I decided to take part in the alliance war after months of wimping out and I have to say I really like it! I played in the Thornblade server (EP) over the weekend and couldn't stop playing. Gotta admit I haven't seen games like this where large armies battle over keeps with siege engines and the graphics of ESO just make it look so real and epic. There were some really interesting fights with the enemy factions. My favourite ones (because of my selective memory) was when we took a couple of keeps in which the battles lasted an hour each - basically involved large swarms of players fighting it out while siege engines pound the terrain. Eventually your faction breaks through the inner wall and then you have to get past the next line of defence - the oil pots in the postern. If enough people die then the enemy rushes out and you have to hold the line outside the keep again. It's really strategic and amazing to watch. I, of course more often than not, rushed in like the noob i am got cc'd and bludgeoned to death, or stood next to an oil pot, or in the proximity of a standard doh. Then it's porting back to the FC for another beating.
Probably can't finish the post without a comment about the lag. It's actually a serious problem in the big battles. Main problem is weapon swap doesn't work which is a pain as immovable was on my defensive bar, so if I wanted immovable I couldn't really attack anyone. Also experienced some bugs like the keep door not opening and random crashes throughout.
Anyway all up it was great fun. Definitely looking forward to more Cyrodil and learning how to play the game properly.
