Weapon Enchantments - how often do they fire off?

So one of the traits you can add to a weapon is powered, which reduces the cooldown on weapon enchantments.

I assume that means there IS a cool down - what is it? There's nothing on the weapon itself that i can see that indicates there even is a cool down. I just assumed if the weapon enchantment says '6 fire damage' that every time you attack, it does the 6 fire damage and consumes a charge on the staff.

I was curious about that cooldown trait as well.

The default cooldown is 4 seconds.
It can be lowered with a certain trait (infused iirc).

It is fairly long and does make weapon enchantments a bit weak, but on the bright side they can also do more damage then they state: On critical hits they apply special effects depending on the type. (Fire deals increased fire dmg, and ignites the target, causing a 3 tick burn DoT).

4 seconds doesn't seem that bad, especially if you do a powerup attack which takes 2 or 3 seconds to build up anyhow. But definitely something worth considering, especially if you are thinking of a trait that increases the enchant effect vs something that increases critical hits or something, since the latter would go into effect more often since there's no cool down.

On the cooldown topic, does anyone know if the item set cooldowns are independent of each other?

For example, the Ashen Grip set and the Red Mountain set.

I was told by a guildie that they are independent, though I have not tested it. If someone could confirm it that would be lovely.

How does this 4 second cooldown work with the Weapons Enchantments that give something every y seconds. For example, "Increases Power by X every Y seconds" or "Grants a X point damage shield every Y seconds". It seems clear, these trigger every Y seconds (6 seconds on the ones I have), but how long does the effect last?

I swear one time my Restoration Staff of Frost hit an imp and turned it into a pile of... snow? ice crystals? I had wondered about that but possibly this could have been it (critical hit that resulted in a kill).

I just researched the cooldown of weapon enchantments as well... in Grahtwood, there is a Crafting station to make Torug's Pact Set, which is a 3 or 5 piece custom set. Wearing 3 adds 100 armor, but wearing all 5 takes one second off of your weapon enchantment cooldown, which is friggin huge when u do the dmg calculations.

Where do you get that number of 4s?

The set proc cooldowns are listed in the set tooltips. For Ashen grip, for instance, it's the Fire Breath, which is 4 seconds.

That would be not "every Y seconds" but "for Y seconds."

    example:

    (Kura + Deteri + Kuta)
Monumental Glyph of Hardening - Grants a 198 point Damage Shield for 5 seconds.

...with the same 4 second cooldown between procs that all the other enchantments have. The cooldown obviously starts after the 5 sec shield goes away.

OTOH, if you see an enchantment tooltip that says "every X seconds" it's a typo and you should /bug it. They just don't work that way.

There are passives that give a chance to disintegrate a target. Disintegrate in the Sorcerer Dark Magic skill line does this. There are also other things like this one that act on low health targets.

The frost special effect is not disintegration but rather a snare, which slows the target's motion for a few seconds.

Infused increases the enchantment by a percentage.
Powered I believe is the one that lowers weapon enchantment cooldowns.

Seems to me that there isn't any way you could combine these two and get both bonuses anyway, since Red Mountain is dropped and can't be crafted to weapons. Perhaps you could if one of the other of them has dropped Jewelry pieces, I don't know.

But in any case if you manage 2 5-piece sets (I have a char with Vampire's Kiss and Hist Bark, using 1H+shield and Resto staff) I don't think that the cooldowns depend on each other, just like with independant enchantments each having their own cooldowns.
