Textures take forever to load...

I'm sure this is partly due to my rig (Intel iCore 5 2.3ghz, Nvidia 550m, 4 Gigs of RAM & a 5400rpm hard drive), but I'm constantly having to watch textures load while running through the world. Not a huge deal, but while the textures are loading, my frame rate usually drops down somewhere in the teens to low 20s. This is most prevalent in cities, which makes having to go to one to sell off items, craft or access a guild auction, a pain in the rear. A load screen will usually pop up within about 5 seconds if I decide to hop on my horse and sprint somewhere as well.

Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me? I have textures set at medium I believe and despite lowering other graphic features, the problem remains. I'm assuming my 5400rpm hard drive would be a major contributing factor?

5400 RPM drives are painful to game on. They are more suited to data storage and low power use than anything else.

Do you have some money? Because an SSD would be beautiful thing and you can get 240 GB ones for around $100. I got a Corsair M500 256GB for $109. You could even get a 128GB for less than $100, but probably not much less.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Hmmm, I could do that. I have a lenovo y470 laptop though. Not sure if I'd be able to install one in there. Plus there's the issue of having to repurchase a copy of windows...

It's all your rig. I never watch textures load. I play on a laptop.

It will fit, and there are programs to clone your drive onto an SSD.

However, you don't need to do all that.

It's a caddy that replaces your Optical Drive and lets you install a SSD. Good thing is, you could take it out and put in the optical for those times that you need it. Or, get an external optical drive for cheap and use that.

I only see this on Character models. It takes 1-2 seconds for textures to clear up to their high quality when i look at an NPC/Player. This isn't all the time though, and this didn't happen in beta that i can remember.

    i5 @ 4.2ghz, 16gb DDR3, GTX 780 Superclocked, and a hard drive.

However, I have a small hard drive that houses my OS and a few programs, and then a larger drive that is only used for Installed Games. I've noticed that doing this, even with slower hardrives, takes a lot of strain off your gaming drive if you've got the OS on a separate one and can reduce load times

4 GB of RAM is pretty minimal, just enough to run Windows. The 5400 rpm hard drive doesn't help the situation either...

What is your amount of VRAM on the graphics card? I think I saw somewhere the max is 1.5 GB. You probably want at least 2 GB of VRAM...

But you could try upping the hard drive speed 7200 rpm or Solid State and RAM to 8 or 12 GB first to see if that helps.

You have pretty limited options for upgrades with it being a laptop. :\

Also, double check that you have the latest Nvidia drivers!

Same. Texture pop on player models has gotten really bad (at least for me). It generally takes 2-5 seconds for the textures to load on a model (even my own). If I go from 1st to 3rd person the the textures seem to unload on my own model. Zoom in, zoom out... they keep popping in and out.

I noticed this happening sometime around the launch of 1.3. It was rare before then, but became very pronounced for me around them. Nothing about the game should tax my system, but it does.

    (System Specs: Core i7 3930K OC'd to 4.4Ghz, 32GB of RAM, GTX 680 and 2X 240GB Samsung 840 Pros).

I have an SSD and I get the same thing. When the game first came out I would bolt out of the way shrine and plow through building and obstructions only to have them materialize on me and get me stuck.

The game is only 32 bit, so it will only use 4gb of ram max. I have a quad core at 2.6ghz and the game is only using 40% of my CPU and 30% of my GPU. I have no idea what is causing the this but my computer is not even taxed and I am getting the slow load. There are people with awesome computers having fps problems so I would not improve your computer unless you have the money to easily do so. You could spend all that money and time and have it not change anything.

This guys got SSDs, good ones too. Leads me to believe this is less about slow hard drives and more about the game loading and unloading textures in either VRam or System Ram when not necessary. Or when necessary because of its 32bit architecture.

    NEEDZ MOAR RAMZ!
