Help with picking a different class?

I posted this on another forum but no advice so I'm hoping that the people here might have better insight (being the main forums and all). Additionally, I hope this is the correct forum for this post:

So when the game launched I picked Templar as it was closer to the character I play in the Elder Scrolls games.

However, I don't really want to play a tank in groups and would prefer a melee damage dealer.

I tried Dragon Knight (didn't get it that high as of yet) but I'm still not doing so well on damage.

Can anyone give me some advice on the Dragon Knight at higher levels? Can it do better damage and be considered a melee damage dealer? Any idea on decent builds?

Has anyone played a Templar in more of a damage dealing role (again, any suggestions for decent builds)? Though I suspect that when one joins a group as a templar one is expected to tank/heal.

Any other thoughts that could possible create a melee damage dealer? Though I would prefer heavy armor I'm sort of "getting" that medium armor really is the way to go for melee/stamina.

I suppose in the end I don't want to bring another class into the higher levels and be disappointed again.

Especially because this is a quest based game and doing the same quest lines over several times in such a short span of time will be tiring.

NB is best for stam, with weapon buffs and stam regen passives and abilities

i tried templer, sorc to vet 10 then tried DK, ditched that at lvl 15 and settled on NB because its the best melee class and its very fun despite its bad reputation you should try it.

While I do love my stam NB about would agree that it synergizes really well, I don't think its due to the reasons you listed considering DKs have igneous weapon for a flat buff to weapon damage as well as access to green dragon blood for self heal and stam recovery. Sorcs even have a flat weapon damage buff that heals on crit too.
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
yeah but nbs have i think 40% more stam regen than DK and sorcs stam is basically none existent so if you want to avoid heavy attacks to regen and keep hit your abilities then stam regen i would think is best ? then you can also focus drinks/points in other passives. I also say nbs because he prefers to play in heavy, stam regen i guess matters here most ? and again sorcs have none and nbs get 40% more than DKs.

maybe im missing something if i am id love to know.

and weapon dmg is very easy to cap with mundus stone and momentum from 2h tree.

I thought only Medium helped stamina regen? Is that not the case any more?

Has anyone played both NB and Dragon night to higher levels? Essentially my "hope" is to be a melee damage dealer. I'd love to be in heavy but at the start of the game some people recognized that Heavy had issues.

  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
oh i cant believe i forgot siphoning attacks..

iyou can weave light attacks and abilities which will gain you 3% stam and magika back every light hit, i think you can cap weapon dmg and use siphoning attacks or close enough, siphon also has a 10% to restore 15% stam and magika back.

You can also morph it to grant 2% health which is cool for heavy being all up in thier face,

or morph it for all attacks to grant 10% change for 15% stam and magika back instead of just light and heavy attacks.

medium grants stam regen but nbs passive grants 30%

    haste morph provides additional 40%

siphoning attacks provides 3% stam on light and heavy

but anyone can get stam back on heavy attacks

i only have sorc, temp and nb at vet 10

i dint lvl the dk because its best skills are magika based and its not got anywhere near the stam return as nb.

huh. Well this is an eye opener. Especially because I never considered a Night Blade.

thanks all, of course I'd be more than willing to read other opinions and comments. But I think I'll make a Night Blade and experiment a bit.
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
haste and siphoning attacks in quite some way down the tree, so you wont notice a how much stam return its capable of untill your high enough i think lvl 30 ish.

untill then pick a race with stam passives?, you get the nb regen passive quite early in shadow tree and use heavy attacks to restore stam, dnt forget that wrecking blow increases next attack so maybe wrecking blow/heavy attack would work well, untill you the the nb stam goodies later down the tree.
  • Sovrath
    Sovrath
    Well, thank you!
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
and fighter guild ulti morph (passively) all the time while slotted

grants 13% extra dmg on weapons and this is will apply even if your capped on weapon dmg.
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
    also lol

crit you cant get on heavy, but if you use haste morph to gain stam you will get crit from just having it on your bar from passive,

you can also get crit on weapons and mudus stone

i have about 15% crit in heavy using 4 abilites form 2h and 1 nb abilitiy /haste morph - 40% stam regen.

nbs also uniquely gain 10% extra dmg when they crit :P

and when nbs use potions the effect is increased by 30%
  • Sovrath
    Sovrath
So can you go all heavy or should some medium be added?
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
and if you open with a stealth attack you will get 10% extra dmg and 100% stun duration as a nb, there are more things but i think this is perhaps enough to convince you :P
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
you can go all heavy if perfectly fine actually

i use all heavy and with all the passives i dnt really have any stam issues

but there is alot of people that would call you a noob,

my advice try it for your self but give it a good chance, you have to have all the passives to see how effective it really is and that requires lvling and preserving till you have them.

maybe 5 heavy and 2 medium while you lvl ? untill you get passives ?
  • Sovrath
    Sovrath
    Thanks!
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
duel wield bumps up the crit by 10%

all heavy here and in duel wield have 25% with no pvp bonuses and thats without crit on the weapons,

if i had crit on them i think it would goto about 37%

only vet 10 so maybe even 40% ish at vet 14?

try to get a good pvp home campaign, lots good bonuses ^^
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
heavy armor passives also increase dmg done with weapons and restores a little resources
  • Sovrath
    Sovrath
All good advice, thank you. I've never liked the look of duel wield "but" I'd be more than happy to try it.

I looked over the thread but didn't see (or missed) second weapon. Do you use a bow? Healing staff? Just maximize your duel wield or 2 hander skills?
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
you will probs really like the ultimate death stoke from assassination tree,

its not like a normal ulti, it charges that fast its basically an additional attack on your action bar, does great dmg and can be used at least once per enemy.
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
you will get death stoke pretty much right away.

    2nd weapon ?

you can have any really, i mean i use all kinds of set up for the 2nd bar.

some other weapon would be best like a bow/duel/2h

for sticky situations tank setup is good, specially cos your already in heavy and infinite block with nb,

also if you use sap essence with it, does quite good aoe dmg and gives you and allies and aoe heals per enemy hit,

it uses magika but siphoning attacks restores magika too and you can light attack and block so fast that you get the 3% from the hit and are still blocking ^^
and maybe even 15% back if it procs

bow works great too, for those boss fight that require ranged and for killing spell casters and healers, venom arrow morph interrupts and sets them off balance.

  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
sap essence also increases weapon dmg by 6% for each enemy hit and heals an additional 20% for each enemy hit

soul tether is a huge heal over time and and aoe stun and one of those enemies will get a big dot on them, its an ultimate, its good, and if you use the 2h skill carve, its charges the ulti ridiculously fast.

All good information, thank you. Now I can't wait until I get off of work!
  • DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
    nps,

    just have fun

dnt let people tell you how to play and dnt listen to the bad reputation of nightblades, they are very good and very fun.

I tend to respond well to how good/bad the results are.

This is why I was at a loss as I wasn't seeing good results with the templar or the dragon knight next to other players. I like my templar but in all honesty I just don't have the temperament to be a tank in pickup groups.

I do like the visceral feeling of melee.

*Plays a 2H and Bow Templar*

*Finally hit the 900-1k DPS Mark*

*Mostly enchanted for Magicka, but makes rampant use of sword*

So yea dude, it's possible to DPS as a Templar now just use only a few of your skills from the class itself and make amazing use of your weapons. The other dy I met a DW Templar and she wiped the freaking floor with me.
Bobbity Boop, this game might become poop, but I'll still play because I'm just a pile of goop!

Just from a scan of the thread, DK burniness helps loads with melee DPS. Unstable Flame, Flame Lash etc.

One thing I cannot emphasize enough though is to get into PTS, and run a few templates. You get to play with all the abilities at endgame to see how they handle. Saved me a lot of wasted time going for abilities that didn't do what I thought they would. Saved tons of money on respecs too.

yeah pts is a good idea

you can enchant your gear with magika and use class abilities but its bad regen

i think the idea was he want to wear heavy armor and use stam abilities, but heavy doesnt give stam regen

but with a nb you can wear heavy and have good stam regen and good stam return.

If it's stam regen you're worried about, 2H weapons give back stamina on fully charged heavy attacks, which was woven in with basic attacks at times, so in theory you could pull off wearing full heavy and doing a stam build now

Can you be a bit more specific? Certain skills, armor, etc? Thanks.

I'm open to trying any and all suggestions, classes, etc.
