Advice on offering protection serivces

My girlfriend and I play together questing and leveling with each other. I figured on my free time by myself I can spend time in the game for achievements and whatnot, well now that I am caught up I think it would be neat to offer my services to lower leveled players that could use help.

I am totally unsure of pricing, maybe 100g for 30 minutes? I don't want to be too cheap or unfair. Any advice/thoughts?

Or, you could be a nice guy and just help people for the, well, the joy of helping people.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I'm really not sure if you are trolling.... but I'll risk a bite.

In all honesty I have not seen anyone in game charge for helping lower level players.

The in game community is, well, too nice for that.

But.... if you really wanted to charge people you could try roleplaying a mercenary. Join a roleplaying guild, I'm sure there are some out there already established as a "muscle for hire" organization, or start a guild like that yourself.

No, trying to point out that no one will pay you for your help in this game.

Why, all it takes is a Zone Chat to get help on something. Why would anyone pay for that?

No trolling here. I dont see anyone doing it either but I have seen it before early on in release. I am a V1 so there are a lot of players under me, but I dont want to level and quest ahead of my girl. I could very well do it for free but figured if I could make some coin then go for it. You're right about the community being too nice, just ask and you're bound to find help fast.

I'm not sure there is any real need for low level player to ask for help. It's very easy to solo your way up into veteran levels and even beyond, even for an mmo newbie. I think that's why nobody ever charges for help...and frankly people hardly ever ask for it either.

Also, if you group with someone of a significant level difference they will get very little XP from questing with you (as I quickly learned trying to help my husband level up). We had to be ungrouped for me to be of any benefit.

V12 DK here. Tell you what, poppet....I'll protect you while you protect the other lowbies, for a mere 1000g/hour....sound fair? My qualifications? Over 9000 achievement points, Tamriel Hero, Monster Hunter, and Explorer, among others. Honestly, poppet, you're getting a bargain.

And I'd like to point out that shard problem people have been having.

You wont be able to see them to help them and they wont be able to see you because as a VR1 you have already finished that content.

From comments in this thread and what I've seen in game, I'm thinking you're high in your price. Something much closer to 0g for 30 minutes seems more appropriate. :P

In all honesty, if I saw this offer in the game I would consider it scamming. In normal progression a low level character doesn't need a VR1 for anything, quite the opposite, you can't even repeat quests you've already done so they'd be paying you for nothing. If you want to help with something else, just help - there are dozens of people in zone chat willing to answer questions and give advice.

However, escorting lowbies through dangerous areas to complete specific objectives (collecting skyshards comes to mind) would probably be fair. Like leading people through public dungeons, Cyrodiil etc. But really, they'd be better off finding a friendly guild.

Then don't ask for "advice and thoughts". You did, you know. In your first post.

Considering the tone of your posts here, I don't want to know how you would deal with a clueless new player. I've been on both sides; needing help when I ended up over my head with multiple enemies 5 levels above me, and picking up a lower level player outside a delve and playing bodyguard to get them to a skyshard in a area they wouldn't have managed otherwise. I did the normal looting/harvesting routine and considered myself repaid. When I needed the help, the player who went through the area with me didn't ask for anything.

You might find more interest if you role-play a merc in Cyrodiil. In the faction areas I don't think you'd find many people wanting to pay for your services.

I did. Theres a big difference between "just do it for free" and other sarcastic responses compared to civil intelligent responses explaining why they think its a bad idea. Sure I didn't need to respond back but it happened.

The game is not that hard (honestly the hardest parts are a couple of battles in the MQ which are forced solo anyway).

If I need help with anything, I ask in one of my guilds. If a guildmember asks for help (or indeed if a random comes up to me in a quest and asks for help because they are having trouble), I will go help them (for free, and for fun, yes, I find it fun and satisfying to help people). I don't pay anything when I need help, and I don't charge anything when I give help - it's a co-operative situation where if I am the helpee today, I might be the helper tomorrow, or vice versa. Or if someone needs a few mats today I will give them, and maybe if I need a few mats tomorrow someone will give them to me (and no, this is not pie in the sky, this is the way the guilds I am in work, and they work very well).

So really I can't see much call for a hired blade, except for people who maybe haven't found a good guild - and given that we have 5 guild slots, that would be unusual. To the point where I'd almost think you were taking advantage of newbies. (I don't think that is the case btw, I just think you haven't really thought it through).

If you actually want business, charge less to help with a quest than what that quest offers as a reward. Also keep in mind powerleveling restrictions that influence loot and XP gain.

I have to agree the first replier to your post was a lil sarcastic, but he/she did quite plainly answer your request for thoughts and advice. Not only answered, but gave a reason for the advice ("just to be nice") and did all that in one elegantly simple sentence.

That all said, I like the idea of hiring out, but don't think this game is set up mechanically to make good use of what you want to offer.

You will spend all your time asking for people to hire you and my guess is you will get very few takers..I am guessing you will be wasting your time but that's not to say you can't try...I would advertise your intentions not state a price but list it as negotiable and work it out with those that pst you.

Not sure why this needed a thread for you to get some sort of silly gratification for but maybe you just have issues implementing your ideas.

    good luck with that,
I once tired to help a RL friend who just started, but as soon as he got to the quest he wanted to do he dissapeared, because I already did the quest, we were moved to seperate phases

Only scenario that I can think of where this could actually work would be body guarding and escorting low level players in Cyrodiil to fetch skyshards.

As well I thought there might be a market for escorting low level crafters to various stations.

Sadly they are being kinda weird about crafters right now and low level crafters, some of mine at level 50, are kinda nerfed by new level requirements. I have complained and they have said they would look into this. Not holding my breath.

I actually get a big kick out of getting low level people into ridiculous areas and won't be hiring anyone but it seems like that could be a market.
