Ever wished to look only at your blacksmithing materials? Or only at your light armor, because you keep the other armor types only for deconstructing? Now you can!

Seriously - when a new version of the game comes out and the addon is not yet up to date, I postpone playing until the update has been updated. I usually have more than 100 items in my bag and a full bank - I would go mad without these additional filters.

[intro]
Hi all, I am starting off a new series of polls about helping ZOS to start adopting addon functionality into the game. Some of those addons out there are so fantastic in terms of features, design and stability, that I think their functionality should be integrated into the game. A big thank's to all you addon developers, you are doing a wonderful job!

I realize that some addons offer quite specific functionality that is not for everyone, but others offer much needed and quite trivial UI enhancements. I also realize that some of these features were deliberately left out by the game developers, while others might just have been overlooked.

I am not intending to harm the addon community with this effort. Addon development takes effort, and while it is fun to first develop an addon it can become arduous having to update it with every new version of the game, so I am suggesting to include the best addons into the game so that modders have time to work on something new and be creative, rather than to have to maintain their creations.

I use this addon and love it. I'm just not sure how much traction this or your other addon polls will have with ZOS. Their intent with game UI seems to have been intentionally sparse, leaving room for modders to enhance. I'm happy using addon to improve the UI, except for two things......patches that break the addons, and abandoned addons. Minion does make addon maintenance pain-free.

It's always hard to predict how much of an influence a poll will have. But in general I do get the feeling that the game developers spend time on the forum and take concerns and opinions of the players seriously. Also they have a lot on their hands at the moment. Providing good new content and improving build balance is hard work. I can see how UI improvements are not their top priority.

On the other hand, some of the UI designs are so extremely bad, that from my perspective it's beyond the point of "we do this intentionally to leave room for modders". If you look at the guild store interface, for example, in combination with their guild trader update, you can tell that there is a design flaw, rather than an intentional neglect. With the normal guild store interface a simple task such as looking for a rare motif in five different stores becomes a chore. And they intended this use of the guild vendors, otherwise they wouldn't have placed most of them in clusters.

That being said, I am doing this poll series to see how the community feels about individual addons. Most suggestions have received overwhelmingly positive results, but some polls stand out. For example the poll about Research Assistant has not received 100% postive votings. I find that quite interesting.

The last point I would like to make is that all the modders do this work for fun. And while it can be a lot of fun and incredibly rewarding to develop an addon, it can be challenging to maintain it through ongoing API changes as hobbyist. My idea is that ZOS could iteratively adopt functionality that has come out of the addon scene so that this maintenance is not on the shoulders of the modders. Unpaid fans are good at creativity, they are not good at maintenance.

I think it would be great if addon developers would be rewarded with a lifetime membership. It could be a regular thing, where every month one addon is picked for adoption and it's developer is awarded a lifetime membership as a reward. This would also further increase motivation for modders to come up with even better ideas.

Probably the best overall addon--functional, and pretty much everyone could benefit from it.

You should get AwesomeGuildStore in a poll soon, too.

Heh. Now I feel dumb because I VOTED IN THAT ONE.

Didn't really connect it with the one today. LOL.
