Lost a skill point for nothing - beware!

Having mastered clothing and blacksmithing to level 50 with all skill point options chosen i went to the page anyway and noticed the metallurgy had 3 of 4 with the option to allocate a skill point there. I didn’t think anything of it and used a skill point there - so I should of have had the option to add one more item to research for a total of 3. Well I already had three items researching and that’s when I realized a bug had me waste a skill point. I checked my clothing line and there I also had 3 of 4 for stitching showing - this time I did not allocate any skill points there and when I checked my research for that skill I did have the maxed out skill of researching 3 items at once along with the reduction of research time for that level.

I want my skill point back! I can deal with tall the other bugs and mishaps but this one really pissed me off! What would cause the skills to show 3 of 4 when I had all 4 of them to begin with. I want an explanation as well.

    The 4th level doesn't allow an extra item to be researched. It simply caps your research time to 30 days. This was in the last patch (1.4) to accommodate the Nirnhoned trait.

    Also, if you want that point back you can always pay for a re-spec at a chapel.
    If she doesn't know the pain of cliffracers, she's too young for you.

    4th point doesn't give a slot, it only caps the research time, I think to 60 hours.

    If you want your point back, respec.

    It also increases the time discount if I recall correctly from 15% to 20%

    It reduces research time by another 5% (25% at 4/4 and 20% at 3/4) and also caps max research time at 30 days.

    Research for the 9th trait is 52 days without it.

    The tool tip is quite clear before choosing this skill that it gives you 3 items slots to research, and a 25% time reduction.

    However, I am glad I took it, even if I have no desire to research Nirnhorned (all my toons are at or close to the Magic Resist Soft Cap anyway)

    It's not taking me 32 days to research an item for the 8th trait, it only takes 24 days with the 4th Level. 12 days instead of 16 for the 7th trait. Well worth a Skill Point to spend on that.

    Yes, I do wish we would get to research 4 items at the 4th level.

    It reads the skill description for the next level before it puts another point in it.....

    I'm confused, exactly what is the bug that you are complaining about?

    Rank 1 adds a slot (to 2)
    Rank 3 adds a slot (to 3)
    Rank 2 doesn't
    Rank 4 doesn't

    All 4 ranks decrease the time it takes to research, with the 4th rank putting a hard cap on the time. Wherein lies the bug? Heck, it seems completely consistent. Now, *if* they add a rank 5, that doesn't add a slot, that might be a bit peculiar. (though I'd argue 3 slots is probably enough)

    That is 4 skill points to reduce the 8th trait from 32 days to 24 days. Putting that single point in the new Rank IV just reduces from 25.6 days to 24 days.

    Then I will take out the skill point and add it back to the pile of skill points that I have not used yet.....
