How the champion system would not be a grinding system?

davidjournotb16_ESO
Hello everyone,

This question may have already been asked, but I can't find any response.

I know the champion system will replace veteran ranks in a few months, and champion points will replace veteran points. What most people hated about veteran ranks is its grindy aspect, in a way we felt like it was another leveling after the 1-50 leveling. How will the champion system be different, apart the fact that it will be more rewarding in terms of character advancement?

Imho, the best idea to make the champion system not grindy is to copy the leveling system of Camelot Unchained. It has been announced that players won't get any instant XP for killing a monster, completing a quest or taking a keep. XP will be distributed to every players once per day (probably in the middle of the night), and the amount of xp received will depend on what the player have done during the day for the realm and on how the realm succeded, but we will never know the exact calculation. In that way it dissuades players to do repetitive actions to feed their XP bar.

What is your opinion on it?

    Won't work here, because:

    1. We have no Realm. We have several instanced PvP Zones (Which is in my view a major Issue for the coming Imp. City. Cause it is most likely that we will have 3 unfought Campains when it release)

    2. Camelot Unchained will have no PvE, there for it will only give out XP from PvP.

    3. You will always know what is giving the most XP. You will just need a week of exploration. With every day only doing the same for 1 hour. Than you know what made the most XP of activities.

If the calculation system is well fuzzed and encourages the diversity of activities we will never see an activity that gives more XP than another.

Well right off the top from what I have read and seen in the developer videos - the champion system is not replacing veteran ranks. It is going to be an added feature.
Unless of course there is some new information somewhere that I am missing.

There have been reports both ways. From what I gather is everyone will cap at 50 and vet levels would be replaced with champ levels so its the same thing but called something different. But it will take less to get and you get a passive per level.

So from what I gather it will replace the need to do the other faction quests and Craglorn would be level 50. Technically. And if vet levels don't go anywhere they may just be used as gear levels rather than character levels. Until further announcement and implementation no one knows exactly but it should make it to where you don't have a set path and can run your character in different ways and still being able to get xp no matter how you choose to play.

My only concern about the Champion System is how when it is implemented I will be missing points other players have, simply because right now I would rather play an end-game main in PvP instead of leveling extra characters through Veteran ranks over again.

Additional punishment for sticking with my Nightblade since Early Access rather than rerolling.
    meh.

It has been said that the champion system is account wide, so the advantages you get through it are available for all of your characters.

@ ers101284b14_ESO Thanks for the info. I guess we all really will not know for sure until it is implemented. Until then people can only speculate. I hope its as good as it sounds.

I have also seen mention that when the system goes live, it will provide increased starting points to all characters based on the existing Veteran characters on the account.

As I play one main character instead of a legion of Veteran rank alts, my single character will have less points than any single character on an account with 4+ existing Veteran characters now.
My single character will have less progression, because I spent more time on it.

Yeah same here. I mean I can speculate and see what they said but until it goes live I won't know. I think it's going to be awesome though.

My single character will have less progression, because I spent more time on it.

On the other hand, I am levelling 2 characters and have limited play time available due to RL. I have yet to hit VR on either despite being here since early release. If I had been playing only 1 character I'd probably be somewhere around VR6 or so by now, so I've got less progression since I have multiple characters.

So to me it doesn't look like it punishes players one way or the other.

I comprehend and respect where you are coming from. Limited play time can hamper progression in general.

My single character has spent plenty of time actively played while sitting at level cap before this update, and will continue to be actively played sitting at VR14 until Champion System comes though.
With the time /played on the character, I could have leveled 3-4 other characters to level cap. I chose not to as I am not interested in alts, nor am I interested in rerolling.
Since I focus on a single character, I will apparently miss out on the bonuses to that character that I would receive if I had decided to invest time in other characters instead.

It just does not make a lot of sense to me that my character will lag behind in progression due to spending more time on it.
If I spent less time playing the character I am most interested in playing, that character would be further ahead after the system is implemented.

I am hoping the system will account for such scenarios, but only time will tell.
