Remember this opening? How could anyone listen to this and not be ready to crush skulls?

We get this...

Oblivion and Morrowind for reference

I'm not hearing the problem. They both sound like the game that they belong to respectively.
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
they need to work on the music more, its a bit looped.

I don't hear a problem either. Matter of opinion, but I actually like the ESO theme more.

Of all the things in this game that need work... music is the least.

It's quality so it's a taste issue. It suits me fine.

I think it's a kinder gentler game now than it was.

Yea I have no problem with music. I have a very talented orchestra trained musician friend who found it to be excellent.

@david271749‌, only because there are no choir of drunken nords in the ESO main theme, that doesn't mean this song is bad or not too epic. I like all ES music.

Has anyone noticed that they are all the same song (the same "theme") but different versions? ;)
I love them all in a different way, and I think they all match the games in which they are the main title.

But.. I really, really would love to listen to Jeremy Soule's "soul" in ESO; when I think back of Skyrim, there were times I was literally speechless and overwhelmed by his incredible compositions.
Even when I just remember (not actually listen to it right now) f.e. "Beneath The Ice", I get goosebumps and can't speak anymore because it's so fantastic, not from this world.. (For the ones who don't know which piece that is, it's the one that's playing in ice caves).
I've had some of my best musical experiences while listening to the Skyrim soundtrack and even still afterwards when it was over again.

In ESO I miss this feeling...
Venus Ocean - Breton Sorceress VR16, EP, Tamriel Hero | Gixia - Breton Sorceress VR16, EP, Tamriel Hero
Frances Demnevanni - Breton Dragonknight VR16, EP, Tamriel Hero | Raygee - Breton Nightblade VR16, EP, Tamriel Hero
Lady Olivieri - Breton Nightblade VR16, EP, Tamriel Hero | Donna Demnevanni - Breton Templar VR16, DC, Tamriel Hero
Elaine Benes - Breton Templar VR16, EP | Ray McCluck - Breton Sorcerer VR16, EP
Moonshadow Demnevanni - Dunmer Dragonknight Lvl 50, EP | Jamie Stacey - Redguard Templar Lvl 50, EP
Caia Cosades - Imperial Nightblade, EP

I thought the main theme was fine.

Game needs more in game music though. There doesn't seem to be a huge variety, and even most of whats there isn't as good as the Skyrim soundtrack.

OH well, I guess theres nothing stopping you from putting the games music to zero and streaming skyrim soundtrack or whatever.

Would be neat if they could play Skyrim soundtrack in Skyrim zones, Morrowind in Morrwind zones etc. Of course most the game would need an OST still.

Jeremy Soule's soundtrack for Skyrim absolutely had a more epic feel to it. Now he also did the opening theme for ESO, but the balance of the soundtrack falls a bit flat.

One poster mentioned how the opening Skyrim theme wants to make you run out and crush skulls - a good composition can do that. Listen to Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky some time and tell me it doesn't make you want to run out and impale some Germans.

(No offense, Germans, but that was pretty much the message Prokofiev was driving at.)

On the other hand, the soundtrack is now a done deal, and I'd rather they didn't spend any time or resources messing with it now. I'd rather see new stuff. And I will say this; on the voice actors, they absolutely hit it in the ten ring. I can listen to Kate Beckinsale all night. Whoooo.

I like the main theme for eso. I did like Skyrims better though, but that's just my taste in music. I preferred the ambient music in Oblivion over most others also. I do wish eso had more music in it to be honest.

For a bit of fun listen to all four themes at the same time :)

I will admit there are no songs in ESO which made me stop everything I was doing and just listen. Skyrim had such tracks. Still, I don't have a problem with music in ESO, I think it's quite fine and blends well with the atmosphere of the game.

I'd redo the bard songs though. More life, more power, most of them are so slow and lifeless...

That's kind of my only problem with it. It is well done music but often a bit out of place imo. After one patch I experienced monks chanting during a keep siege. Just didn't fit.

In ESO's setting with the alliance war and fight against Molag Bal (or other combat) I would prefer some heavier handed, dramatic, dark stuff with a sense (or tone) of danger. Overall the music is too light in a lot of situations. Still very well done though.

I usually have the Oblivion soundtrack playing in the background. I keep it consistent too, so I have town music in twins, cave music in dungeons and atmosphere while out in the world. It's my favorite of the TES soundtracks.

I like ESO music a lot but it starts to feel redundant. I wish there were some more tracks.
  • davidjournotb16_ESO
I like the music in ESO very much, but I also feel it kind of becomes boring what is completly normal after hearing it for 6 months.

I wish we could sometimes hear the music from previous elder scrolls. If it happens rarely enough it would be very fun to recognize them.

I also wish there are more drums during epic battles, but I quibble ^^.

I think the music's great. Obviously more of it would be good still.

Soule did do the theme for ESO but other artists (Rick Schaffer is one but I forget the other) worked on the rest of the music.

So glad the awful imposing dramatic music is removed from the login screen, great track, completely inappropriate placement/usage.

The only thing I wouldn't mind a little less of is hearing Red Diamond when hitting a tavern. But overall, I have no complaints about the music in ESO. It's subtle in a lot of areas, which is good for long term playing. Personally, I like Oblivion's soundtrack more than Skyrim's.

I suppose "Red Diamond" is ESO's equivalent of "Ragnar the Red"... XD

In Skyrim and ESO, I've been so sick of both those songs that I would have cheerfully downloaded a mod that replaced them both with a track of my four-year-old grandson singing the "Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts" song.

(And no, I have no idea who taught him that song. **Looks innocently skyward.**)
