game will be Overall.

    TY.

it seems like you didn't actually read the post because they posted based on watching that video? the guy in the video is the one talking about lack of solo content. they simply gave their feedback to ZMO, not you.
