Update 1.4 - Are custom settings really overwritten?

I won't be able to log in until tonight, but I'd like to prevent problems for myself if possible.

Been reading a lot that people have lost their default settings.

Which ones? Keybindings? All other custom settings--like your chat window preferences and graphic/sound/gameplay ones?

Can someone tell us which file(s) to backup before updating if they are client side?

And... does the settings overwrite happen with the download, or with character log in?

Yeah. Not exactly a new thing. All Keybinds get set back to default. This has been happening since the first update. Surprised I'm the only one who noticed it before now. All of your add ons will be disabled and all keybindings will be back to default. This has happened after every update in this game and other MMO's I have played. Not sure how its surprising.

None of the other updates did this, so if you are having that problem it is specific to you. Hence no one complaining until now.

Nor has this happened in patches in other games for me personally.

It's happened in every single update for me on in this game. On FF14, SWTOR, and GW2. Though GW2 and SWTOR I didn't play nearly as long so that would have been like twice a piece. But yeah every update has set my Add ons to be off and my keybindings back to default. I never backed up my personal settings so not sure if that matters.

updates do set your addons to be off because it unchecks the use outdated addons setting. (this is probably for the best)

Hmm, It -shouldn't- have set your keybindings back to default though. Are you perchance using an addon for those bindings?

When major changes are made to the API, then updates are disabled, or at least marked "Out of Date" and you have to choose to let the game load them.

This happened with 1.2, 1.3 and now 1.4.

For sure, the Craft Store Addon or any other addon that tracks Crafting will have to be revamped.

Still don't understand why we don't have a Template for our Keybindings or at least account wide settings for those.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

No I had it set in the actual options. I had Ultimate set to "R" turn UI off to "=" and autorun to one of my extra mouse buttons. All those where set back after every update. Thought the file just gets over written. Takes like 10 seconds to set it back so it never really bothered me.

That's absolutely not true regarding key bindings for me. I would have noticed immediately, as I have a fair number and it simply wasn't the case with 1.3 or previous updates. It would have been a huge pain to do it with all my alts, too.

Causing everyone who updates to lose their key bindings, across all alts, without warning is a major screwup, if you ask me.

Not too bad for me, since I do use "binder" now--a great addon that lets you "binder save xxx" your bindings, and load them with "binder load xxx" on each alt. But if I didn't have them backed up and an update wiped 'em without letting me record them first--I'd be a bit miffed.

I would like to back up my other settings if possible before this one kills them--if only to preserve some minor tweaks I can't remember in the graphics settings, and my chat window setup.

Anyone know what file they are in?

Not true for me either. I have my movement buttons on my mouse - I'd have noticed if those got rebound at any point before now. They never did, not in a single patch (not even during beta). Not until the patch and the hotfix this week did my keybindings get reset. Now, every time I log in wanting to play, I'm just pissed off again because I realize I'll have to try and remember how I had everything bound, remake all my chat windows - on every character - in order to play at all. Then I just say screw it and log back out. I haven't played since the patch wiped my keybindings. I'm sure eventually I'll get around to doing it, but honestly maybe not. I'm not that difficult to please with video games, I don't ask for a lot. I don't log in looking for reasons to be pissed off, I log in looking to -not- be pissed off, to relax. So, when they've done something so completely idiotic as wiping all of my keybindings upon patch, they've managed to make me angry and I just don't see why I would bother to renew my account when my subscription is up again.

Haven't yet had an update here that reset keybindings (until this one). I don't recall ever having an update in SWTOR that *reset* keybindings, however it seems like they love adding new default keybinds to new features that interfere with any existing keybinds so you get both things going off at once. (Happened to me with both the hangar and stronghold keybinds. Really annoying since, like this game, binds are always character specific instead of, at least optionally, 1 setting for your computer (or account))

I have noticed that even after resetting some indicators they are not being saved.

For example I turn off the follower icon but after a relog the follower icon
    is turned on again.

Also when I logout to character creation I have no character on the pedestal,
    nothing - zilch.

Freaked me out I thought my main was gone but thankfully clicking on an alt
and then back on my main brings the character back.

Lots of little UI errors in this patch.

I think that the missing character on the character select screen is from before the Update. I have seen this before.
