[Addon Adoptions] Charge Squire

Hi all, I am starting off a new series of polls about convincing ZOS to start adopting addon functionality into the game. Some of those addons out there are so fantastic in terms of functionality, design and stability, that I think their functionality should be integrated into the game. Thank's to all you addon developers, I am saluting you!

I realize that some addons offer quite specific functionality that is not for everyone, but others offer much needed and quite trivial UI enhancements. I also realize that most of these features were deliberately left out by the game developers, while others might just have been overlooked.

I am not intending to kill the addon community with this effort. But addon development takes effort, and while it is fun to first develop an addon it can become arduous having to update it with every new version of the game.

So without much further ado, I am starting off the first poll with a wonderfully simple addon called ChargeSquire. All it does is to open up the charge dialog again after you have charged your weapon. It's tiny and it's simple, but it is superbly useful, because in 9 out of 10 times you don't charge your weapon once, but at least twice. At least if you are using up old and cheap gemstones for the weapons. Sadly it is out of date, but so far it still works. Here is the link: http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info450-ChargeSquire-WeaponChargingUtility.html

If you believe this addon's functionality should be added to the game vote yes!

I would love to see these functions added to game BUT... I think it is important to keep addons as alternate source for minor fixes and functionality, when modders do special functions or cosmetic fixes the developers might have bit more time to fix bugs and add something else that addon can not add.

In fact i would love if they would open all the cosmetic stuff like animations and textures, lightning, weather, music and other similar stuff to real modding so that we cou8ld perphaps get some of those lovely alterations and better quality textures, better LOD, better walking animation, both weapon sets visible etc. Single player TES games were amazing in the way how modders could improve them from the default game and i think there is potentional for that in ESO too.

I am not asking to kill the addon community. On the contrary! I am asking to include the best addons into the game so that modders have time to work on something new and be creative, rather than to have to maintain their creations.

I like everything as is, if it really bothers people then go play a game with a ui you like or continue to use the addon.

This UI seems fine enough to me. Rarely do I use a smaller than needed soul gem to recharge.

I use 4 addons (MiniMap, Inventory Insight on Mules only, FTC with most options turned off, Craft Store, on my crafters only)

I am sure my addons are different than most people's. So, the question becomes, which addons to they pick? And, why do I have to use addons that someone else picked out for me?

Nothing in my addons can't be done in some other way with the stock UI, or with pen and paper. Quite frankly, the stock UI is enough to play the game as I just started using addons a short time ago.

Here is the only thing I want from ZOS regarding Add-Ons, stop breaking the existing ones on major updates. It's not like the API needs to change on every update.

Of course I say that knowing we have a 9th Trait coming, and that will require Craft Store to be revamped because of it. But, that is change that makes sense to cause an addon to go dark.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Charging UI seems fine to me, this is an add-on that should stay an add-on, imo.

I keep my gems up to date with my current tier so I think this is largely useless, how long are you really going to have spare low tier soul gems you need to use.

Another fantastic poll where only 1 choice is required to state why.

But I will play along, even if it is outright communistic way: Vote whatever you like as long as you vote what I think is correct. Not my taste....
    • Playing the game without a single addon works outstanding.
    • Proof: I play tons. From launch etc, and I have less problems then most, but can do things just like everyone else.
    • The UI is delivered and REQUIRED when you buy the game. By forcing any addon on anyone is breaking the contract for who bought the game.
    • ESO allows addons. Use them if you wish. The end.

Alright, maybe I haven't made myself clear. This poll is not about adding the addon itself to the game and shipping it with the game, but to include the addon's functionality into the standard UI, so that there will be no need for the addon any more.

    Never ever going to happen.

    Why?

    Money!

Add on creators don't get paid by companies. The Second their add on is used by a company as content... Boom... They are employees and need to be compensated. Some really good mods for games have been picked up by companies and used, but usually without compensating the creator and causing huge mega epic butthurttedness™. ( my new word of the day)

I don't use add-ons, nothing against them but I prefer to focus my ESO time on game-play rather than doing research. Maybe one day I might decide I really need something, like going to find all the books or something.

For this specific add-on, I rarely have an overstock of under level gems anyway and tbh I would find it annoying having a window I just closed reopen when I do not need it.

I am not suggesting ZOS buy the code from the modders. I am saying they should write new code that recreates the functionality of the addon.

I also think it's a good idea to compensate addon developers. ZOS could award a free lifetime subscription to modders if their addon's functionality has been integrated into the game.

The beauty of addons is that they're optional.

The only thing I'd ask of ZOS re: addons is opening up the API more and allowing more options.

I can't vote either way. I think making the window manually closable instead of having it automatically close would do the job. I like the whole addon poll series btw. Here is one that's relevant to yours. It adds a small icon on screen when your weapon charges are running low. You can click the icon to bring up the charge window too.
