And I thought mine was bad! 500k download here. DSL is all I can get and I would pay for faster if I could. In the old days when I had slow dial up I used to take my computer case to my ISP and download at their office :)

That's because you've been fooled by the ISP marketing tactic of representing speeds in Mb, instead of MB, which is what everyone is familiar with.

Megabits = 0.125 Megabytes. Your speed is 3.75 megabytes per second if you are paying for 30 Mb.

Also, OP, look on the bright side; you should be able to start downloading update five as soon as four is finished.

Well this is great, just like last time I crash upon entering the game, and now have to redownload the entire game to fix the problem.

I pissed off enough about this *** patch, I didn't need that on top of it.

I pay for 10 meg service. I did a speed test and got 15.58 mbps download, and a 1.16 mbps upload speed. But the launcher only downloads at 1.94 mbps

It varies on the game client I believe, for instance at I stayed over a friends once I updated my Guild Wars 2 at 500kbps using his internet, then I updated Lord Of The Rings online at 6mbps.

By that I'm guessing it varies upon the client/quality or some other factor.

I am averaging 70-80kbs on this patch.

I consider that to actually be quite fast for out here.

I read your comment, don't worry! (PS. Thanks for bringing light to this, a lot of people don't know about their sneaky, deceiving techniques.)
I actually called my old ISP out on this because they had the "B" in MB in upper-case. Got a free upgrade package out of it... God I hate the rural internet speeds here in Canada.

I forgot to leave my client launcher on this morning so it would be done downloading by the time I got home too, this Monday really is sucking today's D.

I have learned the hard lesson of always backing up my ESO folder before a patch comes out, so that way if it botches up during a patch, I can just delete the folder and paste my backup back in. Then I don't have to download the entire game again if something goes fubar.

As for the OP -- I feel your pain. I'm in rural north GA and we only have one little ISP in this town and I'm lucky to get 2.5 Mb speeds (but certainly not when downloading patches for ESO - they hover from 65kb to 200kb max). As much as I hated comcast when I lived in the city, it sure was nice having that 60Mb connection.

I'm averaging 6.32mb per second according to my ESO launcher, which is funny because my NetSpeed Monitor shows me getting my usual 5438Kbits/sec. Anyway, my DSL is 6mb, of which I get 5.4 mb useful. and the game is downloading at least 5+mb per second on my machine.

I've been tempted to go cable but I hate the big companies: they give cruddy service and oversell their cable bandwidth and lie to you. So i actually subscribe to a smaller company for my dead-reliable 5.4 usable mbs, at a higher cost than if I got cable from one of the major providers. Kinda dumb. But I'm okay with it.

I have no idea why they don't put these patches up that they can be downloaded using using programs like DAP or similar it is ridiculous the patch sizes and the pathetic speed that most people get. Most games did this within a month of launch.

That's because you've been fooled by the ISP marketing tactic of representing speeds in Mb, instead of MB, which is what everyone is familiar with.

It's not a marketing tactic, network bandwidth has always been measured in bits. ISPs are merely conforming to industry standard naming conventions.

This is because it is actually bits that are transmitted - 0 and 1 - and then are assembled into bytes to form meaningful items. Historically, bytes have not always been 8 bits and therefore bits was decided upon as the lowest denominator for determining bandwidth, in order to prevent confusion over different byte sizes.

I know and understand that. They just sure take advantage of that. I've even had representatives from the company call them "megabytes" out right.

Im suposed to have 60, its 45 or 60 depending on where i test. Changing DNS helps with my provider.

But what I notice with ESO downloads is when they get slow hit pause then start. Mine goes from 6mb to 3, then I pause start and it picks up again.
