Just some help for a noob? (Enchants + Alchemy)

Enchanting: where are you guys getting your "base" rune? Like "Ta"? Extracting gives me such minimal returns it's really off-putting. :/

Alchemy: where are you guys getting ALL your materials? Surely traveling the world for the mushrooms and stuff isn't the only source? Please say it isn't? I'll cry

Runes can be found in the world just like metals, wood etc. Look for small 'obelisks' glowing red, blue or green (depends on type of rune inside)

Alchemy materials are harvested from world nodes, yes, but there are so many you won't lack them, at least while you are leveling. Be sure to grab the alchemy passive that allows you to make 4 potions instead of 1 everytime you brew something tho.

Gather, Gather, Gather. In both cases.

The number of mats for Alchemy is not that large when you figure out the useful mats. Many of them have negative aspects that are not really working as intended in the game at this time.

The big three are Bugloss, Columbine & Mt Flower. Others have benefit depending on the specific potion you're after, like Lady Smock, Dragonthorne, Blessed Thistle, etc.

I recommend using the negative mats to make all the potions you can to level up Alchemy, and then just vendor them.

I'm actually making a stockpile. I have a feeling emetic russula is going to be immensely popular once the poison-your-weapon system goes in with the dark brotherhood :) (just a guess really, but not that wild)

You have hireling passives who can send you stuff, you also have keen eye passives that will highlight items further and further away the more points you add.

Ta ?? 9/10 after finding a rune its normally said item
....my response on finding is sarcastic.....Oh! tah...not.
I guess many will actually beg you to take them lol

But yes....just go for a stroll around the outskits of any zone and explore the wonders. You'll be falling over the stuff littered about...find hidden quests...see weird random stuff.

Tamriel is littered with both rune nodes and alchemy nodes. In fact, mats and nodes for all the different crafting lines are plentiful throughout the zones.

Below is just one example of how common those nodes are. It's a map of Khenarthi's Roost, showing (among other things), runes, mat nodes and chests.

    Map Legend:

Qx - Quest markers for static NPCs that are quest starters (Dark quest arrows)(The number corresponds to the order i found the quests)
Sx - Skyshard locations (The number corresponds to the achievement order)
C - Outside chest locations (Also the ones inside open caves)
M - Mini anchors, aka dark fissures
. - Resource node locations (There are a LOT of these)
    x - Rune node locations
x - Heavy Sack locations (These contain special crafting resources and runes)
Tx - Treasure Map locations (The number corresponds to the Map number)
    B - Lore book locations
    F - Fishing hole locations

You'll never get many good runes deconning glyphs of any color, at least not until the next patch, and even then it will remain to be seen. As stated by others, get out in the world and harvest, harvest, harvest. You can buy mats, but as a noob, probably don't have the funds. I have never bought any mats, have leveled both enchanting and alchemy to 50.
Get the Harvestmap addon. It will help you find nodes for repeated harvesting, especially for rune nodes. All the starter islands have a lot of nodes. If you aren't finding many, maybe try a different time of day with fewer players. Pick up all runes, even common low value ones. Nodes won't respawn til you do, so not clearing the nodes hurts your chance of getting a better rune. Same goes for bait in alchemy nodes. Players consider it rude if you don't 'eat the worm'. You can destroy these items, or sell them.....bait sells well if you don't overprice. If you want more advice, search the forums, lots of info on leveling both these skills.

You can buy all kinds of stuff from Guild Vendors. I bought 30 Bugloss the other day for 2500g. I'll pay around 100g a piece for Alchemy plants and for water. Bought 50, whatever level VR3 - VR5 water a few days ago for, I forget, it was a good deal.

I buy runes as well, mostly Donatas, but any Taderi I can find and I have been very happy with the trader set up.

The Vampire Witch makes about 2000g an hour these days in Cadwell's Gold. She does hoover all kinds of mats as well though. The perk to make em' glow is useful.
