Where do you stand on class archetypes in ESO?

Despite appearances, this poll really is about archetypes, not about armor type balance.
How can you say this isn't a poll about armor balance when 4 of the 5 choices reference light armor and of those, three specifically mention armor balance?
    If armor types were balanced
If there is no definition of balance then that definition would be determined by the person responding to the poll which could mean a different definition for each person responding. What one person would consider balanced could be seen by another as being completely unbalanced.
If armor types were balanced, all of them would still be wearing light armor. Because I like it this way)
And the point of this option is what? If this were meant to be unbiased then it should have said "My characters (mostly) wear one type of armor. If armor types were balanced, all of them would be wearing that same armor type. Because I like it this way.)" Sorry, but you come off as sounding heavily biased against Light armor.
To me, this is yet just another poll that is heavily slanted to favor the bias of the OP.

I'm going to take a wild guess here and predict that the next poll will be an exact copy/paste of this one only replacing the word "armor" with the word "Weapon" and the word "Light" with "Destro Staff:.

I personally chose "Other (Option missing)".
In a game where any class can fill any role, my personal opinion is that the armor should be determined not by the class but rather by the role.
My personal preference would be that there would be better synergy between specific armor/weapon combinations :
Heavy armor: Tank role(Sword and board), Physical Melee DPS (2H)
Medium Armor: Physical Melee DPS (Dual Wield) Physical Ranged DPS (Bow)
Light Armor: Magical Ranged DPS/Healing (Staff)

Every class has 3 skill trees. I personally would find it nice if each class had one tree focused on Tanking, the second focused on Healing and the third focused on DPS. But again, that would be my personal preference, not saying it should or shouldn't be that way.

@Nightreaver‌ You should have read further than the part you quoted. The answer to your question lies therein.

According to many posts and comments on this forum, a part of the population only wears light armor because (they feel) it's the best choice for most valid builds.

Not adding the armor balance thing to the options would have meant a portion of the "my characters are not equipped according to archetypes" votes would have been false, in that some would like to follow the archetypes, but feel only LA is valid to wear, thereby scewing the results.

As this poll was about archetypes and not about balance, there will not be another poll on the subject with the focus on weapon types. At least not by me.

Of course I am biased towards my personal opinion, but I to my best to keep it out of poll texts and options. I save it for the comment section. FYI: If I ever play a sorcerer, she's gonna wear LA and wield a staff.

When I started pre-launch, My main was and still is a Sorcerer. I researched Light Armor, Heavy Armor and Staves. I started branching out slowly, taking up Medium Armor, Metal Weapons, and Bows/Shields.

I realized that the way I like to play isn't with boring light attacks using an occasional ability, it was using my abilities. I also realized I wasn't having fun with the clunky melee system where everything just kind of hits. You can't bob and weave and juke in and out like a pro boxer with a sword.

Besides, I could make the best Light Armor and Staff, but not much for the other armor and weapon types.

I alsowasn't having any fun sharing my Ability Bar with Roll Dodge/CC Break/Block.

Once I started using Caltrops, Retreating Maneuver, and a few other isolated things that cost Magicka, I never went back. I was happy having 1-2 Stamina Abilities on each bar for Support Abilities and the rest toward Magicka. I also enjoy playing all of my Characters the way I play my sorcerer.

I would consider using Melee/Archery if they didn't cost Stamina. Fighters Guild and someAvA abilities, I don't mind having a Stamina Cost even though its costly.

-I have a mage in heavy armor and sword&board setup, doing tanking and survivimg most batles without scratch

-I have fire mage out of Dragon night that has light armor and flame staff doing ranged/close quarter combat hybrid

-I have nightblade vampire with light/medium armor hybrid and lightning staff/ dagger doing both ranged magick and good old backstabbing.

I mostly try to fiy my rquipment to fit my characters BIO/Story.

My characters are all equipped according to their archetype.

That said, for most of them, their archetype has nothing to do with class.

My priest/healer is a nightblade. (in light & staff)
My ranger/archer is a sorc (in med w/ bow)

And as another poster suggested, there shouldn't have been "classes" in the first place.

    Aeratus wrote: »
In Elder Scrolls, the Sorc archetype is a heavy armor caster. So actually, 95% of sorcs are not following the archetype.

    Lol What?

You must not have played the single player TES games where most if not all the mages guild members were wearing light armor and carrying a staff.

    You're confusing mage with sorc.

I am a stubborn fool, and I will keep my characters equipped with what I really prefer, that is mostly Heavy (perhaps with the odd 2 Medium pieces added) plus 2-handers / 1-handed & shield.

I have done so in every game I have ever played, I have done so in all Elder Scrolls games since Arena, I have done the same here in ESO since day one, and this is what it will be until my last day in ESO. Whether it works or not.

I wanted to play a heavy armour wearing caster (as I did in TES) I'd have been willing to sacrifice movement speed/agility to do this.
However due to the way Zenimax have made armour/stats/gear it's implausible for me to play that effectively so I'm kinda forced to wear the stereotypical outfit for casters !

So far, I'm taking away four things from this poll:

    - Almost half the voters (44% right now) prefer to stick to the archetypes and despite the prevailing "light armor beats all" mood on the forums, only 9% or less dress in light armor even though they would prefer not doing so.

    - The attempt to make the poll's choices as varied and precise as I could has resulted in them being too complicated. Judging by the comments, a number of voters chose a different option than the one they described.

    - The option "Sometimes do, sometimes don't" was missing.

    - Bacon is tasty.

I pick my toons armor by their skill sets.. If my toon is magic based only - light armor skills are the way to go- some stealth and stamina builds get better bonus skills from med and heavy armor skills - I mix and match a lot :) .. But once i pick/ choose the armor skills, well then I go with what looks cute !! Like heavy armor for a female- ork cuiress definitely !! and can't beat deadric tall boots over med or light armor greaves ( too cute)! and nothing like showing a little tummy so for low lvl toons Bosmer light/med all the way ! My character is a DK with 5 heavy and 2 light since the skills are so magicka based, but I have always preferred playing a heavy armored character. I also don't like the looks of any spandex type armor for that matter.

I miss the one character that could learn all skills of the other TES games. Being able to change your skills and armor based on how i felt like playing at the time without re-rolling was awesome. If i wanted to be a thief while completing thieves guild quest i could choose skills that complemented that play style, the same goes for mage and fighter's guild.

I'm a completionist so maxing every skill was fun for me even if i didn't plan to ever use a particular skill. I like a character to be able to do everything, but not God-like powers, just well-rounded. I have over 10k saves on my main characters in morrowind, oblivion, and skyrim so i have a lot of time invested in my characters. Unfortunately, this will probably not be the case in ESO since i don't have access to the other 3 skill lines or 600 skillpoints.

I don't like the archetypes and how they are presented.

I'm a Nightblade and I'd like to use heavy armor, absolutely no sneaking, and 1h/s and 2h.
So if armor was balanced, that's what I'd use.

They shouldn't have gone for archetypes at all. Classes, yes, but not archetypes, they should be blank.

I think Templars in dresses would be justifiably archetypical, as long as they fulfill the role of Priest. Being the only class with a dedicated healing tree, they also fulfill that role best.

Light armor because annoyingly attributes are not imbued within armor pieces, but learned as skills to go with armor weight classes, otherwise you could be a healer Templar in healing-relevant attribute loaded heavy armor.

Which isn't news to anybody, I just felt the need to write it down.

Although I enjoy playing tank type characters in MMOs, I also sometimes don't like the idea of pigeonholing an armored character with a sword and shield into a 'tank' role. Soldiers with shields existed as fighters with deadly mortal weapons, just as any other weapon.
