Player Homes (Suggestion)

While all this running around is all fine and dandy, I recently encountered an Argonian village (I'm an Argonian fanatic), and looked closer at some of the pottery and fell in love with the designs. Then I got the idea of "What if we could have personal player homes that we could decorate and build further which we could also have little parties or get-togethers in?" It could work like it did in Skyrim with Hearthfire, and we would get to it by going to certain areas and using a specific item. It would access it as another part of the map like when you enter buildings. That or do it like Runescape did and have portals located in towns and other safe areas that you can enter to go into your house. Imo player housing would be pretty awesome.

Of course we'd have to buy our houses and the stuff to decorate/upgrade them, so their is a financial (in-game money) part of this.

Edit: They can be designed with any race in mind. For example:
Argonian: Mud Hut
Nord: Stone House
High Elf: Gilded House
Daedric: Daedric Fortress (A small one)
Dunmer: Wood House

I don't know much about the different house structures of the races, but I do know the Nordic, Daedric and Argonian. The rest were just guesses.

Honestly i would like player housing but this is a touchy one. IMO it needs to be implemented well. honestly i would love to see player towns, but then again this can ruin the aesthetics of the game. Though id love it. Id love nothing more than to see free form towns like say SWG, but then id love some of the options of say Horizons, if people even remember that game, but at the same time i would love to see freedom like in the new EQNEXT or even rift.

The problem is though the game world is gorgeous and id kind of like to see it stay that way. so its tough. Fact is i dont want to be running around in a dominion territory and see argonian breton dwemer and who knows what else in the middle of a dominion area same with a covenant and well who cares about the pact :pensive: . on the flip i dont want to see the world butchered for land plots, much like how horizons was. I also dont mind the instances of say eq2 but that just seems so limited, and i would love to see a hearth fire type system with free form placement of objects inside the houses much like say rift or eq2. On the flip side id hate for a housing system much like DAoC where they had free building in small towns but after the newness wore off became vacant ghost towns because no one wanted to tour the different towns in an instance to see the decor.

on the one hand though i kinda would love the ability to see community building like in horizons. you know you have say an instanced town area on a map that the community could rebuild and maintain. maybe it gets attacked and players need to defend it or it gets destroyed and needs be rebuilt. There is just so many ways to do housing that it can either make or break the feel of the game.

the free form of SWG worked for SWG because the worlds were for the most part vacant ESO each zone is littered with towns here and there so free form would not work. the instancing of say EQ2 would work, but would limit the showiness of the housing. then you could say well what about the dimensions of rift, well again like rift style but again no reason to really visit, DAoC well that got kinda dull. Horizons had a great idea, but they kinda ruined it by chopping the landscape into player plots that once the game lost favor made the world feel barren. Though i did love that the towns were a town, with different town features that needed to be rebuilt by the players. With the focus of ESO being community i would love to see something that really brings the community into the housing. thats one reason rifts system wouldnt work.

so its something i want zenny to take their time with. i would love to see whole crafting professions modeled around just this honestly. a lot like how horizons approached it, or heathfire for that matter. where you need to build your property and not just plop down a prefab, but at the same time make it so that its community based, but there needs be incentive as well. like one thing that might be kind of fun would be to create a town based instance modelling certain areas. that players get to build up, and at random times can be attacked causing players to either defend their homes or have to repair them, this would be in lieu of another gold sink. actually i kinda like that. instead of a rent system like every other game out there, make a damage system. where your town was attacked no one defended now you have to fully repair your house again before you can re-enter it. after so many attacks where your house is "destroyed" if you failed to repair it, and all your treasures inside get thrown in say a moving box type thing and mailed to you, and you lose your plot of land for someone else to build on. However, if you have an active town and you defend it when its attacked, could be a little pop up message alerting you of an impending attack, your buildings take no damage and your good. its different and would make the housing system fun. especially if you have a community aspect where you can hire guards to defend the town work together to build and upgrade walls.

the upgrade things gives another idea. say on every few days theres an attack on your town, and each time you successfully twart the attack, or every couple times depending on level, your town upgrades a level, meaning you can build bigger and better defenses, but at the same time the attacks get harder. They could do a lot, but again i would like to see something community driven that has purpose and is not just a place to store unwanted junk.

Um... My idea was to have it be in an area outside the original map. You teleport to it and you have to invite others to come in or get a group and have them teleport in. It won't be a part of the Tamriel map.

That actually would work, but how would we access the separate ones? Maybe it's in one location, but where you end up is client side, or a sort of solo dungeon? Idk.

Upon inspection of the world map, what if we made it part of a different realm, like Coldharbour is? You zoom all the way out, and Coldharbour is on the left. We could put our player home realm on the right, and the location you would go to would be account-bound. The name would be <insert name here>'s home. That way you could also have a yard to mess around in and even a makeshift pool (which is actually a small lake). Argonians would get more water, though, since they are more accustomed to it.

I stopped reading when you suggested the dunmer should have wood houses and not telvanni mushrooms.

Fortunately that was at the end so I did actually read the post, but I am still most offended. ,

I don't think you understand the placement of coldharbour. It's not actually to the left of Tamriel, it is an entirely different plane of existence. It is placed there for convenient viewing, but it is a daedric plane of Oblivion, and has no actual geographical location in relation to tamriel.

I want houses, honestly, but I'd do some more research before proposing ideas. Know the lore and what not.

Plus, I had two houses in EQ and some loaned houses in UO: renaissance, as well as several houses in a MUD I played.

I never had a party at any of them ever. It was far more boring to isolate the party off like that, rather than make it in public, like in a tavern etc, and be available to those passing through. In the MUD I played, the brothel bar was a really good place for it, they had nice booze there, and there were services available if anyone wanted them. (Also, when I became an admin I added a stripper, because I was only allowed to close it down to fix the bugged programs if I added something. I used a strip tease Dita Von Tease does, but I had to have a friend write it, because it's really hard to write something like that and not have it sound corny as all hell.)

Um... I meant to the left on the map... Not actual geographic location... I know it's a Daedric plane. That was the idea for the house is to have it in a different realm.

How do you mean? Like a room in the different Guild Halls across Tamriel? I'd be ok with that, but I don't know how it would work. If it puts you in a different house every time, I wouldn't be greatly ok with that unless it's in Shadowfen. If it was the same house every time, that would seem like a pain to code, although I know nothing about coding so I wouldn't be able to comprehend the difficulty.

Why would they even be on a separate daedric plane? that seems kind of over the top. I mean, you could just instance the neighborhoods and have them in various towns across each faction.

I just feel that Tamriel looks good as it is, and trying to accommodate a neighborhood for thousands of players would be a bit spacious. So it's a bit of a problem putting them in Tamriel unless you separate them into different planes, which lowers the size of map you have to include in one area.

you don't have to do that, it's an extra step.

EQ had one location to enter its housing. They had multiple neighborhoods, each one being an instance. A guild could also purchase a neighborhood or two or three for themselves. You could actually port from neighborhood to neighborhood (the layout for each was identical) and could port directly to a particular house rather than run, since the place was kind of big and hilly.

I'm not saying it should be an exact mimic, but put a neighborhood in all the important towns, with the possibility of guilds buying their own instances of those neighborhoods, and it doesn't clutter up a thing.

So with this idea, would we be able to travel between each instance willingly to get to our own house or just cross our fingers and hope we get the right instance?
