How Do You Switch Factions?

Sorry but I didn't see this anywhere.

It would make no sense to make you stick to one faction if you've played for all three of course in the course of making your character. I simply could not find the command for it in the UI or in the documentation. Switching campaigns, yes. I found that.

I hate to tell you, the only way to change factions is make a toon in that faction, there is no switching factions, I know it might not make sense to you, but that is the how it woks for now, I don't care one way or the other, and have no idea if this is something they may add in the future.

    Thanks folks.

Perhaps the medium is still too new - it turned 30 this year in its commercial form - to make sense. And what boggles my mind may well make perfect sense to others.

it would be cool if you could "defect" to another alliance.

but as of now, to switch factions, you have to make a new character.

It's kind of a terrible idea. There would be a mass exodus from whichever faction is perceived as weakest/outnumbered, making it a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you could just click a button or pay gold or whatever to switch factions, red would lose everybody overnight and it would be AvA instead AvAvA, haha.

I thought everybody hated Daggerfall? Red's were cool cuz they got Nords and Dark Elves.

No, Daggerfall Covenant is the most noble of factions. Admittedly easy feat, as others are just pathetic.

I am not sure if option to betray should be included. After all, who would want defectors joining his faction? Once a traitor...

This may just be me, but I thought that DC was thought of as the faction with a higher population of exploiters. At least from an AD perspective.

I am not as familiar with exploiting as you are to say which faction has higher exploiting population.

So if you read the fine print on the quest stuff, technically the quests you do for the other factions are occurring through some kind of dream-memory-mumbo-jumbo that Meridia facilitates after you beat Molag Bal. So from a story perspective, you aren't supposedly actually running quests for the other factions, you are just reliving the other sides of the story or some such. Whatever it was, it was some In-Character sleight of hand to justify you getting to do the quests in the other faction zones.

And yeah, what others have said, allowing open faction system would create chaos in the PvP world.

That said, I really think ZOS ought to consider opening a controlled, numbers limited, vet only, first-come-first-served faction switch for the population group that currently dominates PvP (*cough*AD) to see if they can balance the faction population. It seems clear that AD has an overall population advantage, at least in the pvp campaigns, and thats a big part of what's driving difficulties with the PvP system.

So if they opened a very limited faction switch that allowed a specific quota of AD vet players to switch to EP or DC, that could help even the PvP board, if players actually took it up (and, naturally, it would have to be VERY tightly managed).

But open faction switching? that would be a disaster.

everyone thinks its the other factions that are all exploiting everything.

I get it I is smarts. He played in all three factions on 1 character and was trying to make a funny.

Guess what smart guy the play through of the other 2 factions is a vision granted by a Daedric prince.

I would like to ask why the alliance indicators only disappear over AD. I've seen it at least 5 separate times, and never to EP.

I've had it happen over both opposite factions. So it isn't only AD. Haven't even seen a good reason for it.

Once was open field, and only a few player around; Another was a larger resource battle which could have had an impact. Been a few other random times as well (open field, keep battles, etc...), but nothing that is consistent.

I'm guessing that at times certain things aren't getting sent (i.e. faction/etc.), or it's getting lost in transit, so the client can't display them. The client may just continue to ignore it even if an update with that info comes in if the player info is cached.
