I also read somewhere (road ahead letter maybe) that there are some combat improvements coming in update 5.
I hope by PvP improvements they mean fixing the bad responsiveness of combat, Zergballing, CC race fest, Lag and Population Balance.
And, no word about class balance?

I am eagerly anticipating the WW improvements. I've lost most of my interest in PvP, given how broken the mechanics (and the players) have been. So I've been leveling an alt WW in PvE, prepping my main toon for the VR cap increase. Werewolves are only fun to play in PvE due to their limited abilities, so maybe with some sweet new moves, they'll finally be viable to play in PvP, as well.

Also, are we absolutely certain these are the actual Update 5 goals, and is this an "up to and including" type of list? That is to say, Update 5 will have more than just what's been suggested above, right?

The footage from the QuakeCon panel suggested over "the next several updates" that we'd be seeing Spell Crafting, the Justice System, and the Champion System -- I took that to mean Update 3 through Update 6, at the time. I would hope at least one of these three things (Justice, Champion, or Spell Crafting) would make it into Update 5, if the goals suggested at QuakeCon are still priorities for this year. That's not even mentioning the Imperial City content... I'm very curious about ZOS's slated timetable for releasing all of these features and content.

Honestly, I'll be sorely disappointed if the panel at next year's QuakeCon is still baiting us with the same promises.

Considering pvp has yet to get any new content, it would be nice if those fixes were extensive and close to an overhaul.

It's interesting to note that some of these made it in ahead of schedule.
Lower WW cost and Stamina return, for example.

They need to get the champion system out as soon as possible.

Some PvP content will help. I mean adding duel should be simple enough and can absorb quite a bit of play time.

Is Imperial City in Update 5? This game REALLY needs new pvp content badly.

    Agree.

So many players like myself are hanging on because of the awesome PvP...but it's getting a little stale. I have completely lost interest in group PvE because it's either completely unrewarding or insanely hard or both.

I'd like some meaningful solo PvE content too.

    Bosmer (Wood Elf)
Moonlight Crew (RIP), Misfitz (RIP), Victorem Guild

VR16 NB, Stam build, Max all crafts.

Azuras & Trueflame. Mostly PvP, No alts.

Semi-retired till the lag is fixed.

Love the Packers, Bourbon, and ESO...one of those will eventually kill me.

[*] Stamina updates: Heavy attacks with all non-staff weapons now return stamina. More improvements to follow.
    ...

This seems like a lazy way for the dev to give players better stamina

This is just my feeling , but it is counter intuitive for a heavy attack to give you stamina...if anything it should cost you stamina. Wouldn't it make more sense to modify the passives in the Medium armor to give a reduction in the cost of stamina, and Heavy armor further give reductions for blocking.

Exactly my thoughts. How can making a heavy swing generate stamina? It's knee jerk development.

Maybe they are looking at Stamina as Adrenalin? the more you swing something heavy the more your adrenalin kicks in to keep you going - so you are building your stamina for your next swings etc..

Just a thought, I will get back in my box now.... :)

Sorry for double post I'm typing from my mobile.
Before bringing champion system they definitely need to sort exploit grinding bosses in Craglorn, that's for sure.

Well, in that case you missunderstood something. They also mentioned, that we can't expect any of it within the first four updates. So this made update 5 the first possible moment for any of it.
What we will see, is the change from veteran points to experience points regarding veteran ranks. But it will take another several months, until the champion system will be complete.
The imperial city will be the next zone, that we will get. It might be available with update 6, maybe 7.
As far as I understood the devs, we will get the Imperial city before the justice system and definitely before spell crafting or before the champion system ist completely in the game.
Everything else will still need more time.

Well, at least the stam return probably was "low hanging fruit" in that it probably was a relatively easy mechanic to implement with relatively large impact to the game, compared to stuff that entails redesign of entire system and creating completely new mechanics.

I wouldn't mind if they did more of those occasionally (stamina skill buffs, I'm looking at you there).

If anything they should substantially increase heavy attack damage with all no staff weapons and make them cost stamina.

Zenimax needs to work on the PvP. A lot of good players have left because of the lack of endgame and a stagnant PvP. Add things like siege towers and ladders to the mix. Also consolidate the campaigns into one campaign.

As I understand, most of these things are supposed to happen before Update 5 as patches.

I am curious about the stamina solution. In previous games heavy attacks cost stamina. This doesn't really make sense. They should split off the utilities (dodge roll, sprinting, sneaking, etc.) in some way or make the stamina pool bigger than doing something creative like this that removes the game from the franchise. I am not sold.

Yeah I totally agree they made everything you do almost stamina based, but why not make something like teleporting or resurrecting magicka based also damn, why roll dodge sprinting sneaking is all stamina consmption but nothing similar is not happening to magicka?Really think of this cause it's not fair people with magicka focus dps are not losing it on things like sprinting and sneaking, just makes no sense o.O

All characters can sneak, roll and sprint, including mages. So it makes sense it would cost them too, how is this not balanced? Every character should have a stam and a magic attack when one is low. However, what isn't balanced is who does more damage than the other.

White full attacks should generate stam as white staff attacks should generate magic. Something needs to be there that to build it during long fights. This makes sense to me.

You're totally right. It is completely counter-intuitive.

I could be misreading the pattern of changes but it seems to me like they're trying to equalize resource return across classes and this mechanic is a good way to do it which is already well established in the gaming industry.
Wouldn't it make more sense to modify the passives in the Medium armor to give a reduction in the cost of stamina, and Heavy armor further give reductions for blocking.

Both sensible suggestions. If I had to guess I'd say they're not doing that because a big part of the game's at least theoretical appeal is freedom to build your character any which way you want.

Having resource regeneration tied completely to armour means severely limits that freedom. Not so much in general solo PvE where fights can be over in seconds and you don't even hit 0 for any of your resources. But it would in more sustained forms of combat play like group content and PvP.
