Dk tank ultimate gain

What is the best way to gain ultimate as a heavy armor, S & B, Dk tank?
Primarily during single target boss fights. I find that I normally can only cast my ultimate from having it saved up from previous trash pulls. I'm hoping that I am just doing something wrong and thanks in advance for the responses!

Nope, unless you are fighting undead or daedra with the fighter's guild passive, that's pretty normal. You can use the earthen heart skill line to build it up again in long fights, but one of the downsides of great survivability as a tank is a slow road to ultimate gain. That said, it usually only takes about 5 mobs for me to renew my ultimate, and honestly, it rarely is necessary for me to drop a second ultimate in a boss fight, even against world bosses/public dungeon bosses. I soloed everything all through V10 areas, and had no trouble as a tank dk.

Yep, tank DK's are beasts. I took my v2 DK (wearing v1 blue armor) to craglorn once just for fun, and have been able to solo the v11 mob packs there NP. (hist bark set, 3x block enchants, cinder storm)

That is the upside to the dk tank, I agree. It takes a lot of ammo to kill us. :)
Thanks for the quick replies and I will happily keep trudging along

Ahem... if you have a resto staff handy and there are other players around, pop magelight on and spam heals - every time you get spell crit on healing you charge your ultimate a bit, so it works better if you have as high spell crit chance as possible.

As a tank, you could go werewolf for the ultimate points when you take damage. Then keep your werewolf ultimate on your tank bar, and the ultimate you want to use on your utility bar.

While this does work, it's not practical as a tank in a boss fight. And certainly not if he is soloing

This is a good idea, but then there are fights with poison, and a poison resist ring might not be the route you want to go if it means losing armor or SR rings.

The only way you could do this on a boss fight is if you had another tank to pull the boss off you while you did this, AND with H Armor set, you're not gonna have spell crit, so I would say "No" to this.

TBH, there isn't any way to build Ultimate fast enough as a H armor DK Tank, or any H Armor Tank. It's best to use it wisely cause for most parts, you'll only get one shot.

As for this, I believe they need to add an addition passive to 5/5 set H Armor, like maybe while blocking too, gain additional Ultimate per piece of item you have after 5/5. (This is just an idea, don't take me too seriously)

I am a Templar Tank, not Dragonknight, but it seems like gaining ultimate is extremely slow for all tanks. Healers gain ultimate for healing, damage dealers gain ultimate for damaging, not sure why tanks do not gain ultimate for tanking.

Hardly, it's not enough, not when healers and dps can pop 3-5 Ultimates during a fight and tanks can only pop 1

Usually a well placed standard is all you need (or magma armor).

But if you want to gain more ultimate I suggest looking into becoming a werewolf. There is a passive, when maxed, grants 5 ultimate every time you are hit and can occur every 4 seconds. So all you have to do is block and it will help gain ultimate over time.

I haven't done it on my DK, but my NB WW tank uses sap essence while blocking which lets me drop a veil almost every mob.

    False!

Let me introduce you to my siphoning NB WW tank. Sap Essence + WW passive allows me to get a Veil almost every single trash pull. When It comes to a boss I swap over to Crippling grasp and funnel health. Every crippling grasp tick I gain ultimate, And I never run out of resources due to leeching strikes.

    NB = best tanks.
