Shield....

Whats the point in attacking anyone with a shield if they are going to BLOCK every attack!!! Range/melle.... So tired of "Absorbed ".... "Blocked" Message, whats worse is when they are running away and are still blocking with there backs to you.

Spend over 100k in respecs to find a way to do some sort of damage to a Shield using class in PvP...

I will not even get into the DK abilites...

I do not even bother with DKs and there God mode.

I hope something gets done about this.

blocking should be directional, you should only block what is in front of your shield

    This.
Save your hard hits for when he runs out of stamina. Use decrease healing abilities wisely (don't start the fight spamming them, then he knows and will be prepared to purge) and couple them with your hard hitters. Don't spam CC because why not, try to plan it.

    It's not easy, but doable.

As in, I have seen other people do it. :)

They just need to fix block casting. Blocking should make your skillbar turn grey and skills be unusable until you release the block button. After using any attack or skill, there should be a window before you are allowed to block again (even if its half a second, just not instant/nonstop like it is now).

That'd probably murder tanks in PvE. And that'd literally murder some of them in vet dungeons.

I don't do PvP, I suck at it so can't judge. However, even if something needs balancing, they should be VERY careful balancing smth in PvP so it doesn't ruin the game in PvE.

Since stamina abilities such as cleave and bombard are directional, why cant blocking be as well?

    Some food for thought

Because the idea is that you're in defensive mode, and just because they don't have an animation of the Shield bearer pivoting to block rearward attacks, I think that is the intended idea. Holding block is meant to represent defensive mode, and actively using your shield as opposed to passive use. It sucks up your stamina every time you're hit, so there's the balance. Seriously, don't hate on tanks, just because you ran into an Emperor one time with batswarm or standard or Blazing or the like.

Oh, I don't. I use block often myself in PvP also.

However, I think it'd promote more skill based (and realistic) gameplay (both in PvP and PvE) if block was directional.

Rule #1 Do not mess with tank mechanics

You will upset the limited number of tanks.

Also OP you are way wrong . The absorb is a one hand ability not a block. The shield is pretty useless against magic attacks etc . dk also has a reflect spell that last for four seconds and of course green dragon blood.

Honestly I'm not a PvP but as one of the few tanks out there what your suggesting would make it impossible to complete certain trials encounters particularly the Mage

Actually, you're wrong. Combat log (CLS) displays that attacks are absorbed by whichever shield it is. For example, when fighting a sorc your combat log with either show:

    "<player name> absorbed <damage> with hardened ward"

    or

    "<player name> absorbed <damage> with healing ward"

    or

    "<player name> absorbed <damage> with harness magicka"

When one can create a damage shield stack for nearly their full amount of HP that heals you for your health lost and gives you magicka in return in addition to 50% less damage from spells then there is an issue with the game mechanic.

If they fixed animation cancelling, that would fix this issue, but as i've counted ZoS has nearly 100 things to fix, and that's pvp related issues alone.

Sorry but if blocking dropped stamina more than 1% per block, then maybe i'd agree with you, but as it is now anyone can block nearly forever. Not to mention there isn't much difference between blocking with a shield and with a stick in this game, so there's that too.

Love the whole "reality" based comments. You are playing a fantasy game. I have a magic shield. Whenever I raise it it protects me in all directions. When my arm gets tired (stamina), I lower it. As a dragon knight, I have really big arms.

Root them somehow (talons, encase, bombard) and autoattack them to get their stamina down. What ive learned to do is encase, constant autohits and lightning flood(synergy important, saves you lots lof magicka). Either they die to the synergy or burn their stam by rolling out and just getting encased by me again.

Blocking should be only in front of you, and block casting is also pretty lame.

Would make pvp a lot more balanced, and make tanking in pve require more timing. Tanking currently is really boring and easy.

Tonight there were 4 of us on one guy marching around with his shield. Nothing could break it. Of course with block casting, he just healed back up instantly. From 1200 hp to 3200 hp in zero time. No CCs stick, ultimates did nothing to break it. Just walked right through the caltrops, right through the burning oil, right through all 4 of us. Yeah, pretty annoying.

I don't know what other classes can do about it, but on my Nightblade I just fear them out of block and keep Shades on them to drain their stamina. Works pretty good unless they are immune to CC(breaking CC also costs a lot of stamina).

There is a bug where you can block while feared, but I don't see many players doing this.

OP, you're talking about shields, then about dks - which is it?

Anyone can use a shield, and go more defensive, and fire off many abilities behind block. Using a shield with the passives from the skill line will give any class more survivability. But as soon as the stamina runs out...defense is gone. People talk here as if stamina were infinite...not sure what game they are playing.

As for dks, they've been nerfed repeatedly. They remain a strong class in PvP, but they are far from god-mode.

i think holding block up should reduce stamina regen like when sprinting or reduce stamina regen to 0 regen like when sneaking. and heavy armor should have a perk which removes stamina disadvantage while holding block.

Every time you block and move you suck stamina.
Every time you block and take damage you suck stamina.
When there is no stamina block fails.

Just wear down there stamina....simple as that.

At the end of the day the point of blocking is well you guessed it ...to block damage.
