New to ESO?

Hello! I am quite new to ESO (only level 25) or so, but I wanted to post my first impressions in case anyone else was in the same situation I was in, looking for a new home after getting a nice computer capable of playing newer games. After getting my new rig all of a sudden every previously closed door (every single game out) I was never able to play became open to me, and I jumped in headfirst. I tried everything, in fact right now I still have, including ESO, 5 active subscriptions and thats not even counting the free to plays. Each has something to offer, some less than others...I dont want to name specific titles here but they all fell short for me after a few days.

Either due to performance issues due to hardware conflictions (A certain Sci Fi raid-intensive newer title), or complete lack of substance glaring in the face of its stunning visuals (A certain exiled realm of ab-something), or no end game whatsoever (a certain second iteration of a 5 or so expansion pack toting older title), or...etc, I could not become immersed in their worlds. ESO saved the day here, and not just because its Elder Scrolls (although i am a huge fan of Morrowind/Skyrim). My reasoning is as follows:

To start, It runs like butter, especially when encountering stunning scenes such as absorbing a Skyshard with the sun at just the right spot to send light rays shimmering down through the trees and reflecting off of a river bubbling by your feet. Then there's crafting...a real crafting system. Part of a larger 'Level by using it' skill system. Well thought out and well put together quests, all voice acted! I was playing yesterday and realized that I actually cared about this guy, his wife was corrupting him to the point he didn't even care about his dad anymore. His poor dad! I stopped and realized that I typically don't even READ quest text, my mind automatically knows its hunt this or collect these or visit this guy, and I look for my mini-map arrow and fly on. Not with ESO. Now if that's your thing, you can probably manage, dont think you HAVE to get into all the lore. The fact that it's there if you want it is what I needed.

Even better, is that if you read up on future goals for the development team, they actually have some pretty awesome stuff on the way. I originally put trying ESO off due to reading some things on the forums, and it's for that reason i'm posting this rather long unfocused summary of my own first impression, because I wasted a whole bunch of time due to some doomsayers whining over nothing (lesson learned). In fact, I would probably never have tried it if I didn't notice that every single other game has the same doomsayers saying the same rediculousness on their own respective forums. I wish I could say there was a free trial, but since there is not, I hope this can sway someone who's on the edge like I was. It's worth it, I promise.

Never let someone else tell you how your experience in a game is going to be. Only you can decide that.

IMO The game is not perfect, but it's pretty darn good and quite satisfying to play.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Good to know you're enjoying it too :)

Just to be clear : there still are some technical and balance issues, which may or may not impact you depending on how/where/which race/which class you play.

Most of them have been very extensively documented by player feedback in these forums (factual statements, enraged tantrums, and everything in between), so if you encounter a glitch, look around here, you might find a workaround or an explanation.

That being said, most things will go smoothly. When they don't skip maintenance, my personal gaming experience is completely bug-free.
Opinions are like buttholes : Everybody has one, and they usually stink.

    3 things to reduce stamina/magicka imbalance :
    - Use magicka to block abilities costing magicka, instead of stamina.
    - Add % damage reduction to heavy armor.
    - Add block penetration to 2H.

But But But no new players are ever coming in! And anyone who likes the game is a fanboy without a brain! And look at all the people playing its proof it's dieing. And I came with 2 friends and they didn't like it! and they are doing loyalty program just like every other sub based MMO that didn't fail I mean c'mon how much more proof do you need? And it's been almost 6 months and it's still not failed! see how much proof I have that it failed?!

(Just kidding glad to have you.)

Great to hear you are enjoying the ESO experience.........

What upsets me is the fact that the various online sites devoted to ESO seem to be largely occupied by people who want to tell everyone how awful this game is....

It saddens me that a casual observer would get completely the wrong idea about ESO by reading these negative comments........

The truth being that everyone who loves the game is too busy actually playing to waste precious game time answering the haters!!

BTW only on the forums cos my son has kicked me of the PC to play some stupid game. :p
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

Well maybe its good you started now, so you don't have to see how bad your characters got screwed and changed over the months.

I would suggest going to reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline and ask all the questions you want. The official forums has been a breeding ground for trolls for quite some time. Even the Devs and representatives get treated better over there.

You have to treat an MMO more like a sports team than a game. It is a long term commitment and people get emotionally invested.

On a site devoted to your favorite sports team, do you get reasonable, constructive discussions on the team's strengths and weaknesses and the best way to handle them? No, you get fans of your team declaring the end of the world if you don't bench player X, and fans of other teams bashing your team, and fans of other teams pretending to be fans of your team who then concern troll.

It is a similar situation with an MMO.

Is it juvenile and childish? Yes. But human beings are juvenile and childish. We are just juvenile and childish about different things at different ages. :-)

Yeah, these forums are... well. Seems like everyone has a beef with one thing or another. I've been playing since the first day (...actually days before first day, woo early access) and my oldest and most-played character is only level 36 and just now got to the fourth alliance zone. That's because I keep finding so much interesting stuff inside the game, things that are much more satisfying than grinding and rushing through the best parts just to reach... what? The brick wall of nothing-left-to-do, no-more-XP-bar? (Of course, that brick wall will magically teleport two feet away every time the level cap is updated, but its still a brick wall!)

And you know what? I love this game. If you actually sit down and have fun with it, it is amazing. (And relaxing too, when you're not competing for mobs with ten thousand other level-sprinters...) Going from Glenumbra to Stormhaven to Rivenspire to the Alik'r Desert is like I'm being dropped inside a fantastic whole new world each time. Same with Auridon to Grahtwood on my little Bosmer. Crossing that gate or arriving by ship into a new zone.... there's nothing like it.

My advice to new players is to take it slow and let yourself be surprised. Let yourself just pause a moment when you're running to the next objective and look around you. Listen to the sounds of the ocean off Vulkhel Guard docks, pull in that blue fish as the sun sets a Rivenspire lake on fire, watch the lava bubble and hiss as it flows into the sea near Ebonheart.

...I got off topic, lol. In any case, I'm glad you decided to try it, OP, and liked what you saw. Haters gonna hate.

Game and zos annoys the hell out of me some times but i love the game, and you can tell they love their game too because its obvious a lot of love has gone into it, which gives a sence of more promising future even when they mess it up on patch day.

but yeah its a fab game for me personally it has everything i was looking for and filled in a long search for a replacement game after too many year of wow.

but would love some smaller scale pvp but in future in sure, i mean the world is so large there is lots to do till then, and they add content faster than i can get through it.
