DC. You get the perk of being in the best faction!

It depends on if you bought the Explorers version or not. If it allows you to pick any race and start anywhere, You have a choice to make, (...err pick AD ). If you can't choose where you want to start, then just pick based on the race you want to play.

DC, you get to be of the same faction as I. Enough said.

AD>DC>>>>>>>>>>EP.

I prefer the AD quests , but DC is a close second , quite cool regions and quests also.

Now EP ... EP is just plain bad in my opinion.

I'm an assassin, i don't have an allegiance.
Still the dominion has nice beaches and jungles, nice place to take a break.

Speaking of Khajiit parties, In Reapers March AD, we have an on going skooma fueled bash at the Thormar ruins. Lots of friendly faces, many treats, some tricks. All this can be yours, simply join team AD

@Dagoroth - First off, welcome! While I agree to some extent that selecting a faction should technically not matter, it does in some aspects of the game.

I recommend this because you may wish to join a guild that is welcoming new players and will help you out on your journey! Banding together with friends while questing or even just having some guild chat / or voice chat while playing can be much more enjoyable. It will allow you to ask questions and get familiar . So check out the guilds recruiting and maybe give that some consideration when making a character. Keep in mind while you can communicate cross-faction in a guild, you can't play together. So if you're Aldmeri Dominion and I'm Ebonheart we could talk to each other, but not play together (questing/PvP)

I think those two would be my top two recommendations when considering what faction to play. There are certainly many other considerations, so if you have questions let us know! Good luck and welcome again.

I've played them all and still like DC the best. Though I wouldn't mind if Eastmarch and the Rift were added to it

Dominion is all for elven supremacy; whether this entails blatant suppression of the men races is up for debate but the Queen of the alliance seems to like the idea of 'general equality' among all of the races.

Pact is with for men supremacy or just plain independence. It seems they mostly just don't want to be under the boot of either the dominion or the covenant. I'm not too sure.

Covenant claims to want to throne for the betterment of Tamriel in the sense that they will bring economic prosperity and a large amount of continental treaties. A more diplomatic and materialistic faction that has little emphasis on debated morals like the dominion and pact who mainly fight for ideals.

Honestly, one of the better aspects of this game is that the concepts of "good" and "evil" are not so clear cut. It is up to you to decide your personal reason for choosing anything.

Well, considering that the main AD storyline has you actively fighting against elven supremacists...

But ya OP, each faction offers a different perspective. Do a bit of research into each ones philosophy.

(Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression that faction population correlates with when each single player game was released. EP being the lowest with 2 of the last 3 games set in its territory, and AD with the most, with no games exclusive to its territory.

so there is only one option

Having played through Cadwell's Silver and partway through Gold (currently I'm in Stormhaven, DC), I think Khenarthi's Roost and Auridon (in AD) are great places to start out. To me the landscape was very appealing and I enjoyed the quests there quite a bit. DC, with Stros M'kai, that other island, and Glenumbra, are a close second however. EP was alright, but the landscape is pretty bleak. It has it's own beauty of course, but I much prefer the lush greenery of the elven lands.
