I have played an Imperial Templar from pre-release through vr14. Started with two-handed sword, picked up bow at around level 11, dropped the sword at level 37 (and never went back) and picked up destruction and restoration staffs. My bow is my main weapon, with destro second. Both are level 50, and resto (started late) is at level 24.

On the PTS server, I created a mirror Imperial Templar with bow, destro and resto, then tested every single skill and ultimate, including the world, guild and alliance war skills. There is no single set of skills per bar that works for all situations, at least not with Templar.

I've soloed about 90% of all quests and a lot of other content, slogging through the period when Templar was considered by far the weakest class in the game. (It's improved a lot the last couple of big updates.) The one thing I've learned about Templar is that it is designed as kind of a jack-of-all-trades, specialist in none, and is best played that way. In my experience, Templar is actually better at DPS than healing, even though Templar has that good healing skill tree.

For me, keeping a balance between magicka and stamina pools, and using both stamina and magicka-based skills on each bar, allows my Templar to handle a lot solo, and to be a very useful addition in group play.

When my Templar reached vr12, I began leveling a Breton Sorcerer through the same Aldmeri Dominion faction that my Templar is in. I've found that almost all the content the Templar struggled with, especially in the 1-50 levels, the Sorcerer breezed through with little trouble. The Sorcerer is currently sitting at vr3 while the Templar continues through the Daggerfall Covenant zones.

DKs are the best and after many nerfs continue to be, if that is your definition of OP than ya, and only DK players don't think DKs are powerful....it takes less skill to be good with them.

I've had a really good time with my new Templar ( level 30 now ). Templar is really strong in PVE to level with and against similar level opponents in PVP too. I don't have a DK myself, but I assume that if you have to choose between DK and Templar, you can't really choose wrong. Both are solid classes.

The organic interface selected by the toon is the most important part

And OMG learn to block, it gets said often but at low levels everything is a breeze, hit vet and block is your constant friend and only thing stopping insanity.
