So I've done a couple playthrus now and in the end I always choose Varen as the sacrifice and in the end I get his staff, my question is the reward different if you choose Sai/Lyris? Do you get their respective weapons or is it always Varen's Staff

I think Abnur wants to do something with the chim el adabal himself, and that's why he runs off with it. Your character has earned the right to carry it, but he can't take control if you're in control, can he? Anyway that's what I thought when it ended the way he did. Abnur is a weasel, and always was a weasel. He may not have liked Molag Bal, but he was never a good guy. He's more the bad guy you'd rather have in power than Mannimarco, not that you want a bad guy in power.

I also agree, and I've kept the staff purely out of sentimentality. At the end of that story, I felt a connection to Varen. He's like my Obi Wan almost, and I'm hoping we get his ghost chattering with us down the line.

I never liked Varen and and choose him easily. Anbur - not so bad, but he have his own plans and thoughts, dont afraid to be "not like others", think firstly and only then act. Lyris and Sai - really, how you can sacrifice one of them?

Anyone who chose sai or lyris is a coldhearted monster. When I first got there I thought "this will be a tough decision." then I talked to sai first and thought "ya they can't die."

didn't really answer the question cuz I can't sorry I had to choose varen and ive only done it once.

The first time I did it I had no idea who to pick, though after talking to Sai I kind of felt like it should have been him (I felt really bad after). I just hit level 40 on my alt and this time around it will be different.

I just did Molag Bal for first time like 24 hrs ago. It was very easy for me to choose Varen as I had enough of him by that time,LOL - he deceived me from the get go and he is old and crotchety anyway. However I cried when he went splat and I just stood there and looked at him for the longest time... Not the first time this game made me cry as I got too involved in the story and the characters within.

I wanna see in future add ons to this game maybe a chance for Lyris and Sai to have a family (together of course) and be happy. God knows Sai deserves to be happy IMO - and Snow Lily aww,so precious and romantic.

Your character has earned the right to carry it

You might think so, but only a Dragonborn can wear it, and the Red Diamond is supposed to lie waiting in the White Gold Tower when the next Dragonborn, Tiber Septim, rises to power in a few centuries. Besides, we can't have any random savior of Nirn running around with the Amulet of Kings, can we?

The "unique snowflake savior of the world" story clashes with the MMO setup, and the one-off unique items you had in other TES games are not available in ESO. In a puzzle quest in Bangkorai you get within arm's reach of a dagger which is strongly suggested to be the legendary artifact Mehrunes' Razor, but you never actually get to see it.

I picked Sai. Varen deserved it more, but Sai seemed like the kind of person who wanted above all to have a meaningful death, so I gave it to him.
