I stopped playing a month after release due to work issues. Recently came back and really enjoying the game and the upcoming changes look great as well. However, All my friends and entire guild seem to have quit. Has this game suffered a massive drop in players?

A lot of people left, a lot of people came in. No one can say definitively what the population is like atm, but I'd hazard a guess as to it being lower.

    Yes and no.
Alot of people quit when there where a few lag issues in Cyrodiil.
And some have had their own issues too.
we did get a boost from the Steam sale, but ESO won't release actual figures. Also, the phasing makes it appear less populated, so its not ridiculously over populated in towns.
Also, some people can be very anti social, avoiding the zone chats
Fun comes from diversity, balance kills diversity.

Cyrodiil has a decent amount of action.

The game zones are pretty sparsely populated in veteran level, but that's fine, as open world pve is designed as a solo experience.

You might have to wait a long time for dungeon groups though...

I'm still here. It seems numbers have somewhat stabilized. I'm in 3 larger guilds and all have about 10% of people online at any given time with about 50% who have been active within the last week.

My guild started with over 100 people and to this day, we still have over 100 people. Some have left, some have come back and we keep adding new people to replace those who left.

    To answer your question... no.

Even if only one player was left, the answer would still be... no, everyone has not left.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.
Is the glass half full or half empty?

I started a new alt about a week ago and I just hit lvl 40 today, I've been amazed at how many people are in game at the moment.
After playing in vet zones for the last 3 months I got used to not seeing many people but in 1-50 zones it feels packed, multiple other players on every quest, WB, Dolmen, and delve. To be honest, at times it feels a little over crowded.
I'm on the EU server so I don't know how this compares to NA.

There was a distinct population drop after the initial play time expired. And after Craglorn appeared, vet zones were virtual ghost towns until Craglorn loot and experience were nerfed hard. But I've noticed a big upswing in population over the last month. You can get a pretty good idea how busy it is by visiting banks.

People started going back to the VR zone after the nerf hammer hit those zones. The only thing that got nerfed in Craglorn were the anomalies.

Yes. But it is an Mmo. Everyone always leaves after the first month. Ok that isn't exactly true, but there will never be a time in the life of an mmo that feels as 'full' as the first month or two after launch. Except maybe an expansion.

But expecting a game to look like it did a month after launch is silly.

Guilds come and go. Mostly it is due to failings with the guild than the game in my experience. Find a new guild. People spam zone chat all day looking for new guild members. Just jump in some new guilds.

I left for a month, because I lost interest in veteran leveling.

Im leaving again because being forced to use Magicka/Staff builds is not fun and v10+ is all group content, I Dont want to find groups for 100% of my quests, heck i managed to get to v10 with only doing like 2 dungeons and 3 public dungeons.

I don't hate Multiplayer content, I just dont do it until it is particularly productive, like working towards a BiS gear set. Also with group forced leveling, you essentially cant play with anyone who isent at your level either, so its just.. dumb.

Craglorn is a bit desolated, occupied mainly by grinding groups, but other areas are fine, i guess people got tired of the unproductive vet content and started leveling alts

There was a rather typical MMO drop once the free month expired. My guild got rather empty but then new people joined and picked up the slack, now my guild is actually busier than before. The areas all seem healthy in terms of population to me, there is always someone around willing to team up with me.

OMG! Drama queens much? How many threads are at the top of the forum list claiming the population is dead? Merging NA & EU? Come on people! get a grip or get out. I'm still playing multiple toons from my VR12 Sorcerer on NA to my level 5 nightblade on EU. GMing guilds on both servers and I gotta tell you, Every guild I'm in has a healthy active population.

It's also in my view due to a failing in the trading system, which is the only reason a lot of players join guilds but which really isn't working effectively. The ability, some would argue requirement, to join multiple guilds also means that there is not the same sense of guild loyalty and "belonging" that guild membership traditionally brings - and which a guild depends upon - in MMOs.

I stopped playing after they nerffed the difficulty in vet. They did it because they thought it was too hard for the whiney rp'ers who wanted to play in first person and wear armour that made them look cool and use abilities based on how good the animation looked. At the time I argued that it wasn't the difficulty but the fact that it was a boring grind that was the issue. They did it anyway and judging from this thread it made no difference, apart from driving those of us who actually want a challenge away. Vet is still empty and the game in now ruled by role players. Its no longer a game its a medieval version of second life. It had such potential but every decision ZoS has made regarding the direction has been a mistake for me.

I think this is a big issue, in most MMO's you find a guild that you feel comfortable with and they become your friends through the game. You party up for dungeons, raids, higher level content. With the multi guild system I don't think that same sense of belonging is forming with guilds and this is also not enticing people (solo players predominately) to even try some of the group content.
