Fishing - make it worth our time

Its simple really, let us use fishing in Cooking and Alchemy, perhaps with rare fish and premium ingredients

Add a few of them collectible trophys to fishing

Make it worth something except timesink and incorporate it into the game

I love fishing for what it is. No real gain (even before getting dyes). Just something to do that is not involving the whole level/pvp scene. Just explore and fish.

I disagree with white fish sold to a vendor for 3g, blue fish for 110g, but green still 0g.

It's all a work in progress but I fail to understand why you complain? Is it because you want fishing to have a goal or you want your goal of getting the colours to dye with to give you more? Do you want more from fishing, or less fishing for your achievements?

I'd love fishing to add to provisioning, to colours you can use, to alchemy.. I've postulated before about the "trout of combat" for duelling! As much as I like your postulation of fishing trophies.. all fishing IS trophies. (says so on the tool tip).

I am more suggesting than complaining, but its kinda unimersive to have cooking and not be able to cook fish. Using fish in cooking and alchemy was already established in Skyrim, its kinda awkward not having that in ESO

Apparently they had it implemented with provisioning in beta but had issues I hear and took it down. I've tried fishing a few times but it gets extremely boring and fast.

It was in, they canned it due to, *insert design / publishing reasons here*.

Probably design and time constraints involving cross over mechanics are harder to track. I DO agree that it could be incorporated into other skills.

I don't agree that it's not currently "worth our time". That is subjective and I like doing it, "Because it is there". A reasonable reason for Sir Edmund Hillary to climb Everest. My desire to just fish a virtual world pales in comparison.

When I first started playing the game (at launch) and I first heard of fishing I though " hey fish are probably used in some provisioning recipes l. Cuz that would make sense"

    ........ And I was wrong

I love fishing. Like previous posts, its something different to do. If its add attack power? I am GLAD it does nothing. And Zeni have a provision revamp with fishing included.

I have a question, if anyone knows? The fish I get say "Trophy", but are not in any achievement or can be clicked and end up in my journal. This is fine and cool!!

Is there a use for these fish trophies, TODAY. Not coming, which might be worth saving them for.

Are there any use today, other then a really cool extra feature?

I love it! Whenever I do anything, questing, running somewhere. Heading to a dungeon or whatever......come across a river....which always looks so damn nice. Fish spot! Stop, fish a bit.....then run along.

Small thing that adds so much!

I would like to see the fishing expanded quite a bit. I think it should remain what it is for those that enjoy it how it is now but it should expand to involve other aspects of the game.

First and foremost, I think we should have the option to construct (woodworking?) a different fishing rod. Everyone who isn't interested in this can keep their non-inventory always-available fishing rod that we have now, but if you construct a new rod you will be able to fish for more lucrative rewards. These rewards can range from food/beverage ingredients to treasures to clothing/jewelry supplies.

I would even be in favor of a series of rods that can be created to gain even better rewards. Certain fish could only be caught with certain rods. New fishing holes could be added around Tamriel that require different rods to be able to fish in them. I would even go as far as having the absolute best rod (daedric rod?) be able to fish in any water deep enough to swim in, regardless of the existence of a fishing-hole.

Let's keep going with the ability to cook more potent bait or craft re-usable bait.

Fish mongers could be placed in water-adjacent towns. Players could turn their prize catches into the fish monger and their name (along with their catch's length and weight) would be on display for all to see. If your catch lands you in the top 10 spots you win a prize of some sort (gold would be nice!). The fish monger would reset periodically (weekly? monthly?) to give everyone a fair shot at getting to the top of the board.

There are just so many options, it makes the current fishing system seem flimsy by comparison.

I reiterate, however, this should be in ADDITION to what we currently have. Leave what we currently have alone... but add this optional activity on top of it.

I see three ways to make fishing worth our time:
    - make unique recipes with fish for crafting
    - significantly buff cost of fish to sell it
    - significantly buff chanse to get not a fish, but items like treasure map in bottle (for now, as I know, you can get runestones).
And idea with craftable bait is intersting.
(Angler's guild like undaunted, mages and fighters guilds, with blackjack and skills and passives LOL!!)

Be able to fish up odd things....like a pair of Nords Boots or An Old Wedding ring. These items can start a mini quest ones 'used' then some witty dialogue from the NPC as to why or how they managed to lose their belongings in the first place.
You know sort of immersion stuff you'd expect in an MMO......(shesh it's like teaching kindergardeners)

They liked fishing that much in RIFT that they are about to release expansion 2 which is an entire underwater expansion.......what do we get? some more end game group crap 3 people asked for....

Have you ever been fishing in real life ??

If so then explain to me how you came up with the notion that a different rod means different fish ??

My father taught me quite a bit about fishing when i was younger and i`ve been going out fishing with my cousin and friends and of course my father quite a lot as i grew up and unless you`re willing to claim that my father knows absolutly nothing about fishing at all ,i can assure you that the type of fish that you catch depends on the bait that you use , not the rod.

Of course you need a bigger , stronger rod when fishing in the ocean. Not because a smaller rod cannot catch fish but simply because it will most likely break once you do catch something , but then again only the bait determines what you catch.

My nephew , who`s only 4 years old, came fishing with me, my dad, my sister and her boyfriend this summer and my nephew of course still uses those small rods made especially for kids that you buy at a toy store and believe it or not, he`s the one who caught the biggest figh all day.

The point i`m trying to make here is that , just because this is a game, it doesn`t mean that simple things like these should not apply. More realism equals better immersion into the game.

In real life I can eat fish. Cook and eat.
IMO different types of rods make this unprofitable work even more unprofitable and complicate.

Woodworking to make stronger rods that can hold bigger fish is a cool idea. Maybe blacksmiths could make different lures, alchemists new baits, the new fishing rods could be enchanted with new enchantments to catch more fish or magic fish. Clothing could make....a bag to hold all your fishing gear, and a set of gear that magically improves your fishing...

Draxuul, I was suggesting a way to broaden the fishing dynamics of ESO, not make a fishing simulator.

The same mechanics I'm suggesting could be used to have players create different fishing line types instead of different rods. Stronger lines need to be used in "real" fishing, right?

Besides, the Slaughterfish would bite through the line that's used to catch the Dhufish and the RiverBetty can ONLY be caught using a spidersilk line. (Made up logic here... As an example for literalists)

It should be noted that we already have this type of mechanic in fishing with the bait types. I'm just suggesting a more robust system... no matter the terminology used.

Add a recipe that uses Fish, like Fish Cakes (British classic) ingredients Fish and Potato, gives a different boost depending on what fish you use, ie slaughter fish give health boost, trodh fish give magicka boost, etc.

No, just no. Please don't force us to fish for Alchemy or Provisioning.

True story ... when my son was younger, I used to ground him by making him fish with my WoW character. Cruel ... yes ... but effective.

I have been good ... don't punish me by forcing me to fish.
