So most people seem to hate block-casting, myself included. There is absolutely no reason people should be able to have superior defense and offense at the same time. Block casters can hold up against 10+ players for extended periods of time while dealing as much damage as anyone else.
Sure, there are counters and ways to drop their stamina faster, but sometimes it just isn't enough. Last night, a guy jumped out of a hole in a keep to walk right into a group of at least 5 of us EP players, and he didn't even attack. He popped a couple of defensive abilities here and there but held block for a solid 15 seconds while jumping around and not fighting back just because he wanted to taunt us. I hit him with 8-10 Puncturing Sweeps, among other abilities and four other players wailing on him, and his block still held. As a templar, my only effective way to break a block is to stun with Spear Shards / its morphs. None of my allies did any effective CC through block, but there are few abilities that can. They also get locked out so fast it hardly matters.
This was an extreme example of how effective block can be. Most block casters wouldn't hold out on stamina long enough to do that, but they would certainly do it long enough to kill you while taking little damage from multiple sources. No player should be able to hold out that long in a five-to-one fight by doing almost nothing. When players live that long while attacking you simultaneously, it gets absurd.
So there have been countless suggestions on what to do about this, but I have a pretty simple one that I would prefer over any kind of blocking angle reduction.
Reduce damage dealt by 50% for ~0.50 seconds after a block is dropped. This means you keep full damage during the block, for DoTs and such, making anyone stupid enough to stand in your AoE be punished accordingly, but you wouldn't be able to effectively deal single-target damage if you're constantly holding block and only dropping it for instant-cast spells.
Simultaneous offense and defense is ridiculous, and most of the people defending it are just the ones doing it. It's a terrible game mechanic.
