F2P - Why it would ruin this game

Pretty sure zos stated the servers would go offline before f2p happened. All these posts are pointless.
    /thread
    Not /thread.

Unless that comment was made from someone in executive authority it's worthless, and even it was said by someone with the power to make such a decision, minds change .. Rift was asserted as never going F2P, so was LOTRO, both did eventually; I'm not sure Bioware made such an assertion over SW:TOR.

Fact is, if numbers drop to the point where subs. aren't paying the bills, but there's still a lot of development costs to recover, going F2P helps keep the revenue coming in and the bean counters and shareholders may not take the same view as those in the lower ranks in the corporate hierarchy: remember, ZOS is a subsidiary, there are more powerful people above anyone in ZOS.

I`m just gonna take the time say i completly agree with the OP.

There are only two F2P games that i can think of that are not Pay to win and i will not name them because i`m not here to advertise other games and they`re not even MMO`s.

Every other F2P games i played may not have started that way but they did become pay to win and even worse, they were advertised as F2P yet they were not really free to play, they were free to try or free to install on your computer or free to browse the in game store rather, but thats it . The only way you could get any sense of actually playing the game was to spend money for this and that and there was no end to the amount of things you needed to unlock by paying in order to actually PLAY the game .

Those games will usually end up costing you more money at the end of the month than a game with a sub fee like ESO or EvE Online or (censored).

You won`t feel it untill you actually see your credit card report at the end of the month and realise you`ve just spent 200$ in that last month and you can still do less with the game than if you just decided to go premium and pay 15$ a month ??

So yeah , enough has been said as far as i`m concerned . The day this game goes F2P is the day i uninstall .

Now someone posted claiming that ZoS said they would shut servers down before going F2P.

    I hope he`s right.

Be who you want to be , do what you want to do, play the way you want to play.

The Prophet once said :``There is no perfect choice , there are only other choices. ``

Same goes for your build. There is no perfect build, there are only other builds.

My name is Draxuul and i approve this message .

People don't like F2P mmo for few thing
    1. You ending up at the end spend more money in there cash shops.
    2. Almost all F2P turn in to P2W it may not be in way of better gear or weapon but the are those F2P mmo the make you pay extra to use content even tho it is free content if have subscriber which is wrong for that content are in stander game pack from start.
    3. Pay real money to get bigger bag space, normal exp rating in both PvE and PvP is just wrong in my book
    4. Getting limited reward from quest is just stupid way to force people to start subscriber

This just few thing list can go on at 1st look it may not look like P2W but it is and good example on this SWTOR for if you choose play F2P in that game this just few thing you have to face.

For F2P version of mmo game is just way for company to get fast money from random people that it is

    This really.

I've witnessed this in Lotro Swtor and Rift, it's a plain dash for easy cash for company by a cost of quality of game, opening gates for whole crowd of free-riders (read angry kids) and loosing loyal player base.
Hopefully ZOS is better than that and will stick to their word and to us - their loyal players who gave them the credit and time to polish this game as it's got true potential to shine on MMO market.

Regarding ZoS saying they would close the servers before going F2P, it really can't be depended on.

I could see them going with, say, a hybrid model (like Lotro) and using weasel language to say, "Oh, well--sure we said we'd never go F2P, but this... this is different! It's Hybrid!" Or some other BS like that. So, as much as I appreciate them SAYING they'll never go F2P, I also understand that it's in their best interest under the current model to say it over and over and over and over and over... until and if that model changes.

They'd lose me and my wife though the very day they put any F2P element in OTHER than a free 10 level demo or something limited along those lines to allow people to try before buying.

Completely agree with threads author. And 1 more thing I want to add - no advertising when you have subscription. I dont think you'd like to watch and advert every time you get a loading screen or to have a huge Intel or Nvidia poster in the middle of in-game city.

Right, because everything ZOS stated about the game they have followed through with? When they see how much money is in the FTP model and subs drop due to developer incompetence, this will go FTP. Tera Online - FTP and I have spent more money on costumes per month then for the actual sub when it was PTP. I'm throwing money at the screen but nothing is happening here...

WIth an upcoming console launch that has potential to tap a VERY large market, talking about this game going f2p is laughable at this time.

Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.
Werewolf is not equal to Vamps/Bats.

With the amount of crafting materials in this game i would truly fear a ftp scenario. Maybe i am was off base, but one of the first things i would expect is a drastic drop in any self found blue or above crafting materials, and new random crafting boxes sold online with improved chances and finding blue and above materials. Random recipe boxes. Random herb boxes. A random motif box. The crafting system in this game is almost designed perfectly to be exploited buy a ftp system, imagine a scenario when the fastest way to farm Dragonthorn is to buy random herb boxes.

Even if none of that happened i would almost certainly expect the. Exsistance of legendary upgrade material to disappear from the world and show up on the store. In a random chance box ofcourse.

But don't worry it wouldn't be pay to win! You could still find all those items in game... You just never would....

Agree with this 100% and I'm pretty sure ZOS said they would rather shut the game down completely then go F2P and honestly I would respect them so much more if they did. If it ever got that "bad", just cut your losses and shut the servers down. If this game went F2P, I would be so turned off by that decision that I would stop buying even the single player Elder Scrolls games because of the icky F2P feeling..."Elder Scrolls VI? Now still cant get the flashy BUY ME NOW! buttons out of my mind..."

Nobody wants this game to go F2P. Everybody thinks it will, but no one in his right mind can want this for a game. (Unless you're 15 and you just want your toxic friends to also be able to play the game).

    RIFT, SWTOR, Shadowbane.

Did you mean to describe games that when down the snipter and became Pay2win sucky games?
