so we whittled these campaigns down to a few manageable ones where all our main forces gather on one in particular. i like this no matter what detractions there are. i crave large scale stuff. i like that the players have found ways to divvy up the smaller ones and find homes for dueling and questing.

so what happens when the massive number of pve'ers and achievement hunters flood our campaigns? it's already right now near impossible to get these guys to listen to those of us who have been solely pvping, so when they dominate the maps... already i'm just shrugging.

a lot of games try this it seems--to get more pve players into the pvp aspects--by implementing things that you must pvp to do. but you cannot dictate hours that they should be there, which campaign to go to for our experiences to not collide in a bad way, or a learning system that says (politely) to listen to already established the strategists and leaders.

GW2 was the worst recent experience in forcing the union of pve/pvp. most people only put up with its awful merger because it was free to play. i can't say that i want to pay to wait in 100+ man queues while the people inside fight only for the center of the map ignoring any and all other things that go into making cyrodiil what it is. it's already hard enough to get casuals to spend AP on seige and camps, and now we are going to be introduced to a massive population of people with 0 AP trying to force their way into an instance through our maps?

even if we split and all the pvpers find a campaign to call home... what happens when everyone sees 1 campaign pop locked and 3 or 4 not? most people's inclination is to queue up for the locked one because it will show a better chance of opening routes to the city based on numbers. worst case scenario, we all split campaigns where each faction has an opening on a different map, so you wind up with 3 dead maps full of pve/achievers using the tunnels...and that point, what was the point of coming up with all the mechanics and ways of entering?

i know that sounds borderline elitist, selfish, proprietary, or whatever you wanna call it. it's fine and w/e at this point, but i think it is something we need to think about. no likely situation sounds fun. gamers always choose the path of least resistance and noe of those are ever "just play the game as intended"--which is what this design sounds like it is hoping for... but from all the unintended (oil, leaps, pulsar, bat swarm, bolt escape) things we have abused, how is the imperial city going to be any different?

I just think that IC will lose all its value if they do not solve these buff campaigns. IC is supposed to be hard fought and earned. If IC was out right now it would be a joke on all NA campaigns except Thornblade.

Excited..you have to be joking, the state of pvp and the yoyo effect of break/fix/break gives me no hope and zero faith that it will be fixed for many months.

i do how ever really enjoy the pve in eso, but unfortunately i will choose to get my fix from pvp else where, which will mean, maybe one month i will sub for pve, and maybe unsub when i feel the need to pvp in other stable platforms.

the frustration i get forces me to just go else where for pvp.
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
Also the fact that they have no plans for meaningful small scale pvp, pretty much sways me to going to other games for my fix.
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
If in honest i will probly goto ashran to pvp and really looking forward to it.

Honestly, I think that the city is what can save Cyrodill.

For the same reasons I think that PvP buffs should apply in PvE, high end PvE should be locked away behind AvA victories.
I also think that PvP arena could be implemented in a positive way if done as a part of the Imperial City.

If more people get a reason to actually win and hold on to territory, it means that campaigns will have a more natural flow to it.
Not to mention an actual sense of purpose and cooperation.
There is a higher rush when winning for a reward rather than fighting just for the sake of fighting.

And buffs campaigns should be sorted out too, as those that would use them for PvE would be "stuck" in the City, and wouldn't be available to react as quickly to counter attacks than now.

In short, to answer OP's question, I'm hyped for the reasons you are not interested.
Others have failed to unify PvE and PvP, but those that managed it were grandiose.

I would much prefer that they fix what they currently have already (i.e: server lag, pop imbalances, etc...) rather than the Imperial City.

Once Cyrodiil is working properly for the most part, then consider adding more content.

I really don't see the Imperial City changing how many people want to PvP. The content that is coming in it is cool and all, but people already don't PvE in Cyrodiil even though there are PvE quests. We might see an influx when it comes out, but I think a lot of those people will drop off after they see it. I hope I am wrong about that, but i'm not optimistic.

Plus I think a lot of the people looking for smaller scale PvP will go back to the Mega servers when the Justice system comes out since it will allow for PvP on the Mega servers.

We'll see how it goes though. I'm curious how many people are actually on the mega servers compared to the percentage that routinely plays on pvp servers. Maybe there is a massive PvE crowd playing.. but who knows? No way to tell since the Mega servers throw you into populated zones by design and ZOS doesn't release subscription figures.
