Heartbreaking. Truly.

I won't drone on. It's heart breaking. There's no point in comparing this game to ANY other game... it's still a fail. Five months. Dead. Nobody plays.

Good thing I started a side guild, way back in the beginning, to get the free guild bank space LOL hundreds of days since any of them logged in... w00t I got 500 free bank slots, thanks!!!!!!! :)

I can't even log in every day anymore. I used to do it for the hirelings, but what's the point? So I have a stack of yellow thingy's. Who cares. Sell for what? Buy what? snooze yawn

I know, you trolls reading this, will say, give me your x/y/z... lol [snip], if I gave them to anyone, it would be to guildies. Every day, at least 4 of the 400+ login LOL I'll give my junk to my guildies.

Honestly, I haven't looked to see if any *new* online games are coming soon. I think I'm done with MMO's. Rude people, crappy games, what's the point?

Dead, really? I see people everywhere I go and my guilds usually have 75-100+ on at any one time. And you know it is harder to tell how many people are on given the megaserver tech, right? It isn't a static server like WOW. Sure WOW has more people, always has, always will (don't ask me why). No other MMORPG can compare but many hold their own, including ESO.

    Umm, OK.
I disagree, my friend disagrees too. We're both still playing and having tons of fun, especially in Cyrodiil, playing against large numbers of enemies. Not NPCs
    mind you, other players.
So much for "dead, nobody plays".
    And comparing a game's population after 5 years against another's after 5 months is....asinine.
I grant you, ESO could probably do better. It could do a whole lot worse too.

Your reasoning is a bit funny.

Just because your guildies are no longer logging on doesn`t mean that the server is empty.

You clearly state that you started a guild for the free bank space , which means that your capabilities for being a good guild leader are most probably very mellow .
And in return you failed at keeping any of them interested . I`m sure any successful guild leaders out there will back me up when i say that being a guild leader is quite a big responsibility. You need to show your followers that you`re involved and that you care otherwise they will leave to join other guilds or simply stop playing the game because they relied on you to keep them entertained.

Now that being said, i don`t agree that the game is dead, major cities are still crawling with people, every public delves i enter , i come across other people. I also always see people working on the same quests that i`m doing.

Everytime i walk by the entrance of a dungeon i see people waiting , either they`re waiting for their other group members or they`re looking for more people to join their group.

The game isn`t dead just because your guild is dead lol.

Just to point out, Mega server tech is specifically designed to ensure population is in a "Goldilocks" zone. Not to many. Not to few. Just right. It won't appear "dead" unless there's literally no one in that zone. I'd wager a safe bet there's only one instance of any given zone running (two if you want to count the VR zones as multiple of the same zone).

Population has shown decline rather than growth in PvP. As for PvE it's hard to tell. I can think of many more players that have left or rarely login that had been around with me since launch (and even before on the PTS). The new folks I run into joining my guild are mostly being scavenged from dead guilds, and they have similar stories to my own in most cases. Hell even I'm going to be taking a break for awhile to go play something else and I'm a die hard fan.

I love ESO, but don't kid yourself. The game is not performing well by any metric I have the ability to observe.

Agree. I'm sorry but coming onto a games forum and whining how it's not like another game is not productive . if you can't provide a constructive and realistic comment on how the game can be improved take your whining somewhere where people care, especially if your one of the many trolls who don't have an active sub and play the game.

Trying to determine if OP is sarcastic or serious.

Saying WoW grew more in 5 years than ESO did in 5 months is... well.... expected. That would be ridiculously record breaking/amazing stats otherwise, but phrasing it that way would seem to suggest ESO at least came close to that... which would seem to be a massive compliment to ESO. But the rest of the post is all about how the game is dead.

Lol, this whole post just made me laugh. Plenty of people playing try going out into the world rather than just checking your mails and whether people in your guild are on.

When one guild dies people just move to another guild like rats from a ship. Try joining a better guild where people actually want to stay in the guild.

Loved the amateur dramatics of the syntax in the post as well. Keep it up OP I need more laughs today!

@Gokmak‌ , I completely understand your perception, and it can be very depressing.

I am a member of 4 guilds currently.

The 1st guild is dead, with nearly 350 of the 400 members gone for more than 1 month. The GM and the other two officers have been gone for 3 months.
I am the last remaining officer, and a responsible person, so I am also in the middle of the exceedingly difficult process of gathering up as many of the remaining folks in this guild as possible, so I can bring them over to my main guild (see below). This is both a depressing and challenging process, but it is, thankfully, almost complete.

The 2nd guild is a straight trading guild. Lots of active members, virtually no chat and no player-to-player assistance (This is understandable, it is strictly for trading)

The 3rd guild is the "sister guild" of my main guild. We do joint Cyrodiil and dungeon runs together. These can be Very fun.

The 4th, and final, guild is the most important.
My main guild is loaded with decent, helpful folks who are always willing to lend a hand. It is seriously excellent being a part of this group. Think of the "old-school awesome" guilds of days gone by, but without all the "kiddie chat". My main guild only has 340+ members ... but over 1/2 of them are on literally every day.

If you are willing to give it another shot, my main guild, Tamriel Traders Reserve (TTR) would love to have you. I am the lead officer at TTR (2nd in command, so to speak), and I will gladly extend an invite to you if you whisper me in-game.

Looking forward to changing your mind ;) ,

Reading the title I thought this was a sarcastic post about how people expect newly-released ESO to be equal/better than long-established WoW. Then I read the contents and am confused.

This is either a really, really subtle sarcastic jab against doomsayers or the OP doesn't think very much.

You know, assuming the OP isn't trying to troll or something along those lines, I think what they meant by the 5 months/5 years thing was... they feel that after 5 months, ESO is already losing people and they are noticing it where as in WoW it felt like it was constantly growing over 5 years.

Of course, I could be totally wrong, but given what he mentioned in his post, I like to think that was what he was getting at.

    Wat?

You could post this on the WoW forums and it would apply just as much there. WoW servers except a core few have been pretty dead this last year they have been merging like crazy.

Sorry but in terms of values this is the second game after wow about subscriptions.
1 week ago UK charts eso was on top-buy.
Lot of ppl in Cyrodiil ,and when i started i was alone , now i'm playing with 6 realmates. Only if you have official numbers you can be sure what are you talking about. I can't understand of ppl that takes WoW as an example, if a lot of ppl play it , it doesn't mean that is the best game like if a lot ppl eat McDonald's it doesn't mean that is the best food.

The only at least somewhat reliable numbers we can get are from steamcharts. I'd say they provide an adequate sample and it is in line with my own observation. Have a look here:

    http://www.steamcharts.com/app/306130

As you can see the player base dropped during the first free month by about 30% and then an additional 50% by the time the first sub was up, leaving about 1k concurrent players of initial 3k.

A 33% retention rate after the first month ain't that bad, especially not when you consider the still apparent problems this game suffers from, but I'm not all too sure if this can be hold over a longer period. It ain't particular good either, tho.

I don't expect any growth any time soon and we can be glad if the population plateaus at the current mark.
