Why is medium armor crafting punished?

I always collect everything I find whether it be metal, cloth, wood or leather scraps. Out of the three armor crafting resources, leather is always the least amount. However, you only need enough leather to craft armor because you can use cloth to level the profession.

Typically, I will get far more leather by deconstructing leather armor than I will from animals.

Relying on hirelings for ANY crafting material is a slap in the face (*cough* Provisioning *cough*).

Apart from Provisioning and Nirnhoned stones, my Hirelings have taken care of all my crafting needs. Just level up the hireling(s) in advance of the character.
Opinions are like buttholes : Everybody has one, and they usually stink.

    3 things to reduce stamina/magicka imbalance :
    - Use magicka to block abilities costing magicka, instead of stamina.
    - Add % damage reduction to heavy armor.
    - Add block penetration to 2H.

Trying to get scraps for new medium armor is a chore - hide scraps will only be dropped according to your maximum wearable level or according to the level of the creature, which ever is lower.

So, you can take a level 10 to Craglorn and farm Vet 9+ cloth and ore nodes all day long; but if you were to somehow kill any of the creatures there, the best scraps they would drop would be Rawhide. This means that one cannot as effectively farm as they play in anticipation of the next level crossover for medium armor. The player must then actively farm on a higher level character or be forced to wade through creatures in lower leveled armor.

Then there is the fact that dropped scraps are RNG based and only ever 1 or 2 from creatures that drop them. Sometimes you'll get junk hides, sometimes you'll get nothing - this never happens with ore nodes and rarely happens (if someone leaves the fish bait) on cloth nodes.

So why does zenimax hate medium armor?

First: you can't take a level 10 to craglorn you can only take a v1-v14 to craglorn.

Second: Craglorn isn't even the best place to farm. It requires 4 people to do anything there.. Unless you're a DK or a Sorc.

Third: You can't plan a next character without first having a higher leveled character.
