Sadly, this game is too poorly optimized for me. Goodbye :(

Posted from subreddit because I couldn't post here until now.

I love this game and everything that has been done with it. But the FPS and poor optimization is making this my last month. I can no longer handle the fact that I will never enjoy the content I would eventually want to play because of lag-outs in large battles.

I am only level 20 and barely have time to play games, but have been a loyal subscriber since launch because I really wanted to see this game flourish. Sadly, I keep finding myself playing other games instead because of performance issues. My rig is not great, but it certainly should not be having the issues this game gives me. I have played video games for over 20 years and I know that much, if nothing else.

MMOs have been in a sad state for the last 5-8 years, depending on your preferences. I really thought ESO was the one, but this development team has lost my faith.

I have defended this game from haters on other forums, and I had hoped it would get better, It is clear that the studios is not focusing on optimizing their PC game, and rather trying to get their console release out and working to make another cash-grab. Which is truly a knife to the heart / an arrow to the knee.

I have spent hours and hours and hours trying to optimize myself with usersettings, different launchers, GPU scaling, third party programs, new drivers, formatting, VRAM settings....the list is really really long. I'm looking at it now. I pulled out all the stops for you, ESO. I really tried. But I just can't play an online game with such performance issues.

One day I hope a company will not only create a product, but actually take the time to invest in their product and have faith in their own product rather than reaching for the next cash grab. In ESO's case, it was the quick console launch after not even fixing their PC version. I am incredibly sad you could not be the company to have faith in your own product.

It seems that I must continue the wait for a great MMO.

http://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/2fro68/fps_problems_is_it_my_rig_or_this_game/

I have been trying to solve FPS problems in my game for a while now, and I'm wondering if my rig just isn't cut out for it ?

My rig specs

Windows 7 64 Bit CPU : AMD FX 8120, 3100GHZ Eight core Mainboard : Biostar A960D+ Memory : 12gb, Dual channel. Timings are 400mhz Dram Freq, 6-6-6-15-20 (Top to bottom i CPU-Z). Note : I have noticed I have an 8gb and a 4gb stick, with differing frequency/speeds- does this matter? GPU: Radeon 6850, 1gb GDDR5 memory

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I get 35-40 FPS that seems to just randomly sink to 18-25 depending on what's going on. In solo dungeons in small areas it gets as high as 80 FPS. PVP is almost unplayyable as it drops to 5-15 FPS.

Even lowering the settings during PVP doesn't seem to help that much.

I have already tried usersettings.txt changes - the usuals, gpu smoothing, alpha soft, etc. These results are the results of me trying to tweak everything I can out of this game.

I'm wondering what's up with my rig. It seems like some games run wonderfully (ie ; Castlevania, lords of shadows 2) - And some guys take hits when lots is going on at once....even League of legends will give me drops when 10 people use all their skills at once :/

Any suggestions? Thank you

~~EDIT~~~~

Tried changing CPU affinity CPU 0 off. Just maxed our CPU 4 instead. tried some programs things like CPU Park/Process lasso, didn't seem to help.

One more question - Would having the Beta Launcher change anything? I read about that somewhere but don't want to uninstall and re-install for more false hope. I don't know if it's the BETA launcher but I just kept my files from BETA and the game works so..... ???

My FPS problems can be described as running in circles and at 40 FPS. Dips to 15-20 for about 20 seconds, then up to 30. Then dips down to 25. Then back to 35. Then down to 15.....

I'd be happy with a solid constant 25 (or ya know, 60). It's the constant changing that is so frustrating. Seems like my FPS goes from 35-40 down to 20-25 every 30 seconds or so no matter what I do in the game.

~~~~~EDIT~~~~~~ CONCLUSION??~~~~~~~~~
What makes me think it isn't my GPU is that - Even if I turn the settings on MINIMUM and play at 640X480 or w/e the lowest resolution is, the game STILL maintains the FPS as described above, except it's about 7-10 FPS more on average (40, instead of 35, dips to 25 instead of 20). Which by the way, you might as well F***ing play an NES RPG with those graphics settings.
The last paragraph I've written leads me to believe this game is simply poorly optimized. I will likely be cancelling soon. :( It's sad because i like it, and I want the game to flourish, but so many players, like myself, with a decent rig still can't play this game for much of the content (big battles, PVP, etc..)
    Did you by chance every open the recommended ports on your router for eso? While I'm not saying this is a networking issue, it is at least worth a shot.
    I'm guessing that you have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of the radeon drivers? If you have been downloading the latest stable release I suggest you try the beta video driver. It should be just as good as a regular release but may help tremendously.
    Are you running fullscreen or windowed?
    How many addons do you have installed?
    Have you tried running windows in 16bit or 24bit color mode when playing eso?
    Have you tried flushing the DNS entries using ipconfig /flushdns
    Don't give up that easy.
    My rig is lower than OP and ESO works fine except in "mass" pvp.
    I run a Radeon 8990 6gig on highest settings...haven't seen a stutter once, though I did drop to 60ish fps once in a zergball in cyro.
    There's your issue.
    That'll be 90 bucks.
    This... 1gb of vram at any modern resolution (1080p or higher) is going to leave you having bad times in most any newer game. The Radeon 6850 was a lower-mid-range card when it launched several years ago, and with the small framebuffer and performance level of the gpu itself, it has not aged well. 100% guarantee the OP if he bought a GTX 750 Ti 2gb or similar for $110-130 off of newegg on sale (such as this example @ 130 after a 10 rebate right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487024 ), he'd be flying in this and every other game he owns ;) at higher graphic settings to boot (assuming he's running a 1080p display).
    ESO scales very well to older hardware but it can't do miracles with nothing, nor can other modern games with demanding environments/graphical features/world design. The renderer and overall engine used (built custom for Elder Scrolls Online per interviews awhile back), while cpu-bound in massive cyrodiil pvp, otherwise runs amazingly well for the graphical fidelity and environmental complexity it is handling, and scales both up and down in terms of the requirements for various settings impressively.
    (For a humorous aside and to give you an idea, I am able to run ESO at 20-25fps on a $130 Atom bay trail-based tablet using an onscreen controller overlay on minimum settings... mind you that is a tiny windows 8.1 tablet. Literally a 2 watt or so cpu/gpu combo running full-tilt :p. Any remotely modern desktop at reasonable settings should be able to run the game well, even if it looks uglier.)
    Exploits suck. Don't blame just the game, blame the players abusing them!
